Schinderhannes Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 On our trip back from southern Mexico we got stranded with a bad mag in Puerto Penasco (MMPE) last Sunday. Luckily the extremely helpful staff at the airport arranged a ride back to Yuma on short notice where we rented a car to drive back to Palm Springs. We got an overhauled mag and harness (just to be safe) yesterday and need to go back to fix and pick up the airplane. The driving takes 6-7 hours, flying would be around 1/4 this time (212NM). I was wondering if anybody would like to do a quick trip to MMPE on a short notice. We would pay for fuel and fees. If you haven't been south of the border this would be a great opportunity to get an introduction to flying to Mexico. On top of it you could earn credits for the Wings program. PM me if you are interested. Frank Quote
gsxrpilot Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 I'm in Austin, so a bit far to provide any assistance here. But we've booked accommodations in Puerto Penasco for Feb 12-14. It will be our first time flying out of the US in the Mooney. I might PM you for the 411 on MMPE. Thanks, Quote

Thanks, I recommend you join https://www.bushpilotsinternational.com/ Great resource to learn all the requirements before you go. Puerto Penasco is probably a good way to get your feet wet in Mexico. But coming so far from Austin, right at the peak of Whale season, you should consider checking out petting the California Grey Whales in Baja. Its a great use of your Mooney to base out of Mulege or Loreto and fly over to Laguna San Ignacio to go out and pet the whales that time of year. If you don't have time in Feb, put it on your list for a future trip. 1 Quote
Nemesis Posted January 1, 2016 Report Posted January 1, 2016 Frank, I would love to help you out and I am just around the corner from both Palm Springs and Puerto Penasco. The trouble is that I just pulled the AI and HSI out for overhaul. Give me 10 - 14 days or so to get them back and it could happen. Dave 2 Quote
