bird strike repairs

I have been quoted £6,500 ($9k) to repair this bird strike.   any ideas on a cheaper way of doing it? apparanently its the amount of time to remove the horizontal stab and then de skin / reskin.  the dent is not big, looks like someone punched it, but the skin is torn.  thanks.

Wing skin (2 pieces) cost me about 400 quid ($700).  The actual repair took two guys (with good knowledge) two days to remove the airleron, drill out the 50 or so rivets on the wing, put on the new bits, rivet them into place, and paint it.  I helped with the painting part, the re-installation of the lights and the re-installation of the aileron.  It was the two guys that cost me the real money ($75 per man-hour for 20 man-hours = $1,500).  Therefore, this repair cost me $2,200 (Cdn) or about 1,400 Pounds. 

Either the shop rate is different, or they will take more than two days to do this, or their materials are vastly more expensive, or they may not really be comfortable with doing this type of repair, or they saw you coming.

From what I can see in the picture the dent does not look that deep and I do not see cracks on the metal. Cheapest way to repair this would be to fill up the dent with a suitable material, sand it off to shape and paint it. Sometimes major disassembly and skin removal involves some damage risk that may not be worth it. During factory production new airframes incurr on minor dent damages that are just filled up instead of major disassembly.

Hard to see location from your pictures. When I had my last plane painted I had a landing light put in one wing. Installation of wing mounted lights is a great improvement.

Dang, I wonder what you could buy a salvage stab for and have it shipped to you?

i am thinking of getting it repainted anyway - maybe a whole new one would work out cheaper. 60% of the quote was actually getting it off in the first place so maybe it wouldn't make that much difference!
