  1. That's a heckuva long time to be sitting left seat. Those numbers are pretty impressive. Like they say... That's why we fly Mooneys!
  2. THe problem I was running into when it got cold was flooding. The guy that gave me my check ride told me to use the boost pump until the fuel pressure was well into the green. The cold wx was making the gauge read slow hence the flooding. Now I keep the pump on for 3-5 seconds and it works well.
  3. Reiff is what I'm going with. The compatability with my engine moniter, ease of installation and the good price is what pulled me in. Thanks for the imput.
  4. Welcome Chuck, good to have another 201 on board. Ditto on the MAPA guys. MOA looks to be dead in the water too. I had to get my money back when I joined MOA because I never got any of the magazines and couldnt log into the site. After about 4 months I got reimbursed.
  5. I like to hear you guys are out there putting in the hours. Papa X-Ray is getting out of annual next week so I'm looking forward to getting back up in the wild blue yonder. North Carolina and upstate New York are on the schedule. Fly safe.
  6. The flush plug does sound like it would be an easy fix to the problem. Wonder why there isn't a mod out there for it?
  7. What are you guys thoughts on the Mooney ram air system? I've got a 77 J and notice only about a 1/2" or so when it is on so I generally don't use it. I don't really see any difference with it on or off.
  8. An elderly gentleman in my church was one of the guys that stormed the beaches in the war. It's pretty amazing to see the pictures and the shelling damage.
  9. It was overhauled in 1998 and resealed in 04'. My mechanic said the spinner looks like it hasn't been off in a while, which I thought would have been done on a pre buy. Overall the plane is in great shape... I can't really complain:)
  10. Well... the small issue with the prop needing to be resealed has turned into a little bigger issue. Once the prop shop got in and tore the prop down they found that the hub had a little too much corrsoson for their liking... The hub is being rebuilt at this time. The dreaded first annual is beginning to look a little less like I had hoped would. A highly acclaimed Mooney shop did the prebuy. Seems this could have been caught.... Oh well, the joys of plane ownership!
  11. Has anybody else experienced spotty wx service recently? The last couple of times that I have flown the wx will not show up on my 496 but on the return trip, a few hours later, it will be there as usual... weird.
  12. I travel to the Colorado area alot and always stop at the numerous front range airports because most of my business is pretty close to Denver. I've talked to a few people, my dad included, who have flown the passes in the Rockies and Cascades and say that as long as you make sure the winds are fairly calm it's not that difficult. I guess alot of the passes are very wide and well marked. I plan on taking a mtn flying course this summer and was just curious as to what to expect. i don't plan on going into any short, unimproved strips. I'll stick to Durango and Pagosa Springs.
  13. Congrats. What all are you getting installed? I'm about to get mine out of annual where it's been for the past two weeks and am ready to get it back. Of course the wx has been extreme VFR every day that she's been down!!
  14. The best thing to do is bring the plane to a Mooney Service Center. If that's not avaliable to you I would make sure that the mechanic you choose is familiar with your style of Mooney and does several Mooney annuals per year. My mechanic is not a certified MSC but at any given time he will have 2 or 3 M20J's in his hanger that he has been maintaining for years. If you don't have a Mooney service manuel you can get the list of items that must be completed for the annual off of their website... so I've been told.
  15. Anybody out there have any experience flying the Southern Rocky passes?
  16. I'll be getting a preheater installed soon and was wanting some pros and cons on the heaters anyone currently has or has had in the past. I've looked at Reiff and Tanis so far. My plane is in an unheated hanger where the winter nights average around 30 degrees.
  17. After reading the good reviews on ASL Camguard I've started using it with every oil change. Has anyone out there used Marvel Mystery Oil as a fuel additive? If so what do you think about it?
  18. I am nearing the end of my first annual which I have dreaded for months. The outcome has been very good with the only major issue being the seal on my prop. I decided to go ahead and get the prop rebuilt since it has been 10 yrs and it will be one last thing I will have to worry about in the future. All in all it's a good start to the new year.
  19. I get chills just watching the video... must be a horrible feeling. Alun, let me know how you like the system once it gets installed.
  20. I'm sure most of you have seen this video. It sure makes you wonder how the pilot missed the very loud beeping in the background alerting him that his gear was still up. My gear horn, stall horn and altitude hold trim up/down horn all sound pretty much the same. The "Bitchin Betty" gear alert system sounds like a good investment, do any of you have any experience with it? http://webmail.aol.com/40627/aim/en-us/Mail/get-attachment.aspx?uid=1.21102210&folder=Deleted&partId=2&saveAs=Whatsthatbeeping.wmv
  21. NIce, thanks for the pointers Jim.
  22. Since my plane blows out everything over 6 qts should i reduce the amount of oil by 5% when the camguard goes in??
  23. I 've had my Mooney since mid September and have put 65 hours of PIC time in it since then. The previous 8 months I put 100 on the Cherokee (it was out of of commission for two months) for a grand total of of 165 hrs for 2008. The longest nonstop flight I took in 08' was 533 nautical miles from ROG to FTG. The shortest was 12 miles from ROG to ASG to bring my plane for annual last week. What about you other pilots? Looking forward to 09'.
  24. Does anybody have any thoughts on asl camguard? I decided to purchase and give it a try for a few oil changes after reading about it in one of MOA's old magazines and a few other places online. It seems to get good reviews overall. Safe flying in the new year!
  25. I agree, I have used Fltplan.com for the past couple of years as well and it is extremely accurate on winds aloft, the various notams and airport info and wx info. I also use weather.gov and click on the aviation tab to look at all of the airmets and sigments for turbulance, convection, iciing... It's pretty cut and dry showing where the trouble spots are with their map overlays. I've never used the AOPA site so I can't compare the two.
