  1. I’ll order a pallet. I’ll let you all know how it goes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. But hey- you got some cheap landscaping and the “imported” nanny didn’t cost much, right? Aviation continues to suffer as responsibility, morality and the fabric of our families continues to be frayed by “newer”, and “better?” Choices. We used to make aviation mechanics and pilots as many of us looked up at the sky wanting to fly - today, people want to be influencers or succeed at their only fans presence. No wonder ramps are emptying and mechanics and pilots are hard to find…or artisans in general. I just picked up a similar situation in Southern California. A neglected Comanche 180 was sitting on the ramp for over 20. Three bladed prop, complete with engine, interior, no missing fairings….just unclipped the wings and slapped it on two trailers…. One of my guys wants to overhaul the o360a1a himself, all the surfaces are already removed and stripped…ready for paint. Only the radios are missing. I got a mark 12d on my shelf that fits right in, a flybuddy and a transponder ….no rewiring yet. I got all the radios. The beautiful thing about Comanches is that the were chromated at the factory….the plane looked awful- algae growing on the wings.. After stripping? Zero surface corrosion…. I guess I could try doing this in communist China but not sure how well I’d fare with the advent of ADSB and the upcoming intended direct billing or taxation tied to using the system, we will see how much people like it as we keep sliding into socialism…
  4. Very nice paint! Hera another before and after… Just did my m20e a month ago. Between customer jobs… Wait time: zero (smile) Duration: one week and three days after hours Cost: I had all the Imron paint already saved for a project when it came up Value: priceless - the fuel bladders were inspected and reconditioned and so was the fuel injection Now I just need to make time to install the WAAS gps and adsb in and out I may do some letter scripting on it as well - I was thinking of keeping it but I’m have my eye on something much cooler

  6. I think - don’t quote me- lasars mooney inventory was sold to bas aircraft sales in Greeley, Colorado. Dan still does mail order but mostly from his bunny slippers.
  7. Let’s see…. I’ve got a full kitchen. Wifi. Air compressor. Two welders. A magneto checker, sandblaster, mill, break, shear, sandblaster, two ceiling beam hoists, drill presses, band saws, three sewing machines, AN bolt and rivet cabinets, powder coating oven, 2000sq ft of storage, bathroom, shower, televisions, tool boxes, safes, a dog run, parking spaces, trash bins nearby, cameras, a tire shelf, pneumatic and electric tools, my old paramedic kit, a wing rotisserie, a conference table, two pilot rest and recharge rooms, 480v power, and a massive generator that powers the whole airport and my shop as well…. 8. Awww Scottsdale. As is often the case with idiotic and lazy municipal airport staff, some savvy and enterprising person often finds a weak and corrupt government official to lease out airports in whole or to “manage” them - general aviation loses out, and the airports become crap for the average pilot…. Didn’t Palomar go through one of these price increases as they chased Jet $$$? I think Hawthorne was leased out in whole to Levi / Main Street / advanced air for like $487k a year I recall. Rates doubled and near tripled in short order… Camarillo and Oxnard refuse to sublease which makes them gems…. I think American Airports was finally and positively tossed out of LA County which effectively killed the company… Greed - screws it up for everyone. Capitalism is great until it takes away from the public good Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. The factory really breaks my heart. Some genuinely nice people. Maaaaaany have left at all levels. Engineering talent, support talent, service talent… Then we have a recent CEO who comes here clamoring for change and pleading for support, and then crickets…. Chinese money corrupts everything it touches.
