KSMooniac Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 Brett, I'll reach out to him tomorrow and see if he minds talking Barons with you...I'm sure he will be happy to help. I don't get to fly on the company planes, unfortunately! I'm a stress engineer instead of flight test. I like pretty much all aircraft engineering disciplines, but stress pays the best and thus allows me to have a Mooney...and I'm happy with that! I still dream, though, walking into work through the flight test hangar and past the new production planes... Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 1 Quote
jetdriven Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 B55 Barons with 470 engines are 24-26 GPH airplanes and 175-180 knots. They are great airplanes but you are still in the 300-400$/hr range all in. Quote

B or E model. Most folks over at BT are claiming 175KTAS LOP at around 22gph and some even pull the big levers back further than that to yield 160KTAS at around 18gph. Pretty versatile operating range. Still though that is just splitting hairs in the big picture of owning and operating one of these things. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iy2KoXmcjYA Quote
KSMooniac Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 Brett, my buddy just sent you an email so feel free to pick his brain as needed! Quote
Seth Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 Hey Seth, Thanks for the input. If I wanted to move it quickly I would either install an old 430 or just fire sale the airplane. My plane is paid for and is now to a point that it doesn't need anything else maintenance wise so the cost to keep it around is minimal. I think the perfect scenario for me is to partner with somebody on a light twin (Beech 55 is what I've been looking at) and that way I could have the best of both worlds. Just taking my time and exploring different options to get the job done and also have something that I can play with. I couldn't agree more. If it sells it sells, otherwise, a piece of another airplane and your paid off Mooney that no one ever touches (that's my idea for the future). -Seth Quote
bnicolette Posted November 13, 2013 Author Report Posted November 13, 2013 Brett, my buddy just sent you an email so feel free to pick his brain as needed! Thank you Scott! I did see that he sent me an email. I'm in school all week (recurrent on the Falcon 900) but will get in touch with him soon. In the mean time I will write back to him. Thanks again for the contact for some more real world unbiased intel. Doesn't get any better than that. Quote
PrincetonMooney Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 Are you still looking for a J model with TKS? I have such an animal that I am willing to sell. Glenn Quote
bnicolette Posted June 19, 2014 Author Report Posted June 19, 2014 Hi Glenn. Thanks for the thought but I've jumped in with both feet to a Beech Baron back in February. Good luck with the sale of your machine. Quote
