Marauder Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 Now, if only Aspen would truly delv into open architecture...wanna display traffic on their box...no problem give them some $$$ for an unlock. Want to have the freeflight version of their ADS-B box displayed on the aspen? (freeflight makes theirs, I understand) no problem give them a couple thousand. Yes, it works as long as a pound of flesh is included, above and beyond the Aspen's cost. Mike -- that is exactly how it is working with the FreeFlight/Aspen versions of the ADS-B solutions. If you want to use a FreeFlight box on the Aspen, you can. You need to pay $2k for the unlock code. Since the Aspen version doesn't do anything special over the FreeFlight version, personally it wouldn't make sense to do it. Now if the GDL-88 were structured that way, I may have to think about it... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Marauder Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 If BK really wants to sell these, they are going to have to sell it at a price point you can't refuse. Like less than a used garmin 530W. Or they need to add functionality that no one else has. Like say intigrating an ADS-B transponder, audio panel, storm scope, and/or radar without any external boxes. I think the latter is the Avidyne approach. There is stuff built into the 540 that isn't on the GTN series. But the gorilla has a pretty strong hold on the market and I don't know how well the value add is working for the Avidyne offering. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
flyntgr1 Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 At some point i'm going to have to add ADS-B. I don't have a WAAS source at the moment as i have a KLN-90B and narco nav/com hooked to a KCS-55 HSI. If King made an all in one unit with an integrated ADS-B transponder, i could replace the 90B, the narco, and the KT76. It would fit very nicely in that spot in the panel. Quote
