New airplane.... what am I missing?????
goodyFAB replied to AJ88V's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
my rocket seems to use pads too, 100hrs they are done and its possible to kill them in 70 as I did my first year. when the mid body rocket is heavy the brakes are entirely inadequate for an emergency stop or anything like that. I would imagine a long body would be even worse. go and get in a Cessna and apply the same pressure everything in the plane moves forward !!! -

I see, I was thinking "that's more than I thought to replace oxygen bottle". sometimes the mind sees what it wants lol -

Yeah almost certain I’ve seen it in my wing too. M20k serial 150 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

im looking for seat parts or complete seats -
i'm surprised you are firm on this. there are some extremely skilled engine builders who have dedicated their life to their craft with an extremely high success rate. theres a huge variation of quality of work, but the factory does not necessarily produce the best engine every-time. i mean no disrespect.

Hmmm seems odd- laser cut guides with no team or hone? As a fabricator/machinist that seems insane. No ream? No sizing? Laser cut and go? how does a good valve job eliminate roto-coils ? RAM uses either a nickel overhauled CMI CYLINDER . Or a superior millennium. mom not impressed with superior. I don’t know if cmi would be better.
-
RAM has been a great wealth of information since this engine is literally plucked from a 340 and transplanted onto the m20k ram also has some really good options for replacement. RAMs legendary engine is a long lead time ( over 6 months) but their value time with nickel cylinders is attractive in price and lead time. still waiting to talk to their service department about topping said engine.

yes sir , single turbo on the tsio520. the log manifold on the tsio520 is not the best @ LOP operations. I am aware of the 550's differences, i meant similar in the sense of the cylinders are essentially manufactured the same, similar overhaul times, and therefore maybe similar enough to compare to ? maybe not- they are twin turbo and the tsio550 tuned manifold does an amazing job allowing LOP operations, i believe your correct that LOP operations may be kinder since the 550's seem to "go further". after asking around with some well respected engine shops more than a couple times now ive been told the TSIO520 is the kind of powerplant that requires a top or so to get to TBO. i was just curious how other operators handle top overhauls since the internet is full of "failure after top overhauls", and mike busch has published content basically saying you should never do a top overhaul. i am thinking CMI has fixed their cylinder issues and a balanced pack from the factory would be the preferred cylinders. thanks!

Good evening everyone ! I am hoping to hear from fellow Mooney operator / owners. specifically, operators of big bore continentals. tsio520’s- or similar. I’m looking for real life feedback from other operators that can share their experiences with cylinder life and top overhauls. How long do you expect to get out of a set of cylinders ? Time in service ? How long have you gotten before needing cylinders ? What symptoms made you remove cylinders ? Is it common to do a top overhaul on such engines ? As an owner/operator how do mitigate the risk associated with choosing the right shop to perform a top overhaul? My inquiry would only apply to map turbo systems, which produce the same boost at sea level or at the service ceiling. Not turbo normalized engines which have a much easier life. finally, can you share your experience with top overhauls ? Thank you -

I got my ppl in Cherokees, then went on to the 172 and a piper Dakota 235. then I moved into the complex mooney. don't rush your transition into the mooney. I would spend time here learning about the different models and I would really figure out what your mission is. once you have that figured out, then start to really think about operating costs. owning your own aircraft may be more expensive than you think. everyone has their own opinion on which plane to buy and how to go about upgrades the bottom line is you need to do what works for you. a high performance, turbo, tks mooney is gonna be a lot more to maintain & operate than a J model. if its your forever plane buy as much as you can. if you think your moving on soon or just building time buy the most economical, capable plane you can afford.

I dont like giving advice without seeing it for myself. It seems logical that the right is getting stuck as you mentioned the plane turned right. It’s worth having it looked at I can’t think of a more embarrassing way to have an incident.

Sounds like you need a rebuild of the calipers. pull calipers and take the piston out, inspect, clean, replace oring. Bleed brakes

There’s a couple odd ball thickness on my cowl, I’d buy a few extra or do some measuring as others have stated now is the time to go stainless !

Where you planning on it taking 3 months to install the avionics ? I’m amazed at how long shops take to do this kind of work… this is my biggest fear, i want to go in for a similar setup to yours but I don’t wanna be down so long.

Anybody try xAttitude app for your ipad/iphone?
goodyFAB replied to Will.iam's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Exactly. Get in the habit of setting/zeroing the stratus before take off. Also, make certain it’s mounted solid. in my tests the stratus is extremely accurate. On my to do list is to permanently mount it, any mount that moves or a suction mount can easily lose its orientation. -

curious , how many hours on that airframe ? my plane has 27xx hours on the airframe and the exhaust cover panels are pretty beat up too, do a buyer assisted annual and its the first thing you learn that the panels are far from perfect, it takes some finagling to get things to fit decent. ive seen that piece of aluminum that the gear rods cracked on the couple Mooney I looked at, they are super thin, and they are not structural. good luck in your search, getting intimate with airplanes is a time consuming adventure, do what you can to find major issues, the small ones will be found after you own it no matter what.
