  1. In addition, The wingtips also improved the takeoff performance and reduced the flaps up stalling speed by a whopping 6 knots! They aren’t just for show.
  2. Aren’t the side windows riveted / bolted in? Or is it a threaded stud / nut arrangement?
  3. My plane is always stored in a heated hangar. Up at altitude, I was showing about -37*C OAT today when I Heard a "pop" randomly, figured it was just one of my water bottles expanding. Took me awhile to notice it, a crack in my side window from the storm window hole down to the bottom. What's the fix for this? My plane has relatively new paint, so replacing the whole window is somewhat out of the question. Is there an approved procedure to grind and epoxy this? It whistles slightly over about 150 knots now. Doesnt have to look perfect, its very well out of my field of view.
  4. Just lift the handle, and bend the little tab back further. I was able to get almost a half inch engagement on mine.
  5. @Gee Bee Aeroproducts My MSE came with clear chafe tape on the insides of all cowl edges where pieces meet from the factory. Maybe earlier models didn't? That stuff works like a hot damn. I find it especially useful on the edges of gear doors to keep them from rubbing.
  6. My spring broke also, and yes you need to un-rivet the entire assembly to replace the spring. I've had good luck with some automotive two sided trim tape to keep it closed, as I never use it. If I ever needed a boost, would be easy enough to open the door and overpower the tape. I do like the magnet idea though, I think I may give that a try.
  7. On the airframe or from your wallet?
  8. It sure as heck is required here in Canada. At least a CoC stating that they're made to meet or exceed OEM specifications, or else nobody is going to be able to install them here. I like your workmanship, and I'd like to put these on my plane, but no Canadian mechanic will touch them without the proper paperwork.
  9. I like your idea. I'd salvage them! Consider them a "prototype" anyways, the first ones are never perfect!
  10. What size tires are you running? Those look awfully skinny.
  11. What’s wrong with it? Looks pretty decent.
  12. @Gee Bee Aeroproducts do your ducts come with 8130’s?
  13. Just pull the return wire off the back of the switch. Annunciator remains bright. Not even bad at night. Reversible and takes about 60 seconds.

  15. Speed tape will work wonders here. No need to stuff foam in or anything.
  16. Those tanks look incredible
  17. I'm gonna try mine in an ultrasonic cleaner for a bit. Should be able to get all the grot out of there.
  18. $323/ea. Came direct from Mooney but I ordered through LASAR. They also had a couple in stock, but I needed 8130’s for them because Canada. The ones at LASAR might be a bit cheaper.
  19. I just picked up a set from Mooney. The MFR. date on them was Nov 2024 so maybe they just got a whole batch in.
  20. Hot damn those are gonna be sweet!
  21. Fore-aft slop in the piano hinge can sometimes be cured with a little bit of safety wire in one or more of the gaps. Gets rid of the slop.
  22. Agree. Samir, get your airplane out of there and take it to a shop who is wiling to work with you. It's nowhere near as complicated as they're making it seem.
  23. I just had all 4 rod ends swapped on my J. Order them new from LASAR. My shop took about an hour to install them, then another half hour to swing the gear and adjust them so the doors closed up nice and tight. Your CFI sounds a little, um... as though they need some coaching in the nuances of pilot decision making. The gear works fine, the doors close normally, why risk something like an engine failure after takeoff with gear that's stuck down? And why the ferry permit? Ferry permits are only applicable to aircraft with an unairworthy component. It's airworthy, and even if your CFI made the decision to fly it gear down (again, why?) you don't need a ferry permit to fly a retractable with the gear down. This, to me, is sounding some alarm bells about this CFI. Maybe you should be looking for another one. If the rods haven't yet been adjusted, there is no harm in retracting the gear like normal. Fly it to a shop who knows what they're doing, and have them changed in an afternoon.
