Definatly dont think about chrome, the process can lead to brittle aluminum on the spinner, I did use Tony brock did do mine, if you get him to do it you will be pleased with the results, be sure you have a time frame discussed, mine did take 6 weeks to do ! There is the do it yourself route, and if done properly can produce good results, but nowhere near what a proper polish can do. My advice get it polished professionally, it will be easy to keep up with a good polish or wax and no issues with metal distress. It does look awesome and as close to chrome as possible. See my photo gallery for pictures.

I have sold many units that turn off/on your heater. They use a pager # and require the cost of the unit $400 and a monthly fee of $7-8 montly. You simply call the # and enter a code # to turn on /off the unit. Simply plug the unit into the ac outlet and plug in the heater or device you want on/off , Heater ,, battery charger or any ac device. And you can turn it on /off anytime you want. A couple of hour before flying turn it on ! Now these units only have enough amperage to run 10-15 amp devices. I have modified them for 20 amp service. I have a heater for the engine and a small heater for inside the cabin connected with no issues. Warm engine warm cabin at the same time! Now there is a few units around $200 that use cellular, and must be hardwired to a cord and again 10-15 amps max. But with metal hangars cell coverage may not be good enough to work correctly or relaible. The pager units work fine and signal goes thru a hanger with better results. The company is Nighthawk. http://nighthawkcontrol.com/wp-content/themes/Nighthawk/images/pdfs/nighthawk-NH100.pdf

The ipad is awesome and foreflight is a great deal at 75.00 a year, and if you have an iphone as well , Foreflight allows you to have a subcription on both devices at the same time for the same price. The 3g wi fi model is the only one with built in GPS, and works increadable to follow while on charts . This is awesome in IFR , and for re-routes and fixes. You really will wonder how you lived without it. Updating is easy over any wi fi connection. The lower cost i pads will work , just no gps to see while you fly along on the chart, I find the added value of the gps model to be right one for IFR , the plates are about full size and are easy to read . There is a few lower cost options, but for the best value i have to say foreflight is the best and seems to be adding more and more value as they progress. No need to activate the AT&T service, Wi fi works for all updates and 28 day chart and plates. Quite possibly the best tool i have used in aiding in IFR flight!

79 J Wing tip strobes control power suppy
sixsixX replied to sixsixX's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Thanks luc, I believe thats where mine are as well, when you say the second panel from the leading edge , is that the second panel out from the fusesalage or wingtip in ? Just want to pull the right one off first, as the panel and screws were painted. I just want to check the connections and test the unit before taking it into the shop! Thanks ! -
Hi, My 79 j has the wing tip stobes which i believe are the original Grimes units. I was wondering what exact under wing panel houses the control unit, I did not have time to remove each panel , but starting at the wing tip i did remove the first two(2) oval panels and only viewed the wiring going back. These were placed back on with new screws from the recent paint job, the further ones have been painted over , so iam just wondering the exact one for the strobe control before pulling off the other panels. Thanks in advance !!

Did the FAA e- form like instructed, 5 days later got the new registration. Seems to work out ok. As long as we get a notice when its about time to re-register i dont think it will be an issue.

Placards on Cloth Interior Panels - How To?
sixsixX replied to Jeff_S's topic in General Mooney Talk
I would get a thin plastic sheet, such as a folder/binder cover from Staples or an office supply store, trim it slighly larger than your decal, Apply your decal and then round the edges with a pair of scissors, it cuts easily. The you can then attach it to your fabric , using a 3M glue, or simply trim it a bit larger and use four nice trim screws at each corner to attach. -
Aeroleds will have a certified led position/strobe unit repacement soon they say, with a "blanket Stc" to possibly cover mooneys. Nice units and self contained strobe unit, no boxes ! Very cool, hopefully there stc will go through, they say a month??? Price estimated 800-850 a pair. As gathered through Garmins website , a NO cost update to Geo-Refrenced approach charts with current Garmin Flightcharts for the 696 will be avalible late 2010. In a hurry , Jepp has it now, pay 400+ for a software key and use Jepp charts on the 696, I think I will wait for Garmin to include it in Flightcharts. Ram mounts had a yoke mount ipad holder that will work on current Ram yoke mounts its the AP8U and looks to be a nice clip in , low weight style holder. I have one on order. And Foreflight was there, quite possibly the coolest cost effective avation product ever. That was the cool stuff i saw out there!

On the Garmin site it says the Garmin flightcharts will be avaible and provide geo -refrenced plates in later 2010, at no additional cost. However to use Jepp, the additional cost for the software key is required from Jepp and is avalible now. I would rather wait for Garmin to have the update for the software at no additional cost included with the Garmin flightcharts downloads we use now. I hope this is how its going to work !!

The i pad sure is getting a lot of attention, If you simply want to refrence charts and use just wi-fi to acess all the foreflight info on the ground the lower versions of the i pad will be fine, as for the gps refrencing in the air the 3g models are the only ones to allow gps refrencing, even with little to no 3g signal, both foreflight and other users have tested up to 11,500 and found the gps was still able to refrence position on the latest foreflight software on sectional and ifr maps, there is no geo refrencing on plates ,just the maps. In truth, to use an i pad to refrence maps ,especially ifr low enroutes is simply awesome, i used foreflight on a ifr trip last week and every one of my 3 reroutes by atc were easily brought up and all fixes airways were at my fingertips, allowing me to keep all the paper charts in my flightbag during the entire trip !! GPS or no gps this feature on an i pad justifys having it alone, on the ground, flight planning ,weather are awesome on the ipad and the foreflight program , That said ,it is justified to have the nice size of an ipad for viewing of charts, airport info, and now georefrncing on the maps while in the air , and the remainder of its functions on the ground. The size of the unit and foreflight are just tools we can use until maybe more develops for this product, Expecting it to perform like a 496 or other portable gps units is not what this product can do at this time, But what it can do for now is provide a very easy to use view of mapping . airport info , plates that will be easy to acess and view in the plane and provide a wealth of info while on the ground.

I have used the ForeFlight program on my i touch on a recent ifr trip, It is a awesome program, I have a i pad on order for the program and with all the latest updates and the designers are on there way to making this a must have product. The i pad will make this program even stronger. As a result, I have a brand new (3 months) old Flight Cheatta FL150 GPS unit a $995 cost for $800 if anyone is interested.

Check the wire connection at the fuel pressure switch. I recently had the same issue and it was the crimp on wire connector at the pressure switch that caused it.
