I am in KLNA and wouldn't mind a meetup. I am working with Alain AP/IA out of KLNA 786-660-3447 he is very reasonable and knows his Mooneys I was quizzing him the other day he knew the differences between models and was aware of a lot quirks about the planes. Also when getting estimates Avionics shop wanted 65 hours to do an engine monitor vs Alain 30 hours. He actually cares about keeping you in the air not only financially but also squeezes me in between jobs if its grounding my plane
-
PM’d how many hours are on it? Is that a 3?
-
Nice you did single CGR 30p and looks like fuel level below what is that?
-
Thanks for the offer, after much consideration and pricing I decided to stay old school until I redo my panel with something like the CGR combo. I need to learn and find someone to let me diy. Install costs are just too much for my vintage bird. Do you care to share some pictures of your CGR setup.

No doubt digital is more accurate and will be used to fly the numbers. But I have not seen a digital unit last 50 years especially in a plane. Gem 602 failed after 20 years, read about several screens from Garmin, Ei, jpi going blank and needing service. Also having Tomato Flames backed up I should be less likely to be grounded. With the chip shortage going on you might be waiting several months for replacements. If anyone cares I can explain the chip shortage. The chips used in cars at least are based on iPhone 1 technology and are produced in low cost countries. Automotive due to liability, proven technology and certification does not want to switch to the new microchip architecture. The US is perfectly capable to produce it but nobody wants to build an expensive factory to produce outdated tech that will be obsolete in the next decade. I am not certain what chips Garmin uses but EI and JPI use pretty old tech. Also I will continue to use the mechanical tach hours for maintenance and plane value.

Greetings, Does anyone have a shop that repairs mechanical tachs? I am upgrading to the CGR 30c which will display RPM MP and such, however I would like to keep the old mechanical one as backup and don't want to spend 1k for a new one. My generator just went out and I would like to keep my mechanical gauges for just in case. I will fly the G2 with CGR 30c. The G2 already saved me a headache by showing red voltage 11.7 instead of the usual 14 in red. My old AMP gauge always hovers around 0 and barely moves the low voltage light did not come on either, I would have not noticed. Reset breaker, reset master cranked up RPM still nothing. Love the modern engine monitors accuracy and announciators but there is also something to be said about the 50 year old gauges just starting to fail.

To give you an idea about the spartan look I am in the same boat. Currently trying to figure a cost efficient way to not scare the hell out of passengers when they get into the ship. Doing some upgrades and my panel is a cluster .... For now I will just trace the panel onto a piece of something not sure if plastic or aluminum cut it out and overlay for now. You can paint or wrap it with some sort of fancy carbon. I will post picture after upgrade.

Greetings, does anybody know the shunt specs for a 66 M20E. I looked through the forum but only found values for 67 and up. Of course the 66 its own electrical diagram with hieroglyphic part numbers: #105918 Figure 50F I know we can measure it, however I am just filling out the order form for the CGR 30c Thanks

Find a good mechanic and buy him a beer. Where are you located? (NVM its in your signature, not in your profile) I am a recently minted airplane owner too. The best thing you can do is find a good mechanic shop, the flying community so far has been extremely friendly and helpful. I spend lots of time on Mooneyspace, read Fly the Engine, currently working through Mike Bush on Engines. As much as I learn and have a background working on cars, my mechanic always points out things I did not think of. And he has the Mike Bush mentality don't fix if it ain't broke, but keep an eye on it. Most people at the local airport mechanics, pilots, etc love what they do and talk about it approach them and make some friends.

(South Florida) Hamburger run anyone? Looking to fly a Mooney
MMsuper21 replied to eMahle's topic in Florida Mooney Flyers
If it wasn't for the COVIDs I would take you up in my M20E far cry from Acclaim but closer to J?. Wouldn't mind meeting you guys at the hamburger shop as long as it's outside For shops just had some more work done by Alain 786-660-3447 at KLNA (Independent AP/IA). Really growing fond of his work and knowledge while being very reasonable. -
Opinions wanted! CGR-30 P & C versus EDM 900

