  1. Quote: lahso My honey and I flew to Dauphin Island (4R9) for a week of sticking our toes in the sand. Great Wx most of the week, and very quiet out on the west end.
  2. Quote: edneff Hi, new to Mooneyspace, found the site while researching aircraft purchase. I'm a former RV7 owner looking for an economical and fast airplane, and settled on the Mooney line of aircraft. I have some Mooney time from my CFI days decades ago and always liked the airplanes. I found a beautiful partnership arrangement (www.mooney27d.com) but it's a little too far for me. I would love something similar in the nw corner of the state-- Morristown or Lincoln Park for example. If you have a Mooney you would like to share, get in touch or pass the word along if you know someone. I'm at ATP and a low insurance risk, with lots of time in lots of different kinds of airplanes and gliders too, CFI, II, ME (expired.)
  3. I'm glad to see this thread. I was planning to purchase the MS FS, but I'll see what others have to say.
  4. Quote: jerry-N5911Q Re Speed: Roy LoPresti in an article about the development of the 201 said the inner gear doors were necessary to get 200 mph out of the 201 and that without them the plane lost enough speed that the sought-after "1 mph per hp" could not be met. I recall it was claimed to cost 3 or 4 mph total. Mooney would have liked to have left them off but at 200 mph they counted for enough to put up with the complexity. So, at 160 mph (actual "C" cruise speeds rather than full-throttle "J" speed) you might get 2 mph, right? Re Retraction Force: I have run the Johnson bar on a "C" outfitted with the inner gear doors, and the force increase was noticeable. The owner of that plane pulled the gear up at 75 mph because he could not get them up much beyond 90 mph, he said. Maybe they were rigged wrong. Re Cool Factor: They sure look nice.
  5. if you're talking about the second set of doors that cover the wheels themselves, my c model had them installed before I bought it. It looks nice, but the previous owner said it probably made very little performance difference. He also said it made it a little more difficult to retract the wheels since they catch a little more air.
  6. Moral of the story: "Complete" logs don't always tell all.
  7. Quote: HopePilot So I ended up getting Tri-Flow and it worked great! Just remember to contact your physician if things don't return to normal after three hours...
  8. Quote: flhelo This past weekend, I flew the Mooney from Florida up to Hopkinsville, Ky to visit my son and have an early Thanksgiving since I am working that day. Man, it was a very nice flight and I didn't have to worry about the TSA. I am glad that I have my Mooney now!!
  9. Quote: Capt_CrashN_Burn Ahem.. isn't that a bit of a personal question?? >:-D
  10. don't know what the reserve is, but that could make a nice addition for someone's mooney.
  11. Quote: Capt_CrashN_Burn I'm a member of a corvette website, and it's off topic section is its busiest part.
  12. Quote: Capt_CrashN_Burn Is there anyone else here who would want a board for random chatter and banter?? I'm really feeling the urge to tell some fart jokes. >:-D
  13. I've asked this question, too. I feel that a well maintained airframe could last a very long time. My only concern is reselling the aircraft. Althought 10K hours may not really be a problem, it may scare away potential buyers who aren't sure. My Tahoe has an engine timer in addition to an odometer. It's funny b/c I don't know anyone that asks how many hours are on a car, it's all about mileage.

  15. has anyone installed this recently? is it prett simple, and how much did it end up costing?
  16. if you change to the 200 hp motor and add the 201 cowl and windshield, you'd be 99% there, but it would cost you a whole lot less to simply buy the J model.
  17. you can debate forever about it. It's not like you go to the local car dealer and order it the way you want it. My best advice would be to know what your budget is, and find a good, clean plane that is spec'd out the way you like. You'll always have people argue both sides of any decision.
  18. Quote: DaV8or Actually, I'm thinking Cessna 310. I think he might have twin fever. Mooney should have produced their twin concept so we could keep some of these guys in the family!
  19. I think that's an awesome plane and a very fair price. You've literally breathed new life into a worn out looking plane. Personally, I think you'll have better luck posting it on other sites. Although I've only been on this forum for a little while, it seems that the majority of people already have their own plane, and it's a less busy website than something like barnstormers. I don't know how you came up with your vref, but the finance company that I used wouldn't count new paint and interior unless it was less than 12 months old. I don't know if that affects your #'s, but it's just an FYI. good luck. whoever gets it will have a great plane.
  20. how many people show up for these? I'd love to go to one.
  21. I hope to fly Sunday so I'll check if no one gives you an answer, but I know it's several inches of travel. Also, it's noticeable to me in flight when the cowl flaps are pulled closed.
  22. Quote: DaV8or It stands to reason that if there is a big improvement in the turbo Arrow over the NA version, then there should be a corresponding improvement in the turbo Mooney. The 231 should be faster still and I'm not sure any more money.
  23. I don't think the written test will be a big deal. If it's anything like the private pilot test, they use the same questions over and over. I've only done a few hours of ground school and a few hours of IR with my CFII, and the books make more sense once you start going through the maneuvers.
  24. Quote: DaV8or OK, OK! I'll do a 360! I usually get it by the third time.
  25. lol. I didn't notice that it was a resurrected thread.
