  2. I did mention there's more to come. This in and of itself is a significant step in the right direction. Everyone working on this understands where we want it to go. One step at a time.
  3. You have to read the STC's. Dynon is only approved in a few airplane models and not approved for Mooneys. Garmin is approved for 562 different aircraft models. The entire mooney line is included.
  4. I purchased my G5 today. $2400 which includes the antenna, install kit and battery back up. Say what you want about the price difference between certified and experimental versions, there's nothing else on the market that does what this does even at twice the price. My vacuum pump and electrical back up are history. I was glad to be a small part of this effort and there's more to come.
  5. Welcome to the group! You'll love your Mooney and a long flight from PA to CA will really help speed that process. Make sure you get a check out and some transition training. I'm in MD. If you'd like my help getting familiar with the plane before setting off cross country, let me know. Happy to provide you some instruction and transition training for free.
  6. Please send them to me in a PM! much appreciated!
  7. Could be several versions of the STC floating around. It has evolved over the years. I am getting my 310 STC through Mooney so as soon as I pick up the plane and I have the "actual paperwork" I'll scan and post.
  8. To be fair the pilot was flying and the kids were playing...But you make a valid point. It doesn't send the right message for safety. The potential mixed message has already been addressed internally.
  9. I think you might be wrong about the RPM limitation. Here's a copy of the midwest mooney version of the STC paperwork. Shows max continuous RPM as 2700 with recommended max of 2550 Also Hartzell says the three blade replacement is as good or better in cruise than the 2 blade McCauley. But admittedly they might be somewhat bias.
  10. Thanks to everyone who forwarded this information...I received the 310 STC chart and was able to pull the Ovation 2 ROP and LOP cruise charts off the web. Issue is that they don't really match up. Ovation 2 has power segmented in two charts 50 deg ROP best power and 50 Deg LOP best power and gives power settings at 75% 65% 55% and 45%. The 310 STC chart is "all in one" with power at Max, 78%, 70%, and 60% with a note that says subtract 8% power for LOP ops. Almost all of the time I run at 65% LOP. Good compromise setting for power, temps, fuel flow, and keeps the engine out of the red box. So the STC chart isn't ideal. Also if you interpolate off of the 70% power from the 310 chart, run LOP and subtract 8% like the not says, you get 62% power, which at 2400 rpm yields 13.3 GPH. Compare that to the Ovation 2 chart for LOP at 65% power and at 2400 RPM and it yields 12.3 GPH. So they don't match. That said I understand the common denominator is % of rated power so the 310hp from the STC chart and 280hp from the Ovation 2 chart won't be the same. So what I think I'm going to do is use the 310 charts for TO and Climb and the Ovation 2 charts for cruise and set percentage power accordingly. I'll use 2400 RPM, 22in MP, 12.3 GPH, Which puts the IO-550 running at 59% of the maximum rated horse power of 310, but 65% of the Ovation2's rated HP of 280. Clear as mud!
  11. Looking for Best Power and Best Economy charts for an ovation 3. Anyone gott'em?
  12. The short answer is no fancy gadgets....Just my experience in the stock eagle. For TO, I know that fully loaded on winter day, TO roll is about 900-1000 ft based on fixed distance markers. In the summer its about 1200-1400 foot TO Roll. For Climb in winter fully loaded I see 1200-1300 ft p/min initial climb and summer I see about 900-1000 ft/min. For cruise I know that at 2400 RPM and 22 in MP burning 12.3 Gal/Hr LOP it cruises at 170 knots TAS +/- depending on ISA. ROP is 180 knots TAS at 15.8 G/hr. I'll see what I get after the mod.
  13. For anyone who wonders what they get besides a great magazine from AOPA...Check out the latest upgrades to the flight planner....This is cool! https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2016/july/19/plan-your-route-to-airventure-with-aopas-new-weather-tool
  14. The short answer is that it depends on if you need a 3 bladed prop or not. If you need a 2700 rpm tachometer or not etc...etc. Here's a thread that does talk about some pricing.
  15. Apologies for un-hijacking the thread but here's a picture of the install in progress. Test runs tomorrow.
  16. Did you ever do the install? I plan on stopping by their booth at Osh this year to see what I can find out.
  17. + 1 for Paul. I had my M20S tanks done at Paul's shop. His work is top notch and customer service is "Minnesota Nice"!
  18. I'd watch the news out of Oshkosh this year. Might be some really good, low cost options coming our way.
  19. Hank,

Just to you but I read your post about Third Class Medical which said

Yep, it passed. Thus was my evening EAA email:

Third Class Medical Reform Signed into Law

Can you forward me a copy of that email?  brainf18@yahoo.com

  20. Our Government Affairs experts tell me this: The FAA has 180 days to act but there’s no penalty at the 180 day mark if they haven’t enacted regulations and pilots still can’t fly under the reforms if there are no regs at that point. At the one year mark, however, if the FAA has still not completed the regulations, then it can’t bring an enforcement action against a pilot who makes a good faith effort to follow the provisions of the legislation, so pilots can fly under the reforms at that point.
  21. I'm not the regulatory expert, but appreciate you pointing that out. Let me check on it and get back to you soonest.
  22. Questions about what Third Class Medical Reform means for you?...Check out this link. https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2015/december/09/third-class-medical-faqs
  23. Bennett - Great to hear. Yep AOPA has stubbed it's toe several times in the past, esp under prior leadership. But there's a new team at AOPA from the CEO down. We are making progress and we're glad to have you back on board!
