  1. I have the same problem on my wife's laptop. It's vista. I haven't tried clearing out the cookies and history b/c it's just as easy for me to grab my laptop.
  2. I bought my plane nearly a year ago-definitely a buyer's market then. IMO, it is in great shape and very well equipped for a C model. It was priced high for a C model, but still within VREF. I asked the broker if others had asked about it or if I was the only "sucker." He laughed and told me that several people had shown interest. In fact, someone was waiting to hear from him that day whether or not I showed up with my deposit.
  3. Quote: OR75 The C operating manual says in the landing gear section that the nose and main need to be 30psi
  4. Quote: Rustler My M20J book says 30# for the mains, and 49# for the nose wheel.
  5. let me ask a stupid question. Don't most engines have a recommended overhaul based on hours and years (like the continental guideline above)? Is it just a guideline to cover the manufacturer in case an issue arises?
  6. are you sure it's only up to 64 models? I have a 65 I would try it on if it would help.
  7. I put more air in the tires, and I noticed that I rolled a lot longer on the runway after landing. I've always thought the same thing that they looked low even with 30lbs.
  8. I hope it's relatively simple and inexpensive. I know you were excited about the purchase/trip, and I don't want this to sour your experience.
  9. well, I broke down and ordered the bad elf from amazon. I also downloaded the 30 day trial for foreflight on the ipad. The foreflight program is pretty cool. I'm looking forward to trying out the GPS function with the bad elf.
  10. Jim, a mooney is probably one of the more economical planes to own in its class. You can get a nice plane for <$100K, but like anything else, you have to shop and look carefully. Many of the planes in this price range will be 30-40 years old, so maintenance will be key. Height is usually not an issue in a mooney. I have a C model, and it has 4 seats but you'll need to get an F or J model to fit anyone comfortably for extended periods in the back seat. Like HopePilot said, a mooney is known for being a fast fuel efficient plane.
  11. Quote: danb35 ...and, to add to what the AC says, part 91 operations in light aircraft don't have any legal requirement for charts onboard the aircraft. That is, you can have old charts, unofficial charts (e.g., state-published charts), hand-drawn charts, or no charts at all, and you're perfectly legal (with the exception of the Los Angeles SFRA, and possibly others). I didn't realize that. I thought it was mandatory to have a current sectional to operate your plane.
  12. thanks for the info
  13. Sometimes you need a reminder not to get too comfortable and to remain focused. thanks for sharing.
  14. I finally broke down and bought a bad elf for a first generation wifi ipad. My primary goal is to put my sectionals and IFR plates on the ipad. I figured the GPS part would be a bonus. I'm only VFR now, but I'm planning to resume my instrument training when it gets a little cooler. I realize there have been a ton of threads about ipad apps, but I wanted to know what's most simple and cost effective. Also, do these digital copies meet the requirements for sectionals/charts needed for flight i.e. can I quit buying the paper copies and junking up my cockpit?
  15. thanks for the info. That's a good idea to allow me to buy him out with 30 days notice. I'll read the AOPA info, too.
  16. Jetdriven, I don't mind selling for half. I do see your point. I've put a few bucks into the prebuy (not a lot since I'm friends with mechanic), repairing the audio panel and did a few minor touch ups cosmetically. The previous owner flew it down since I was only 100 miles away, so I didn't have to invest in a ferry pilot or a ton of fuel. It would be nice to split the fixed costs such as the hangar, insurance and taxes since the plane sits in the hangar 99% of its life. I do have a lien on it, and his half would nearly take care of that. It has crossed my mind about what to do when it falls apart. How do you handle his half? Buy it back? If so, at what value? In this regards, George's idea about a lease/share option may be a good answer.
  17. Quote: N4352H Btw, how did you end up doing cylinders at 800 hours? Seems a little low and I am always on the lookout for indiosyncicies.
  18. I've only owned my plane for 10 months, so I'm new to airplane ownership. Anyway, I've had someone look at my plane, and he's very interested into buying into it. He's willing to pay 1/2 of what I paid last year. So here's my problem. I have no idea how to do this correctly. It's a pretty nice '65 C model. Manual gears and flaps. It has ~800 SMOH and 200 STOH. I don't see any major future maintenance with the exception of a reseal in the right wing. I assume most people put money in an account to cover operating costs and then put the plane back full of fuel. I have a guesstimate of how much it costs per hour to fly, but nothing concrete. I'm pretty lost on this whole thing. It may not happen, but I want to be ready if it does. Any suggestions?
  19. Quote: panther1400 If a tank has some fuel on the outside of the tank (not puddles, just damp "seep") could it last years or is it just a short time and it will be leaking and dripping. I know it is just a guess and anything could happen but has anyone a tank that seeps for years before it turns into a leak? Another thought is do you guys know how much it costs to reseal tanks and also do the corrision treatment in the wings and cockpit?
  20. I never heard of that. Does that keep someone from finding out info about your plane through the FAA, or does it notify ATC not to report your tail # to 3rd parties?
  21. Is isopropyl acohol a problem for fuel lines? I guess you're adding smaller amounts than the 10% ethanol in gasoline, but it still crossed my mind.
  22. that last post was mine. For some reason, I got logged in as Piloto.
  23. Quote: Jeff_S That's my problem. I've got a wifi only Ipad. I'm thinking about getting a bad elf or the xgps150 and trying to put all my sectionals on the ipad. You wouldn't want to sell your bad elf, would you?
  24. I think the 105 days in texas were better than the rain from Irene in Greensboro. Congrats on the purchase.
  25. Quote: Jeff_S I have the Bad Elf and it works fine, but frankly, I don't use it anymore because when I'm in-flight the internal GPS on the iPad seems to work just fine. I suppose if you don't have a 3G version of iPad then you do need some external GPS antenna, so that may be part of your question.
