1964-M20E Posted July 10, 2015 Report Posted July 10, 2015 Very interesting ariticle in AOPA weekly E-magazine. I knew the military used many small planes similar to the J-3 but this article shed some interesting light on their uses. Even taking off and landing on an LST without the wheels ever touching the deck. http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All-News/2015/July/Pilot/f_l3?WT.mc_id=&wtmcid;&WT.mc_sect=tts 1 Quote
Jeff_S Posted July 10, 2015 Report Posted July 10, 2015 I read that article and looked up the Brodie Landing System as well. Excellent example of necessity being the mother of invention. Quote
Browncbr1 Posted July 10, 2015 Report Posted July 10, 2015 Interesting! interesting waste of resources! haha Quote
bonal Posted July 10, 2015 Report Posted July 10, 2015 At the time they were looking for anything that could give out troops an advantage and aviation was so important in its role as forward recon. some ideas were better than others but I always love how they would try just about anything back then. fun to watch the movie. Piloto Posted July 11, 2015 Report Posted July 11, 2015 Can't imagine this contraption working on choppy seas. You would be better off just dragging an observer on a parachute. José Quote
1964-M20E Posted July 12, 2015 Author Report Posted July 12, 2015 I just remembered that they were also doing a similar thing with airships in the 20s or 30s. However, your starting altitude was much higher. Quote
