  1. Hey guys, Here I am flying my mooney m20C 1962 from 82TS to F82. (Abilene to Lubbock). I received my instrument rating in October last year, and this is the first time I've put it to good use in the Mooney. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivibvVrG_hY You will notice that it's not the camera that can't see outside, it's the clouds! Then the next day I was flying from KODO back to 82TS (Odessa to Abilene) and recorded some cloud surfing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZCcOAv3q5o Let me know what you think!
  2. I haven't registered or anything. If I showed up in a Mooney around 10:00am saturday would I be welcomed or would I meet pitchforks?
  3. Quote: GeorgePerry When I was in college working at a country western bar, we charged a $1 cover. Not much money, but it served as an effective way to keep the riff-raff out. I think somthing like that for "ALL" mooneyspace members would be a good idea. For those who have already donated, the cover charge is paid in full...But everyone else should be required to make this small membership contribution for access to the forum. 1 buck for access to the best Mooney knowledge repository in the world is the best deal in aviation.
  4. I had no spare key. Airplane is grandfather-in-law's airplane in another part of the state. Local mechanic had an entire key ring full of airplane keys. Needless to say one fit and I made 4 copies at the local wal-mart! Thanks for the great link!
  5. Oh God What Have I done!
  6. Can you elaborate or send me to a link about these 'twisted wings.' I guess I don't know anything about that reference. I'll do a quick search and see if that answers the question.
  7. Thanks everybody for their opinions! I guess ill think about passing. A friend of a friend was selling it, so I could get at least down to 42. However, I'd rather a capable airplane than a cheap one
  8. Hey guys, I've been flying an m20c out here in Abilene tx for my last 200 hours. (240 tt) as you can probably tell I fell in love with mooney early. Anyway, I'm starting to look to buy my own plane. I had never thought about the G, but a nice specimen has popped up on my radar. http://www.trade-a-plane.com/listing?id=1542880 Are there any reasons to avoid the G model? Was wondering if they were under powered, or if they were a C with a little more room.
  9. I'd be interested in a good one as well!
  10. I've heard out in West Texas the airport ATIS reports winds like that as "light and variable, gusts to 40."
  11. Okay so let me get this straight. Let me try to apply this to our 1962 M20C 1) Before takeoff do the standard runup. RPMS to whatever (15, 17, 20 whatever you prefer). Full rich mixture then lean until RPMs decrease then give it the ole right turn 3 times trick 2) Cruise. Look at EGTs. Lean mixture out until you find a PEAK or the engine runs rough again? Then do the XX LOP or ROP. Finding the peak is the scary part for me. Am I supposed to start over with full rich and then slowly find my PEAK or....? 3) Landing. I'm in West Texas so my airport elevation is 3k. We don't ever push the mixture in before landing. But, what about if I fly to Houston, do I push the mixture in full rich? Thanks everybody
  12. I did my mooney checkout in Abilene. Might be too far for you but the guy was good. PM me if you want details. Alternatively I think that Parker guy is a good option too....
  13. What flight bag do you have? Gosh!
  14. The other lesson is that I have scheduled my CFI for the week after New Years and we will be getting me back 'in shape.' I did ALL of my last 20/30 hours of instrument training in a c172 and I believe that has affected my performance slightly.
  15. I am glad somebody else has problems. Lately I haven't been flying my relatives M20C as much. I used to fly it every other weekend but recently he got his medical back so now it's more of 'his airplane,' again. It's an awesome thing!!! Only downside is I have been flying irregularly(once a month) and I have been flying more bonanzas lately. I went flying out here in West Texas down to Brownwood. The winds were gusting fierce, about 30 degrees off the runway gusting about 10-15 kts extra on top of the regular wind. I came in to land, I was too fast too high and couldn't get my power where I wanted it. I kept scaring myself on the flare because I am flaring too high. I keep pulling back on the nose and it throws my landing/pitch attitude all out of whack where the runway almost disappears out of sight from the nose. I end up landing with a thud because I am flaring higher than I should be. I have started to scare myself a little bit and it's frustrating. I used to have great pride that I could land mooney's but they have humbled me more and more recently. I enjoy landing the Bonanzas more lately, as I think they're easier especially in the crosswind conditions we have out here in West Texas. Anyway...... I think the lesson I've learned here is that I have let my final approach speeds get way too fast for the 1 passenger (2 total) and full fuel I am flying around lately.
  16. Carrol Aviation located on Elmdale airport. Great guys. Ask for Jim Carol or Robert Kibbe
  17. Well I fly a mooney out of elmdale in Abilene Texas. We might need to get a 'Big Country' get together going pretty soon?
  18. So are you in utah or Abilene, Texas?
  19. Quote: jetdriven Speaking of flying dogs, this (female) pooch (retriever mix) we just got does not have a name, and we are taking suggestions. Something aviation themed.
  20. Yes originally I wanted to do the written far in advance of the actual checkride. However, I studied up for the written quit a bit and then found myself lacking the extra cash to do the cfii/dual part. So I just kept studying and then finally took the written the weekend before the practical part. I think it paid off well since it was all fresh in my brain. However, I don't think I would do any worse on the checkride if I did it much further in advance...... Different strokes I guess.
  21. Quote: rob I took the written about a month ago, I guess. There were some questions that I didn't recognize from my preparation; mostly dealing with icing, the operation of boots, etc. I think the FAA has released some information about the subject matter. At a minimum, they are very clear about what knowledge you are expected to have. The written is not difficult, new questions or old.
  22. Have you changed your headset from Stereo to Mono mode?
  23. I'd love to see pictures of those LED lights!
