Anybody try xAttitude app for your ipad/iphone?
goodyFAB replied to Will.iam's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Exactly. Get in the habit of setting/zeroing the stratus before take off. Also, make certain it’s mounted solid. in my tests the stratus is extremely accurate. On my to do list is to permanently mount it, any mount that moves or a suction mount can easily lose its orientation. -
M20J NLG Repairs & Firewall Sheetmetal
goodyFAB replied to Futches's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
curious , how many hours on that airframe ? my plane has 27xx hours on the airframe and the exhaust cover panels are pretty beat up too, do a buyer assisted annual and its the first thing you learn that the panels are far from perfect, it takes some finagling to get things to fit decent. ive seen that piece of aluminum that the gear rods cracked on the couple Mooney I looked at, they are super thin, and they are not structural. good luck in your search, getting intimate with airplanes is a time consuming adventure, do what you can to find major issues, the small ones will be found after you own it no matter what. -
Gi275’s vs Aspen Pro Max User Experience
goodyFAB replied to 802flyer's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
is this true for the gnx355 as well ? ive been thinking of using that with the 750 as my backup and get the x ponder in one. but It seems to make way more sense suck it up and go 650 right off the bat. avionics decisions are brutal. -
I am starting the process of looking for a shop to perform some avionics upgrades for my aging panel. I am quickly learning that is easier said than done. Originally I wanted to explore the Dynon stuff but I haven't even been able to get a return phone call or email from the shop who Dynon recommended. I also don't think its wise to buy Dynon and hope the autopilot get approved. I have been thinking long and hard about this upgrade and the budget. I've settled on a Garmin nav/comm/mfd, a couple gi275's to relieve the vacuum system, transponder and a new audio panel. I plan on keeping the old century auto pilot until the day comes that it must be replaced. This will give me some time to fly the plane, and be ready for the next round (that's when ill plan to do the autopilot and upgrade the engine monitors. I want to buy equipment that will supported for the future. This brings me to my question for MS, does anyone have any recommendations on avionics shops familiar with Mooneys on the east coast ? im in southern CT. I am not opposed to flying to a good shop but I also think it may make sense to support a local shop when the "issues" arise. It seems more than a few people fly to Florida for avionics. I am not 100% opposed to this, I just wonder how much sense that makes should you have problems with the equipment, what kind of support will you receive when the shop I bring it to didn't install it. anyone have experience in doing this recently ? what is a reasonable amount of time to lay the plane up for an upgrade like I mentioned ? I want to avoid having my plane laid up for a long time or a bad experience. I appreciate any input

I just updated a KLN94 with windows 11. I had to download an older set of drivers for the serial adapter but worked fine.

I can't wait to see what you choose ! I am certain there's a hell of a plane out there for you just waiting. the J seems out of place on your list as it is way outclassed by your other options. I think you forgot a couple options. Here's my unsolicited $.02 opinion on the mid body K model Rocket I fly. The budget you mention can easily buy a rocket or a missile and have the interior completely done, and some avionics upgrade and still have dollars left over while giving you TKS, turbo, and enough room to make trips work. Although not a long body, The mid body plane is still plenty big, im 5'11, I have had a couple 6' tall passengers and nobody is complaining about leg room. The pedals in the mooney are so far forward that the pilot / co pilot seats are far enough forward there's more than enough room in back. I could not afford a long body so I have no idea how much more roomy they are but I can't say room is an issue in my k model mooney. I have a rocket with TKS, oxygen, Monroy tanks, and speed brakes and still have a 1000lb UL. if you shop for a rocket or missile it is very important you find one with a good UL as I have seen some with very low UL and it is my understanding the 3200lb gw STC is no longer available ( I could be wrong , but worth noting). Performance in a rocket is impressive, for ex: full gross today I can still climb at 1550fpm. you can plan for 200kts. I have not found the TKS to slow the plane down 5% ...maybe 5kts. The step is removed on my K and that may help speed but I think 5% decrease in speed is an exaggeration or the plane isn't rigged properly. You definitely do not need the turbo on the east coast, but flying a turbo has really been eye opening. Its something else to have the climbing ability no matter the elevation or DA. I imagine the missile with the IO550 is a beast at sea level too, but I can offer no opinion as I have no experience. Another thing I love about the rocket engineering rocket (or missile) is the full feathering prop. should you have an engine out you can glide 16-1 or better, that makes me feel good to extend a glide. its a substantial difference to a non feathering prop. granted, this becomes less of a thing when you have an engine out on take off or landing but at altitude being able to glide 40-60 miles is worth mentioning. Its worth mentioning this is also the reason the rocket has a forward CG, playing with weight and bal if I mounted an MT prop my plane would become even more versatile but I would lose the feathering prop. good luck in your plane search, I thought it Worth mentioning the rocket engineering Mooneys as they are out there at a relative bargain and I've seen quite a few with TKS... what mooney performs like a rocket or missile dollar for dollar ?

You know it’s bad when the manufacturer of the service can’t replace what they lost???? that’s insane

i'll edit it , I think I was a little distracted when I wrote that. my point is , me personally, I would feel more comfortable financing (yes with a loan) an engine before I financed the entire cost of an airplane. A large airplane loan will suck up a ton of cash flow, that's the operating cash I use to go places, do things, maintain the plane and etc. everyone has a different financial situation, every situation is unique and every person has a different tolerance for risk, i'm not a financial advisor but I feel just as safe with my money sitting in a boat or airplane I know will appreciate if maintained properly as I do with the money in the bank. insure the asset properly and should the worse case play out there's a good chance you will get more than your initial investment back.
-
I am nowhere near retiring, with that said whether its a boat or plane, same thing to me, I figure out how to buy them in cash. I treat the purchase of a boat or plane like the acquisition of an asset. I don't over pay for them, I don't give them away when its time to sell. I insure them properly. Yes! they cost me money, but I have never had one depreciate on me. (because I would never overpay for one) I'm not buying new, I'm looking, educating myself on the market, preparing to make a move, and when the opportunity arises I move quickly and decisively. So far this has worked for me. As others have said I don't find the acquisition to be the expensive part, its the operating costs that can be big sometimes. i'll finance an engine for a plane before I tie up that kind of monthly cash flow paying for an airplane loan. Not having a loan also makes selling easier. then again, what do I know? i'm just a working stiff who like expensive toys ... final thought, I'm also not buying a million dollar aircraft, I buy within my means. if I was in a position where I had access to a loan with an attractive rate I would certainly utilize my credit. Every situation is different. there's more than one way to do it.

just wanted to follow up with you guys, no fuel leaks found.. however , a good plugging in on the reiffe engine heater and its alleviated all my starting issues. when cold, this engine loves fuel. -
I would take either , but I think the 1.5" will allow me one seat notch back which would make me happy.
-
I will take them
-
I've got no extensions, and @5'11" I got the seat all the way forward to stop the plane !!!
-
If anyone has a set of pedal extensions they can part with please let me know thanks !

goodyFAB replied to chriscalandro's topic in General Mooney Talk
In the instance I commented on, your saying it’s not a lot of liability to copy someone else’s engineered spar cap and sell them without a pma ? yeah ok, let someone kill themself and a lawyer get ahold of that. -

Wow, crazy someone would take on that liability. Nvm the fact that it’s a crummy move. -

I'm confused according to the faa the company produced parts to sell to owners as "owner approved parts" how would it make sense that the company opened this can of worms? -
