Bynum Props in Ft. Worth does my eddy current. Might be worth a call, altough previous post on prop shops is usually pretty accurate. God bless this guy for working to revive this old bird. Has he had the wooded wings looked at? Also Air Salvave guys at Lancaster field near Dallas are also pretty helpful as well as Don Maxwell's shop.

Electric Tug and Tow Bar Recommendations
dcrogers11 replied to SkyBound's topic in General Mooney Talk
Okay, there was a bit of sarcasm as far as the wife part was concerned although she does open the door for me. I was too cheap to get the remote option on the hangar door. -
Electric Tug and Tow Bar Recommendations
dcrogers11 replied to SkyBound's topic in General Mooney Talk
My hangar is in back of my house, so I just get my wife to open the hangar door, grab the bar and pull me in while I sit in the plane and make sure she doesn't hit the sides. I tell her it is good exercise. -
How to restore wing walk compound?
dcrogers11 replied to M20E-1964's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
About 1/3 of a quart. Something I failed to mention was that I used my pressure washer to clean the surface and them let dry in the sun for the day. -
How to restore wing walk compound?
dcrogers11 replied to M20E-1964's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I just applied this product to my C as mine was faded as well. I went to Home Depot and bought the small 4" x 2" roller and applied it without thinning. I applied one coat onto the existing material and it looked good. I masked with some high quality masking tape. I took care to run tape just outside the existing non-skid paint to get as good a seal as possible. Don -

Check Craigslist and Ebay. I've seen several advertised over the past few months, but finding one in your area might be tough. I've been in two partnerships. The first was my CFI who offered half his plane and was a match made in heaven. The other ended in a divorce after one year and was my fault for not checking into it further and the lack of EVERYTHING in writing. I own my C model and the joy of ownership and 100% control is wonderful if the pocketbook can stand it. I would only consider a partnership now on a twin or larger 6 seater in a "flying club" setup with 5 or 6 guys and keep my Mooney for my commuting. Don

Dynon D-1 Pocket AHRS/Smart Phone Apps Pireps
dcrogers11 replied to dcrogers11's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
When you say that you have better luck with it docked, are you referring to the 3 1/8" hole adapter that comes with it and mounted in the panel? Have you had to use the external antenna? Thanks. -
Has anyone used the Dynon D-1 pocket AHRS and if so, how close did it follow your actual attitudes, etc. My thoughts are that it would be a nice inexpensive alternative backup to my aging steam guages. Although not approved for "permanant" installation in certiified aircraft, there are no laws that say it can't be placed on my upcoming panel upgrade in a space that could be left for it to be semi-permanantly (industrial velcro) attached. I wish that the FAA could wise up and allow the use of their D-6 or D-10 to occupy a place permanantly in the panel as long as it did not replace the certified guages. As far as smart phone apps, what are some that are out there that have had good reviews. Don

Are there any out there for sale?
-
There have been a few sold here on this forum in the past so just checking to see if there are any out there with low time that could be bought. Thanks, Don

Wow, that makes me feel like such a warm weather wimp here in Texas.

Thanks to both on the input. The one on Ebay looks like the ticket. Its already setup and ready for shipment. Don

I recently moved into my new home with a hangar and would like to hang a Mooney flag on the wall next to the Stars and Stripes. Has anyone seen one for sale?

I'll be replacing my Bendix/King 155 and 97 radios with a 430w and the GNC nav only. Any estimates on the transmitting distance on the 10 watt versus the 16 watt and any other advantages to the 16 watt. I'm curious of the improvement in transmitting distance over my 155 which I think might be 5 watts, but I could be wrong.

I was going to buy my wife a 12 guage Bereta Sporting Clays Special Edition shotgun for Christmas, but decided to buy her the Mini instead so that she could navigate for me on trips with Foreflight. ;-) Seriously, I've been using 1st gen iPad wifi only version since they we out and use it in my lap on flights. If you can just hold out until spring, the Retina display iPad Mini version with faster processor may be introduced which is a huge jump in graphics and speed.

I was trying to remember, but I beleive my 64 C's warning buzzer came on when below a certain airspeed w/o gear down. I was doing touch and go's during my BFR with my CFII and did not have my Johnson Bar latched completely. When turning to base, it came on and it took us a second to discover that I still had a red light on my gear up indicator. A quick nudge to the bar and the light and buzzer went off. My CFII and I looked at each other and said "Nice Horn" as it probably saved the gear from retracting at touch down. Would you not get the same warning on gear up situations if all is working correctly?

Sheet metal screw back-up clips
dcrogers11 replied to dcrogers11's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Thanks Dale. Found them but there are several part numbers for each screw size. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/hapages/tinnerman2.php Anyone have an idea on which one it is. 90% of the ones I'm replacing are on my cowling. -
Its time for me to repair and replace several of the screws and clips in various places on my bird. Can someone tell me the correct name of the small clips that clip on the sheet metal that the screw goes into. I'm guessing that Aircraft Spruce would have them, but I've not had any success searching their website. If someone has a better spot to buy them, please let me know. Thanks, Don

As soon as I'm back near my plane, I'll get a picture of it. Its very simple and about a 5 min. project. I'm away at work for a few days so hopefully will have it by early next week.

Ditto on the PVC device. Mine was about $3.00. Its a piece of 1" pvc and 18" long with a 1.5" bushing on the end wth a slot hand cut in it to match the fuel selector. I put a 1" pvc Tee at the top that runs the same as the slot at the other end to use as an indicator. Just make sure it doesn't get placed between the seats with Johnson Bar models. Sidenote, my Instrument Instuctor was insistent that I install shoulder harnesses in the front on my C model, which I did. He's had an off-field landing and he gives a lot of credit to his survival to the shoulder belts. Don

I guess I've lived under a rock as this is the first time i've heard that Pledge worked. My instructor, who later became my partner in my first plane years ago drove it into my head that anything other than plexiglass cleaner and a diaper could be used on it. This is nice to know.

I was concerned about overheating issues as well so the first time I used it, I stayed with it and checked the surface temps of all the surfaces involved with my infared gun. With cold ambient temps acting to cool the surfaces including the heating coils, no temperature exceeded 95 degrees. The space heater has a 1300w and a 1500w setting. I use the 1300w to prevent temps getting too hot although I don't think they would on the 1500w setting. The 4" hose does allow for suffecient flow up to the plane so it doesn't seem to affect the small heater. Ray-After checking temps on the front surface of the space heater, I just used some wire ties looped through small holes punched in the vent hose and looped them around the 2 gaurds on the front of the heater. These are the two gaurds that are there to prevent the heater surface getting too close to another object. I guess that I'm using them to do exactly what they were meant not to do. I was careful though to check on the heat build up and it was never a problem. My hangar is attached to my house so I don't wont to loose my plane and my house.

Max, my constant co-pilot, wears Mutt Muffs, a ThunderShirt, and a body harness. Takes me longer to get him suited up than it does me, but he's worth it to have him with me.

I know there has been some discussion on the subject of pre-heating so here's what I built for my hangared airplane. It may not work for everyone, but this setup has worked well for me in Texas where we're not hammered like the guys up north. I used it today and here are the findings- Ambient hangar temp- 31 degrees Time heater was used-4.5 hours Lasar gun temp of crankcase-33 degrees Lasar gun temp of crankcase after 4.5 hours-78 degrees 1300/1500w heater from Home Depot-$19.95 Flexable vent hose-$14.00 Scrap thin plywood- $0