Thanks when I tried to get it on your website it was not working. -
Opinions wanted! CGR-30 P & C versus EDM 900
MMsuper21 replied to RDuplechin's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
That’s great news. I read previously only the 30P can do rpm and MP. So the 30c can replace RPM/MP, Oil temp, Oil Pressure, L fuel, R fuel, and AMPs? I wanted the CGR combo but after install I was looking at 12k. Since I already had the insight gem 602 I got a good deal on the G2 and all is needed is the ground change reusing everything else. (Fuel Flow will be added during annual) Now I can get rid of the primary (steam gauge engine needles) with the 30c with no panel work. -
It's scary always ask and try to be present, just started my ownership journey but have lots of experience with cars. I called a shop today in Florida PM me I will let you know which one. The guy answering the phone did not know what a Mooney was, first red flag. I asked to speak with the mechanic since the shop was mentioned on MS and asked if they worked on Mooney's with a strong answer Yes we do. I followed up asking if they swing the gear and if they have installed the nose truss spacer kit. No they haven't heard of it, but they are happy to work on my Mooney. In these unprecedented times people cut corners and seek out the first available mechanic. Do your research and talk to your mechanic I get concerned if I know more than my mechanic. If I am not around I ask for them to take pictures of the work, for resources and procedures online, I am lucky to have access to the previous shop that worked on the Mooney to bounce of questions and concerns. Trust but verify.

I thought this was a Mooney trademark feature. Mine looks like this. We checked for leaks and replaced cork gaskets which were off center... with orange ones and the oil drain tubes. Cleaned engine and did oil change. AP put little over 8 qts, so I expect some fallout till I reach my happy 6 qts.

New, to me, Ovation! Where to tie down in SE Florida?
MMsuper21 replied to SalMCFI's topic in Florida Mooney Flyers
I park at KLNA it’s tie down but $110 a month. Assuming from car ownership keeping her waxed, applying detailer between waxes, combined with a cover will help with sun damage. Nice thing about KLNA is you have Sarasota Avionics’s, Prop shop and Alain AP IA on the field. -
JPI wants their instruments grounded to the engine. So did the old GEM 602. But the G series is to the airframe hence not a plug and play.
-
So the aluminum would be considered airframe and could be used for ground?
-
Thanks in advance. Upgrading the GEM 602 to a G2. Since the shops are backed up for a few months I would like to just install the G2 with the existing probes.Replacing probes and FF when my shop has time. I checked there is enough wiring left to reach the shorter G2 thanks MS for the heads up. The instruction manual mentioned that if the GEM 602 was grounded to the engine it is critical to be grounded to the airframe otherwise they will void warranty. 1. How do I tell what the original is grounded to the airframe or engine? 2. I see some cables being ground to the instrument panel frame. (Forgot who mentioned it but said that the panel is grounded to frame and engine) 3. Where do I run the ground to the airframe. Looking at the electrical system diagram is see the grounds but not what they are ground to. IMG_0476.HEIC

Agree, my thought process is this would be good for transition training or beginner pilots. Yes I am a noob pilot. Aka keep her 1 foot off the ground till she settles. Having a temporary gadget till it’s engrained and then pass it on. I will hold off and see how much better I will get after the MAPA PPP in January. Many Thanks

In this months EAA Sport aviation issue I came across the Stadia. I was looking into the https://LandingHeight.com (MicroKit) but 2 AMU (with install) vs the Stratus version (.5 AMU), this might be interesting. Anyone have any experience with the Stadia? https://skeeterenterprises.com/stadia-1

If by a holiday miracle I get the G2 installed before Thanksgiving I will give it to my father in law who lives in Chicago and he can possibly drop it off (He got a long ez, I am the owner of his M20E now) or at least save you some on shipping. Otherwise I will let you know when it's out.
-
Thank you everyone! After doing some more reading, and going through the install docs I decided to do the Insight G2 for now, since she already has the GEM 602 that just died, to keep the cost low. And decide what to do next after flying some more and attending the MAPA PPP this January, meet some owners see some panels etc. I really want the GI 275 but that opens a can of worms panel work and maybe I should just upgrade to G3X what about autopilot, uh there is the Dynon SkyView... Question becomes will this be a forever plane and get a second one down the line with 6 seats. Thanks again this is a great community and I hope to start giving back once I gain some more experience.

It’s my first plane project and would like someone to watch over my shoulder for the first time. Probably a bit more than just sign off. Warning tangent: I build computers, tuned and build cars motorcycles, engineer by education. I learned have somebody competent around for the first few rounds. I would love to have a hands on course for Mooney owners this is how to take apart your cowling, check spark plugs, soak injectors, change oil , tires, etc. Even if you don’t do the work knowing how to verify your APs work and ask the right questions. (If there is interest I wouldn’t mind organizing one) I am so particular with my cars I would not take it to shops because they never did things up to my standards, and with today’s AP workloads things get rushed. Many Thanks
