  1. Quote: tony Dave, I hope we get to see some before and after pictures!!
  2. I just received my MVP-50 in the mail yesterday!! I just need to find somebody, hopfully close by, to install it along with all the other changes I want to do.
  3. Scott- That'll be really nice when it's finished. Love to see the pictures.
  4. Quote: flyby201 Powerflow for IO-360 = $4500, Dawley said my overhaul would be $300 to $550 depending on what they had to do to it. My buddy, with whom I share a hangar, is a Powerflow dealer. A Powerflow exhaust is WAY down my list of desired upgrades. IMHO, the tradeoff of $$$ for HP isn't worth it, but he has a C-172 with powerflow and I can definitely see the difference on it.
  5. Welcome to MooneySpace FuriousPhoen1x! Nice looking bird! The Mooney looks great too! What a great gig you have!
  6. I love my retractable step, or at least the idea of it. When I was looking at Mooneys to buy, I looked at some that had no step and while they were the lightest and cleanest, they were harder to get into, but OK for me. People with with short legs will need some sort of assistance. I looked at some that had fixed steps and thought what a shame they were when people are spending good money to put things like gap seals and tail fairings on when there was this thing hanging out there in the wind. The retractable step seems like a great compromise between utility and speed. I checked the operation of my step during my pre buy by having my friend watch the step as we ran the plane up. Since then, I have no idea if it's really going up and down or not. I'm not sure if I would notice the difference flying or not. Does it really retract all the way? Is there a way to test the step? I thought briefly about installing a switch that woud trigger an annunciator on my upcoming MVP-50, but thought that was just too anal and probably a FAA reg nightmare. I love my step, but I also haven't had to pay to fix it yet either.
  7. Just curious, how does an exhaust overhaul compare with getting a Power Flow price wise?
  8. Nice! Are those the clear ones? I like clear and might change mine out one day, but I'm afraid clear will mean higher cabin temperatures. I currently have green.
  9. I got an iPad for Christmas too. I have already put Foreflight on it and ordered the aluminum kneeboard for it. I'll do a PIREP when I get it and use it a bit. I'm not a big fan of yoke mounts and I also didn't want to block my view of anything else including the windows, so I'm going to try to replace my trusty old analog kneeboard I have always used and attempt paperless.
  10. Quote: airbusflyboy I just talked to a guy this afternoon in Colorado, he has the very same airplane ......................... MOONEY 20 D MASTER, but his was converted to retractable model. Interesting ............................. looks to me that a lot of the Mooney 20 D Masters went that direction !

  12. Agree with others. Given that both coms are crackling in receive, I would suspect the weak link first. The jack is definately the weak link. Also try plugging your headset into another set of jacks, like the co-pilot side. Then try a different headset.
  13. Agree with others about flying vs. building. If you're buying the plane just because that's the kind of plane you want to fly, I would recommend just buying a completed one. RV10s show up for sale pretty regularly. What ever they are asking is almost always cheaper than whatever it would cost you to build when you consider your time. If you really do want to build and flying isn't that important, as a first time builder, I would definately go for the Vans. They are renowned for their precisely built kit parts that result in a perfectly true and rigged airframe without jigs, excellent instructions and customer support. There are also tons of fellow builders out there for support and a vast Vans community.
  14. Quote: jerry-N5911Q The Methyl Chloride stripper took the paint off "right quick." It took more time and effort to get that black plastic remains off. Still, two hours of work and it is all bare and shiny. Now, shall I paint first or just stick on the 3M wingwalk?
  15. Quote: GeorgePerry ...and my belief that we live in an overly litigious environment where all these attorneys are a necessary evil.
  16. Quote: acronut Hey Gary sorry to tell you but I'm the new owner of N328CM. Me and my wife flew it home the day before Christmas. Sounds like you have Jerry pegged. He won't offer up too much info but he won't lie to you either. I believe he still has the other one but I didn't even look at it so I can't help you there much. Kendal
  17. Quote: JimR Dick VanGrunsven saw the future. It's too bad that Mooney couldn't.
  18. Quote: airbusflyboy Screw the Chinese and their new found $$$ ........................ they only got where they are because of the political play that was going on to get them there ....................... The paradighm shift of wealth to the other side of the World does not mean that we have to accept it as being good for us ......................... We need MANUFACTURING here in these UNITED STATES, not overseas in some foreign sweat shops and especially a country like China that dehumanizes the souls of those working in its factories. The Chinese will not ever be able to produce anything on par with U.S.A manfacturing ................... Why ? Because MADE IN USA has meaning and a sense of integrity that cannot and will not ever be equalled anywhere else in the world.
  19. Quote: airbusflyboy I understand that it is basically a "C" model with the gear welded down ???
  20. Quote: FlyDave I just noticed that a number of people wil be/try to be in Sedona. My wife and I are leaving EMT for Sedona in about 45 minutes - arrive around 2:15. See 'ya there!
  21. Quote: KLRDMD You can jump start the airplane with the external power receptacle I have ('67F).
  22. Quote: maxmax I don't want to ruffle any feathers, but we are in a bit of a pinch here in the US. We are going to have to start producing things again, and rewarding capital investment rather than punishing it. We cannot tax and spend our way to prosperity.
  23. Welcome MaxMax!! Goes to show how deep the Mooney affliction runs! You can quit, but you'll probably be back. It'll be fun to see you and your partner's new J!
  24. Happy holidays to all! Hey Sven, if you haven't seen this thread yet, there is a new member asking questions about life with a fixed gear D. I suspect he has seen the one for sale on eBay. You are definately the guy to answer his questions. http://mooneyspace.com/index.cfm?mainaction=posts&forumid=2&threadid=2053
  25. Quote: robert14 I have a factory external power plug on my 65 M20E. It "does not" allow for a "jump start" of the engine. There is a relay in the circuit that "disconnects" the starting/battery circuit and bypasses the master switch when external 14V is applied. I use a Spruce 14V power supply to plug into the port on the right side of the plane just behind the wing trailing edge. I have spent many hours using this feature to famialize myself with operation of my Garmin 430 and SL30. To jump start my engine, I still have to remove the access panel (behind the left wing) to the battery and use standard jumper cables.
