I was dealing to the manufacturer of the gauges. I originally took in one from my plane and told them I wanted "one of these". They looked back in their inventory and gave me one at no cost "as they only cost $5 or so". That is when I got a bunch of Mooney owners who wanted them and went back with an order for several. They then took the position that the gauge was proprietary to Mooney and refused to sell them.

Like I said, have someone else go back to them now and tell them that a bunch of guys would love to get some for their dune buggy fuel tanks. They'll probably sell you a whole box for $75. Of course they won't be PMA, TSO, etc, with a paper trail.

Therein lies the problem. If you tell them their part number, it pops up the Mooney flag.

I have not been able to find where they admit to making them otherwise. Granted, I have not seen a paper catalog from Rochester, and their on-line one did not seem to contain any gauge like them.

Pardon for going off thread.

That's OK. There's not much more to be said about some guys that ran out of gas and fell in the water anyhow. ;)

Wait a minute!! Isn't the whole point of flying a twin so that you never have to ditch??!! Almost has to be fuel exhaustion.

You know what they say... If the first engine fails, the second engine can carry you all the way to the crash site

This is often true, but in the case of being over the ocean, there isn't a certified twin made that shouldn't be able to get you to safety unless they were way over gross. I guess that is a possibility too. If so, all that extra crap is at the bottom of the ocean, so we'll never know.

Maybe they were Brothers To The Rescue who got lost along the way.

That was my first thought as well. Brothers to the Rescue is a worthy group in a great cause and they use Skymasters. Their approach is very professional so it will be interesting to find out "the rest of the story" on this one. Or it could be some guys out screwing around in an old clapped out C337 and simply ran the thing out of gas.