  11. “Bad prep” is too general and subjective and doesn’t cover all sins committed included crappy product. Some people use “essentials” or “delfleet” and while a fine and pretty paint, durability is questionable. But hey! It look good when it left the shop…riiiiight? What about many of those lacquered jobs or those that were thinned too much or people who didn’t use the right amount of hardener or they used too much accelerator or… Piper did a crappy job in some lower end models we paint regularly and an outstanding job in others. I recently painted a Twin Comanche with original paint where all of it had all but fallen off …and though close to the ocean, it has virtually no corrosion because of how well zinc- chromated it was. Mooney didn’t do a fantastic job with our birds - I’d say middle of the road. I had a job done on my am model during the Gretchen years that didn’t even last 5 years before the Jetglo clear coat rotted…. We see airplanes that were alodined , we see airplanes that were chromated, we see airplanes with neither…. Often times factories and shops will take the bare aluminum, sometimes etch it / brighten it and sometimes not, immediately followed by a thin coat of “sealer” (a wet on wet primer)…sometimes the sealer is low quality or allowed to dry for too long and no real cross linking occurs with the paint- and not long after results in some awesome delamination, “crows feet” from sitting out in the sun for too long and destroyed all the way down to the bottom but hey - people think it will be fine if you just spray a little primer and paint on it. Full strip and paint jobs uncover many old sins and give us a chance to right many wrongs. We use paint from Axalta (imron), jetglo, skyscapes, awl grip, akzo and even Hentzen. By far the most durable system we see in GA is Imron. We standardize on Imron. If you want paint to stick and be guaranteed for 10 years, you gotta follow the TDS…. We are in Southern California….
  12. Dulux is a brand owned by Akzo Nobel now - don’t see it in aviation anymore. Mostly Jetglo (Sherwon, Cheaper), their pricier sky scapes brand, they want to use Genesis but nope, Imron which is the long lasting granddaddy of paints, awlgrip, and PPG is trying but ….while a few large labels use it, not much. Oh, and alive seen some airlines use Hentzen. We could use anything - other brands are cheaper but they don’t last as long. We don’t want the hassle with customers. Imron costs a bit more but it’s worth it in the end, specially if you park outside. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Anyone can paint an airplane for $4k! Sheesh …. Now for some realistic numbers … Materials alone for a “decent” imron white paint job are alone $4-5k. 1-2 gallons of primer and hardener, acid etch, alodine if you subscribe to that church, 3-4 gallons of paint, including color schemes, a gallon of red or silver will set you back $1600 -2000 each, N numbers, wing walk, window sealant, sandpaper, wire wheels, rivet scotch brite, 233 tape, stripper, aluminum foil tape…. I’ll tell you what: I’ll bet you $4,000 that you can’t do a “decent” imron paint job, normal white with two stripe colors of your choice, strip and paint, aviation grade materials including anti corrosion/epoxy primer for $4k. If you can, I’ll outsource all our paintjobs to you and just make stacks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk no
  14. I think I have an mx170c in the stash - let me know where you are. At least that may rule out the radio
  15. Bring it to me in California and I’ll fix it for you with it painting the whole thing
  16. Thank you! I think we will probably paint the model on the tail like the acclaim and complete it with the mooney chicken below the windows. We decided on Fire Red on the red and Titanium Pearl instead of silver to give it a bit more…”presence” along with the graphite stripe. So…not exactly the acclaim paint job
  17. Yuuup. So there I was a month ago flying big bear to compton in my k model. All avionics check out and say bye. Yikes Lucky for me I always fly with a usb battery powering the garmin portable and have a handy dandy portable around - flying 1 mile south of class B Can be challenging at 160 knots…. No issues … Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. This little E has about 2000ttaf and 650 Sfrm - so rather than going with a vintage scheme, I wanted to take the acclaim ultra scheme because it has a little retro in it. Sneak peak, not yet finished on the detail, but thought I’d share. Don’t be too harsh - yes the shop is dirty - getting ready to blast and paint the walls.
