  1. i dont have a bravo, but i have a rocket. that seems odd. i sometimes i want more heat near my feet i take my checklist and drop it in front of the floor vent and it pushes heat to both sides of plane. most of the time its too warm. -20 is never a problem. i would check your mixing box, and your shrouds for leaks. the only time i sometimes lose heat is when its really cold and i dont keep enough power in on descent.
  2. that had to be a few minutes of thinking pretty hard don!
  3. ahhhh thats too bad. I wonder how bad the damage is. either way insurance will prob scrap it if that prop hit which I imagine it would. since I joined this website I have been so diligent about gear down I must check it at least 3x it starts and ends my landing checklist and then I check again for good measure.
  4. amazing. you would think you might notice that if your "proficient".
  5. i own a rocket. what don kaye is probably more accurate than we want to believe. here is an example not including any upgrades, squawks, or oil changes: annual inspection* call it 5k (the guys posting about cheap annuals are not doing what is supposed to be done unless they are doing the work themselves i would have concerns. just the time is takes to remove and re install the inspection panels properly and actually inspect is more than you would think until you do it.) hangar 5.5k insurance 4.2k 100 hrs fuel 11.4k now add the things that come up both expected and not. its easy to exceed dons number. new planes, planes that have sat, all require playing "catch up" im sure the cost of owning eventually starts to go down. people often ask "does it make financial sense to own?" and the answer will always be the same... probably not.
  6. i recently topped my tsio520. why are you topping your engine ? do you have excess crankcase pressure ? oil on the belly ? or just burning some oil? thats well within limits if there was not contributing factors. there is a ton of options to decrease oil consumption before the top. with that being said, theae things get topped every day. use an a&p thats capable and follows directions. follow the manufacturers guidelines with no exceptions and you will be fine. i found this was the time to do lifters, rockers, gaskets, hardware, and just about everything old and rubber. turns into quite the adventure.
  7. im not arguing but as a rocket owner i can tell you that 100lbs on the horizontal will put the tail toward the ground.
  8. I live on a 2000' runway, on this no wind days and 90* x wind days id roll into a river !!!
  9. my rocket seems to use pads too, 100hrs they are done and its possible to kill them in 70 as I did my first year. when the mid body rocket is heavy the brakes are entirely inadequate for an emergency stop or anything like that. I would imagine a long body would be even worse. go and get in a Cessna and apply the same pressure everything in the plane moves forward !!!
  10. I see, I was thinking "that's more than I thought to replace oxygen bottle". sometimes the mind sees what it wants lol
  11. Yeah almost certain I’ve seen it in my wing too. M20k serial 150 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. im looking for seat parts or complete seats
  13. my k is a century 41 pilot wing, aileron bell crank
  14. i'm surprised you are firm on this. there are some extremely skilled engine builders who have dedicated their life to their craft with an extremely high success rate. theres a huge variation of quality of work, but the factory does not necessarily produce the best engine every-time. i mean no disrespect.
  15. Who does cylinder work like that? maybe drop shipping a set of cylinders makes sense !
  16. Hmmm seems odd- laser cut guides with no team or hone? As a fabricator/machinist that seems insane. No ream? No sizing? Laser cut and go? how does a good valve job eliminate roto-coils ? RAM uses either a nickel overhauled CMI CYLINDER . Or a superior millennium. mom not impressed with superior. I don’t know if cmi would be better.
  17. The procedure would be to top overhaul… theres a lot of information out there that points to catastrophic failure after cylinder replacement.
  18. RAM has been a great wealth of information since this engine is literally plucked from a 340 and transplanted onto the m20k ram also has some really good options for replacement. RAMs legendary engine is a long lead time ( over 6 months) but their value time with nickel cylinders is attractive in price and lead time. still waiting to talk to their service department about topping said engine.
  19. That’s interesting , what is wrong with the continental valve guides ? good points made !
  20. yes sir , single turbo on the tsio520. the log manifold on the tsio520 is not the best @ LOP operations. I am aware of the 550's differences, i meant similar in the sense of the cylinders are essentially manufactured the same, similar overhaul times, and therefore maybe similar enough to compare to ? maybe not- they are twin turbo and the tsio550 tuned manifold does an amazing job allowing LOP operations, i believe your correct that LOP operations may be kinder since the 550's seem to "go further". after asking around with some well respected engine shops more than a couple times now ive been told the TSIO520 is the kind of powerplant that requires a top or so to get to TBO. i was just curious how other operators handle top overhauls since the internet is full of "failure after top overhauls", and mike busch has published content basically saying you should never do a top overhaul. i am thinking CMI has fixed their cylinder issues and a balanced pack from the factory would be the preferred cylinders. thanks!
  21. The rocket conversion does , quite a few rocket guys on MS. The 550 in the acclaim is very similar. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. Thanks ! Seems like the more I look into it, the tsio520 uses cylinders. the lycomings seem to go much further on cylinders than the bb continentals. curious about other owners- then again, not many moneys use the turbo continental.
  23. Good evening everyone ! I am hoping to hear from fellow Mooney operator / owners. specifically, operators of big bore continentals. tsio520’s- or similar. I’m looking for real life feedback from other operators that can share their experiences with cylinder life and top overhauls. How long do you expect to get out of a set of cylinders ? Time in service ? How long have you gotten before needing cylinders ? What symptoms made you remove cylinders ? Is it common to do a top overhaul on such engines ? As an owner/operator how do mitigate the risk associated with choosing the right shop to perform a top overhaul? My inquiry would only apply to map turbo systems, which produce the same boost at sea level or at the service ceiling. Not turbo normalized engines which have a much easier life. finally, can you share your experience with top overhauls ? Thank you -
