Top Heavy Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 The boost pump will not come on in my Mooney Bravo. I just had the switch that activates it automatically with full throttle worked on last week (located near right lower aft aspect of engine block). In any event when the rocker switch is activated, the Boost Pump annunciator light comes on but the pump itself does not. Similarly, when the throttle is advanced completely the Boost pump annunciator light comes on. I checked the boost pump breaker and it is OK. I would think that if the pump itself is stuck, it would pop the breaker. I checked all of the connections behind the rocker switch and they are secure. Any thoughts. Obviously cannot start the engine absent functioning Boost Pump. Stuck in North Dakota. Quote
carusoam Posted August 9, 2015 Report Posted August 9, 2015 Are you handy with the volt meter? Sounds like a loose wire between the switch and fuel pump. The O doesn't have an annunciator for the boost pump, or FP... I'm only a PP, not a mechanic. Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
ArtVandelay Posted August 9, 2015 Report Posted August 9, 2015 Electric motors use a lot of current on start up, so circuit breakers are oversized, a seized motor may not pull any more juice then it does a startup. Do you have an ammeter? Does it show current draw when you turn it on? If not, You need to get out the voltmeter . Quote

Top Heavy Posted August 9, 2015 Author Report Posted August 9, 2015 Does anyone know exactly where the electrical pump is and how to get to it? The mechanic here in ND I is not well versed in Mooneyspace andcannot find it! Th maintenance manual says just "aft of the firewall". Quote

carusoam Posted August 9, 2015 Report Posted August 9, 2015 From old memory.... The O has it behind a small cover aft of the engine on the co pilot side. It is pretty easy to find the pump drain without removing anything first. The drain is not usually used unless the pump's seals start to leak. Of course, the M is different than the O... Top Heavy Posted August 9, 2015 Author Report Posted August 9, 2015 Found it! Beneath floorboard copilot's side. Got at it through access plate on underside of fuselage. Took it apart. Pump burned out. It was original part '92, so I guess it served its purpose . Have to order rebuilt when shops open Monday A.M. Stuck in North Dakota until then. 1 Quote