  19. RAM makes a 1” ball with every imaginable attachment. One of those is a portruding threaded fitting / bolt end that fits practically any unused instrument mount hole. You can’t get much more sturdy than a screwed on 1” ball, pick your spot. You can then use a short arm to your iPad, 696/796/760/696 mount anywhere you want. I have practically every garmin portable with a 1” ball mount behind it. No suction coming apart or loose in flight, just a nice portable being constantly charged Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Urea is atrocious and sometimes a pain to remove the scent regardless of material. I’ve had to restore all sorts of unimaginable projects - none of the commercial stuff does a good job. Petco’s offerings are useless. The one outstanding solution I’ve found is a mail order product called ODORXIT. Price but read the reviews. I’ve bleached surfaces, used ammonia, blah blah blah - but odorxit gets rid of the smell once and for all.
  21. Blah blah blah type certificate blah. I worked for the #1 stock of the decade in the 1990’s which appreciated 90,000 percent per the WSJ, September 1998. We took positions on customer stock in more accounts than I can remember. Archer? Pick a dozen. Learn the term PUMP AND DUMP. The FAA runs on slightly antiquated technology - the bureaucrats in it are often even more so. In this case, as they were in the 737/800 case, as they were in many manufacturers’ schemes to get things approved if only the proper inspector is hired…. …they are a willing tool in the pump and dump schemes of many an EVTOLs manufacturer. A fool soon parts with his money.
  22. Hello, Stubby! Feel free to PM me. A broker had a non exclusive chance to list it - and we know the rest. I’ll shoot you my phone number. I do have one other person interested as we speak with no deposits yet. Cheers! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Thanks for the info. Again - plenty of decent mechanics around to perform a pre-buy in southern California even without Crown Air. I'd buy this Mooney if I didn't own three already
  24. Up for sale is my business partner's 1978 M20J model - you too could own this marvelous piece of Machinery for only $110,000 Given the low airframe time and the amount of engine hours, this is by far one of the best M20J values in the market today. It is also listed with a broker on Trade a Plane. This is the least expensive M20J in the market today - the closest other J model at 115 has 1100 hours more on the engine. This airplane didn't do a ton of flying since 2015 until recently. The previous owner didn't complete certain maintenance on this fine bird for a while and it sat in his hangar until my partner finished the work and began to fly it over the last year. TTAF: 3200 and rising Engine: 5 on the bottom end, 30 on the cylinders, performed by Corona Engine Shop, and increasing Prop: 100 hours, Hartzell 3 bladed Radios: Nothing to write home about - Davtron Clock / Timer. King KX175B Nav/Com Glideslope King KNS 80 King KMA 20 Audio Panel King KFC 200 Auto Pilot King KCS-55 HSI King KT-76 Transponder Intercom Autopilot: KAP200, works like a champ Will gladly install anything you would like. ADSB: Wonderful tail beacon, ADSB-Out only - but you too can have glass installed on this marvelous flying carpet Beautiful Leather Interior, if you're into that 70's functional look. No tears. Damage History: This airplane used to reside in Europe and had a gear up in 1999 which was expertly repaired, All logs available. Airplane is in current annual which was extensive. The airplane is intentionally listed at a price intended to move the airplane fast. The owner purchased it from the previous long term owner who could no longer fly it - and brought it back to serviceable condition. There is a slew of independent IA's locally some which specialize in Mooneys that will gladly perform a thorough prebuy on this, along with Crown Air in San Diego that used to be a Mooney Service Center and...Foothill at Cable. PM me and I can give you additional information. Airplane is located at KCPM near Downtown Los Angeles and Long Beach. Text 6503395339 for additional information.
  25. Alright! Glad you’re thinking this through, OP. So we have a non cooperative non communicative party at fault, another party possibly at fault that’s deceased, the recognition that EAA may have liability, and the twist I missed which was the demo flight / the manufacturer. I think I was lucky enough to explain why people litigate, all while being accused of using “emotional” discourse to make the point. If the insurance is prohibitively expensive and you can’t shoulder the burden including destroying and airplane and killing two people, why are you flying??? And why shouldn’t you be sued into oblivion or be incarcerated since you couldn’t properly follow directions???
