moodychief Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Flying to Savannah on Sunday for a conference. Any suggestions on "gotta do" items in Savannah? Quote
Raygun15E Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 I lived in the area for a few years when the AF decided I needed to not fly for a few years. Check out the Mighty Eighth AF Museum south of town. mightyeighth.org/ River street has multiple bars and restaurants for eating and drinking. The beach on Tybee is nice, but it's approx 40min away. Check out the squares. Similar to traffic circles, but basically a small city block that's a park. If you like pizza, Vinnie Van GoGos is popular with tourists and locals alike. That's all I can think of right now. Plenty to see in Savannah and great food to go with it! Quote
John Pleisse Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 River street is awesome, rental car 45 mins to Hilton Head is nice (if you golf or eat)...you can still swim in the ocean this time of year if it is warm. The must do is a visit to Gulfstream. It really is an amazing facility. You'll see it the second you land. Quote
rbridges Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Savannah is an old city. Near River Street is the historic areas. lots of old buildings and cemeteries if you like that kind of stuff. Quote
Hank Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 River Street. Happy hour. Ship shots. Don't have too many . . . Savannah is a cool place, lots to see. Walk the historic area, some of the squares are amazing! Quote

Even found a pearl in my fired oysters once. Huey's is a good place to eat as well. Try the local and regional beers and speaking of that going east on West Bay Street there is a micro brewery good beers food is decent. There is also the pirate house way at the end of West Bay street neat place to eat. Mon, Tue, Wed usually pretty dead on River Street after 7pm. Enjoy your trip last year I was going there once a month I'd fly into Ft Stewart (LHW) GA friendly no tie down fee cheaper gas than SAV and if you set it up with Hertz tomorrow they will have a car there for you on Sunday. Folks there are happy to see you. I've also flown into SAV a couple of times FBO is nice too. Quote
1964-M20E Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 There is also a maritime museum downtown as well not far from West Bay street. Quote
