  4. From AIN: FAA Cautions on Commercial-off-the-shelf Checklists The U.S. FAA is warning pilots of the potential risks of using either commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) or personally developed checklists. The agency recently issued a Safety Alert for Operators (SAFO 17006), noting COTS or personal checklists might not contain all the pertinent information included in the manufacturer’s pilot operating handbook (POH) or airplane flight manual (AFM). This warning stems from an accident in which a pilot was unable to fully lower the aircraft’s landing gear. The pilot referred to a COTS checklist for the specific type of aircraft, but was only able to partially extend the landing gear. The gear collapsed on landing, and the aircraft was substantially damaged. An accident investigation revealed that the COTS checklist did not match the manufacturer’s checklist regarding landing gear failure and manual extension procedures, the FAA said. “The omission of steps within the COTS checklist significantly contributed to the pilot’s inability to fully extend the aircraft’s landing gear.” The list used by the pilot had also omitted a key caution statement regarding the landing gear, the agency added. The FAA is thus advising pilots using COTS or personally developed checklists to “meticulously compare them to the manufacturer’s checklist and placards contained in the POH/AFM to confirm they are consistent. This action will ensure the pilot has all pertinent manufacturer’s information during aircraft flight operations.”

  6. Found this site to be very interesting while I was looking (dreaming is more like it) for a combined electronic checklist and electronic Log book that is somewhat automated (like my old 396 - Aero) where the information such as date, location time etc was logged automatically! Kept track of night flights, landings, general flight times..... which were great for the #$%@ IRS and some currency info / confirmation! Would appreciate any input related to my search!! http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/Apps-review.aspx
  7. I would like to know if anyone has experience with an electronic check list? I am looking to clean up the cockpit and since I have both the IPad & a Tablet yoke mounted... yea I know... too much..stuff, but I do use them both and will most likely migrate to the IPad in the end. I also plan to mount / fix the IPad somehow to a location other than the Yoke in order to maximize the Xavion app use. So if anyone has any ideas or suggestions to mounting the IPad somehow in the center of a Mooney below the main panel, chime in with that as well. Looking for a app that I can customize and has emergency check list, night / day (bright / dim). Thanks in advance, Lacee
  8. Not having any luck finding a laminated quick checklist similar to the Checkmate laminated ones. Can anyone email be one that i can print and laminate?
