  1. I'm just not getting that "warm and fuzzy" feeling with 5-1/2 quarts.
  2. I've seen the Skylane RG I used to fly "wick" oil up the dipstick but this read 2 qts low so I added 2 and next it showed 9. Now, after yesterdays flight it shows 5-1/2. I think it's still in there. I hate to fly it tomorrow showing 5-1/2 but I don't want to add any because I think theres 9 in there somewhere.
  3. So I checked the oil level in the Ovation and it said it was low. I couldn't explain that but I added oil. Next flight was an hour or so. After that flight but before the next flight I checked it and it was on 9. (I try to run 7.) I made another 1 hour flight. Before the next flight it was still on 9. Yesterday another 1 hour flight and now it says 5. On yesterdays flight the oil pressure and temperature were exactly where you thought it should be. Somethings going on but I don't know what. I tried doing a search on here but got no hits. I thought I read a thread on here one time about a guy having similar problems. Maybe an oil relief valve or something? Thanks for your help.
  4. An E would work, but those flights with more people kinda sounds more like an F. You said the J's seem overpriced. It's been that way for at least 40 years that I know of. It's kinda like buying a used Honda Accord. When you have a walk-on-water reputation the price is gonna be high. But for good reason.
  5. I like it. I too can't trust a jacks hydraulics to hold an airplane up. Or a collar with a set screw on a pipe. I trust threads. Job well done.
  6. I thought Lone Mountain was a MSC there?
  7. That's what I was thinking. I have a lathe and could machine a receptacle in the top of the screw. For less than $100 it seems worth a try.
  8. It looks like the top of the jack is a cup shape. The Mooney jack points look pointed. Do you use an adapter on those? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks
  9. Thank you. Does the nose use the same item?
  10. Where do you buy the jack pads to screw in the wings?
  11. I can remove anything. It's putting it back on that causes me problems.
  12. What about this one? https://www.amazon.com/Mophorn-V-Head-Adjustable-Folding-Portable/dp/B07HNLGJMZ/ref=pd_bxgy_vft_med_sccl_1/140-5214894-7043609?pd_rd_w=yt8kV&content-id=amzn1.sym.26a5c67f-1a30-486b-bb90-b523ad38d5a0&pf_rd_p=26a5c67f-1a30-486b-bb90-b523ad38d5a0&pf_rd_r=VW8HTDDH65RF8JCS2M5N&pd_rd_wg=gxdNh&pd_rd_r=889f66b6-4459-4f7b-91f1-75c09059cd27&pd_rd_i=B07HNLGJMZ&psc=1
  13. I'm a turbohead. I've had a M20F, 231 and an Ovation. But in your application I would buy the best 201 I could afford and you could easily end up enjoying it for the rest of your life. It has a great combination of everything. Efficient, lowest maintenance, great engine. You will be very happy. (When I was younger I had a TH-55. Those were good times.) Enjoy the trip.
  14. I had that problem at North Las Vegas once and there was a guy on the field that fixed it. But that was many years ago. Maybe there is still someone there that can fix it for you. Call around to the FBO's at KVGT.
  15. This is a great video on changing oil in an Ovation. He shows you how to he removes the cowling by himself.
  16. I've heard those horror stories, but when I landed there one summer they treated me like a King. Put my airplane under covered parking and didn't charge me anything. I guess I just got lucky.
  17. If they build new Mooneys they won't be cheap. But that's ok. Rich folks can buy them and we can wait around for used ones. I just want them to be able to stay around. More Mooneys and Bonanzas are being lost to wrecks/tornados/hurricanes than are being built. Enjoy your airplane and take care of it. Someday there won't be many left. Like warbirds. One thing that is hurting us is low volume. (No assembly line volume.) They make so few it's like buying anything one-off and handmade. Expensive. There was a time when they were selling more. Around 1969 I went to the local Mooney dealer in Long Beach for their new model reveal/open house. I sat in all of them. I remember the Statesman and the Chaparral. The window sticker was $25,000. Expensive. But wow, then you could fly places. Magical.
  18. I think you want dual GPS NAV/COM. There should be some bargains out there on 530W/430W takeouts. There are many advantages. I leave the 430 on the nearest screen. If the engine quits I can look down and instantly see which way to turn to the nearest airport.
  19. When Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys his Lear 35 took over as a taxi cab moving people around. It landed in rural Alabama I believe, at dusk, hitting a deer at touchdown. He goes full reverse of course. Then things got strange. The deer had sheared off the squat switch so the airplane thinks it's in the air and the reversers wouldn't deploy. This left the engines wide open going forward. The pilot, I think his name was Eddie, is trying to slow down but the airplane is speeding up. A terrible crash resulted. Hitting a deer with an airplane is a very bad thing. It's hard to protect ourselves. We are looking at the runway environment for hazards and deer run across the runway perpendicular so we can't see them until it's too late. I'm glad your story didn't have a bad ending.
  20. Thank you. I've never done a prop change so drastic.
  21. As you know Ovations are nose heavy. So my W&B is always around the forward CG. I was thinking about the MT prop. It sure would take a lot of weight off the nose, in the perfect spot. I've never made a prop change this drastic. Would the installer use my present W&B and calculate a new one? I'm sure he isn't set up to do a new W&B, altho I would like to have this done sometime soon. (I want to get rid of some old avionics first.) Thanks
  22. You can. But when you buy it and call the insurance company you want the qualifications in your billfold so they won't ask as many questions.
  23. A complex doesn't require solo time unless something has changed. Bear in mind we are talking about 2 different things here. #1 Legal to fly a complex airplane. (The easy part.) #2 Satisfying the insurance company.
  24. Whoever told you that....I don't know what to say. Go get your complex. When you find an airplane, you can call the insurance company and they will tell you what they need. Price matters. If it's a $50,000 C, they might ask for a 2 hour checkout? Some insurance companies are easy to deal with. If it's a new million dollar Acclaim, they will ask for more. If you call for insurance and don't have a complex, that's going to open another can of worms and they are going to have to research it and see what they need to ask for since you can't even fly it home legally.
