  1. I don't want you to feel bad, but it ROCKED! The people at Artcraft Painting are pure class and their facilities are awesome. If anyone is thinking of getting their bird painted, you'd have to be out of your mind to get it done anywhere else. Winds were a bit rough (for the wife), but it was the first time for her in our new plane. The mexican food was great, but what impressed me most were the people. Also, I won 25 gallons of gas!
  2. Piloto: Do you raise the flaps as you flare or after the mains have touched?
  3. Go for the J! I hadn't flown a J until I bought mine (only a C) and I can't believe how refined it feels. Anyway there are a lot of planes out there and if you have the patience you will find the right plane eventually. Seriously, I looked for two years and was just about to give up.
  4. Hmm, maybe I'll make a friend at the next Vintage Mooney fly-in who will let me change the oil at his hanger. Seems like something I might be able to figure out how to do.
  5. 1.25 seems reasonable to me.
  6. Okay, so I bought my first plane and I have no idea. I got a bid today for 3hrs at $80 plus oil/filter, etc. What is reasonable? No, I can't do it myself. I'm at KBUR and they won't even let you blow your nose without an environmental report. Thanks everyone!
  7. Oh, I get it. You don't have to pay for the PFD, but you have to pay for the Jeppesen data for the MFD. Anyone know how much that is?
  8. What are the subscription fees for the Aspen?
  9. Thanks Parker, I should have clarified that I'm talking about just the 16 oz. trigger spray (not the fogging done by the pros). Looking to just do some small spots.
  10. So I went down to Aircraft Spruce today and bought some Corrosion X. Any tips on where to spray? Can I spray with wild abandon into the tailcone and wheel wells? Anything I should avoid? Haven't a clue where to start.
  11. Has anyone had speed brakes installed in SoCal and who did you go to? Were you happy with their work? Could have you them a couple of times in the last few days.
  12. For now I'm at KBUR. I'd like to find someone to sublet me hanger space at KWHP (or even KBUR).
  13. Yup, I bought 77V! It's a solid plane with a new B6 engine. I have a KLN94 (instead of a G430w), but I figure I'll upgrade when the next big thing comes out. Flew back from Arizona yesterday and tomorrow I start my transition training. Flies sooo smooth. I'm no longer at KVNY, so it looks like 16L Pilot will be coming to an end (as soon as I think of a new name).
  14. Yeah, I figured out it was in the weight and balance, but not "checked" shortly after I posted.
  15. If someone with a J installs these cupholders, could you please post a pic? I'd like to order them, but I'm not sure if we have room for one, or two...
  16. So I finally got my bird yesterday! Yes, years of annoying everyone with questions finally paid off and I am a legitimate Mooniac (1983 201). Now the new, improved, owner questions shall commence. I'm going to need a place to get my plane serviced and I'm not sure where to start. I was thinking Foothill Aircraft, but I'm not really sure . Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
  17. Watching this as well. Even my wife said, "Go guy in the small Mooney!"
  18. I'd like to learn where the spots you spray with the "rattle can" for maximum effect are located? Any specifics/photos are appreciated.
  19. 92k for a '77? That pretty much says it all. I think that plane has been for sale since the Wright Brothers were experimenting with gliders.
  20. The pilots at KVNY are sexier, smarter, and just downright...oh never mind.
  21. Abandon ye all hope... Thought I had just found my plane, but was outbid by someone with more money than sense at the last minute...
  22. Obviously, any number is a guess (duh), but I believe I saw the theoretical number on a pilot's thread I recently read. Planequest says about 25k.
  23. Yeah, but doesn't the annual operating cost run around $24k?
  24. Would I be quicker if I had the money ready in an escrow account or did you skip that?
  25. I'm not opposed to the right F model, it's just not my preference. I was prepared to buy what I felt was the best F I've ever seen (STEC 30, Garmin 480w, perfect paint and interior, all mods, everything else you can imagine under the sun), but someone bought it the day before I had scheduled with the owner to see it. Part of my reluctance to buy an F is that I know I can get the J I want, because I've seen them, only the timing wasn't right. There is, also, what I would call, "The Xmas Factor." Remember when you would ask for something very specific and then you'd get something very similar, but slightly different.
