The top one is showing your are tracking 77 while the bottom one shows you are on a 98 heading. Apples and oranges.

When you say reset the gear breakers; had anything popped?

I only do ADSB. You should be able to display the ADSB feed on your other avionics and your iPad.

Based on the G100UL fuel leak thread what's your position?
Paul Thomas replied to gabez's topic in General Mooney Talk
Experimental do not require an STC to use alternative fuels, just like they don't need an STC to put an alternative engines. It's all up to the owner/builder. -
Flying into Midway (MDW) - should I go IFR or VFR?
Paul Thomas replied to AndreiC's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
No experience at MDW but I prefer to travel IFR, especially when going into bigger airports. I think it makes coming into their airspace easier, I get an automatic Bravo clearance, and I'm treated the same as GA VFR traffic once I report the field in sight but I never expect a tight pattern. They're used to bringing in big iron and seem keen on giving me a long final but want 150 knots till 5 mile out. I think a tight pattern would actually work best but that's not how things are done. Leaving, since it's a short flight, I may just head south VFR and climb once outside the Bravo. I know you're going away from home but you'll be in control of your routing and get home just as fast. I always find it more difficult to leave from an airport under a Bravo than just about anywhere else. I've never had a flight plan issue but I tend have to wait for an IFR release. I've had to wait up to 30 minutes but ATC involved supervisors on their own to get me out after 15 mins or so. I don't like to be stuck down low but sometimes it's the way to go. -
@meddesign@natdm Could either of you upload the files now that the file formats have been added? I had my neighbor print the one meant for the pipers and it's not quite the right fit. I'll have to go back with some washers to see if I can make it work but the correct file would be better. Thank you, Paul

Based on the G100UL fuel leak thread what's your position?
Paul Thomas replied to gabez's topic in General Mooney Talk
I have to admit that I'm disappointed. I'm a skeptic but I wanted to believe in G100UL, I was impressed by George Braly's willingness to engage, and I wanted to give G100UL the benefit of the doubt. As a fuel, it really does appear to work and I thought GAMI was sitting on a goldmine; I could even see an easy marketing campaign starting at Sun 'N Fun, ending at Oshkosh that would involved other big fly-ins and be easy for any media to promote. It would be so easy to go worldwide and make great press. I wish GAMI the best and hope material compatibility can be sorted out and that a winning formula can be developed. Alternatively, let's figure out which paints, hoses, etc. are not compatible and state that. I bet there would still be plenty of willing customers and the fleet will adapt. It did for ethanol. I never understood the marketing path GAMI used for G100UL and it appears this crisis is being mishandled. When it comes to safety or not taking risk with customers, a lot can be learned from Tylenol's 1982 recall. -

The damage to the RV6 is shocking; it looks like it was vandalized with paint stripper. I could see insurance companies having a fit with G100UL... a simple leak that would have cost an insurance company nothing is now very expensive. I wonder if the insurance industry is going to say if you want to use the STC, your coverage will have a higher cost. -
Multiple reports on Facebook from users who are unable to reach MooneySpace; one is getting an error that the domain is for sale.

As I gain experience, my tolerance for taking off with low ceilings continues to decline. I remain IFR proficient but I very much try to take off and land in VMC conditions.

Source for storm window latch
Paul Thomas replied to Paul Thomas's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Thank you all. My neighbors bought their youngest a 3D printer. I'm going to have him print it; he's taking an entrepreneurial class so this project will fit right in and I'll learn more about 3D printing. -
The latch to the storm window broke today; the small piece of plastic that rotates to keep the storm window closed. Does anyone know where I can order one or if there is a file to have it 3d printed? Thanks, Paul

Sales Tax Exemption (Florida)/Ebay
Paul Thomas replied to Paul Thomas's topic in General Mooney Talk
I spoke way too soon... While I did receive one email attempting to resolve the tax issue, it completely missed the mark. I have not received any reply since (despite promising answer within 48 hours). I also can't seem to get to a human being on the phone. Sigh. -
Is the wiggle front to back or side to side? Has he determined where the wiggle is from? LASAR is a company that sells parts.

Two Lessons From The DCA Crash
Paul Thomas replied to GeeBee's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
I think it depends on the operation; people should be able to come in and land VFR. This was a bad place to transition (there was another airline in trail) and an even worse place to be practicing. -
Two Lessons From The DCA Crash

I saw the radar track this morning as the controller would have seen it. That looks a lot different than what the news was showing yesterday and provides more context. -
I find the way the black ends in front of the horizontal stabilizer doesn't match the rest of the flowing lines. One thought is to carry that line above the horizontal stabilizer, and make it match the bottom black line, curving up on the vertical stabilizer. That would make the whole fuselage black on the top.

Proposed Modification to RSW Airspace
Paul Thomas replied to Paul Thomas's topic in Florida Mooney Flyers
I wonder if they would be willing to have a corridor. I've had great luck transitioning through their airspace but I've also heard them tell others "aircraft calling, stay out of the Charlie" too often. The 6,000 feet ceiling will be an obstacle for the Naples based pilots. A committee is being formed. I don't know how much real input the committee will have vs. what ATC (FAA) wants, but Naples may want to be involved in the discussions. Last I had looked, ATC kept the airliners at 4,000 while going toward Fort Myers Beach, turned them between 4-2,000 over the water, and brought them back inbound for runway 6 at 2,000 till established. If they are going to keep something similar, a corridor should make everyone's life easier. -
I'm all for owner maintenance and doing thing on your own... but I'd want to do a gear swing after replacing a tire and removal/re-install of the lower gear door.
-
The FAA has proposed to modify the Class C Airspace at RSW. I think the biggest impact is going to be to those that typically transitioned above the C. I'm not sure how quickly these type of changes happen, or how much modification there will be as they are forming a committee.

Aren't you based in PGD? If so, there is a Mooney owner on the field that is an AI that can do it. If you're still looking, shoot me a PM and I'll send you his contact info.

The airshow "deals" are also typically found online. I'm going because I enjoy going but I wouldn't go seeking a deal (and I'm Florida based).

Forgot the tow bar, that’s gonna be expensive!
Paul Thomas replied to 201er's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I'm glad you're posting someone else video... the title had me worried. -
One night over the everglades, I became so disoriented in VMC (optical illusion with lights in the distance at an angle) that I was wondering if the gauges were working correctly. I momentarily disengaged the autopilot to make sure the gauges were moving as they should and ended up with a map to cover up part of the windshield till I passed that road. If I didn't have IFR training, I would have screwed that one up... it's so hard to trust the gauges over the "natural" horizon. There are several spots over the US that even in CAVU weather, it feels like IMC when it's dark out.

and even worse, I've never gotten the advertised pot life (but I've always operated at the higher end of the temperature range).
