Danb Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 Guys many of us are in touch with Paul Kehner Tech. Support, that is a good thing. My last correspondence has not changed much but I will provide his response yesterday "You are not alone, engineering still has a tentative plan in the to begin the WAAS/ADSB project in the 1st. quarter of 2015. Bottom line is to tell everyone to call or e-mail anytime for an update and he will provide the current status. Fortunately ,the mandate is 2020 and he stated that Garmin ADSB will be a simple transponder upgrade, to the extended squitter. Also stated that's the simple part they need to get the equipment into a test aircraft then develop a flight test for FAA certification " So lets keep up the good work and pressure in an effort to attain an affordable solution.. Piloto Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 The WAAS update is not only for ADSB out but also for vertical guidance on GPS LPV approaches. Does that means G1000 owners have to wait until 2020 to get LPV capability? José Quote
Robert C. Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 Dan, thanks for the update. Do you have an email address for Paul or call their switchboard? R. Quote
Danb Posted January 19, 2015 Author Report Posted January 19, 2015 Jose who knows, based on my talks with Paul they appear to want to address both issues, but I believe the Adsb issue will be an easy fix..but....them having to get an aircraft with the s-tec in it and put in the WAAS boxes and antennas then show FAA it works to get recertification may be pricy ( hey they can use my plane if they don't find one to use) but considerably less than the ridiculous amount of changing everything including putting in the GFC 700..that's a deal breaker..hopefully they will do it with the stec..Diamond,caessna and beech have similar issues...this actually is. Mooney problem not Garmin. I have no clue how it will play out but I feel a lot of $$$ being thrown away due to there lack of insight during the original certification process. A Garmin engineer friend of mine told me it's really not real challenge just Mooney need to get off there wallet and do it...hey a class action is not out of the question if we could get enough on board.. Robert C. Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 I emailed Paul and got a very nice reply from both Paul and Frank Crawford. Here is Paul's response to my inquiry, encouragement and request to be kept abreast of developments: Robert, Mooney does have a certification project planned however a start date has not been established as of this writing. I receive several calls and emails during the week asking this question but there is no list to get on. Once Mooney has this upgrade certified, any Garmin dealer will be able to upgrade your aircraft. I have been encouraging owners to contact Mooney on a quarterly basis for an update. Piloto Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 When there is no starting date for a project there is no commitment for its completion date. This project is in Limbo. José Quote
Jeff_S Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 José, you obviously missed Stacey Ellis' other post on this same topic, which lays out the schedule. But seriously, I don't understand why you take such a pessimistic view of this. Do you even have a dog in this hunt? Quote
