Does anyone have an outboard fuel sender they aren't using? I'm chasing an intermittent fuel issue and now they think it's the outboard sender... Thanks Scott

First real annual / inspection post acquisition
Scott Ashton replied to SilentT's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I actually had to swap out my encoding altimeter for a different PN to use when I installed my KAS298 preselect…I have the old one in my office and can check the PN for you in the morning and let you know…what SN is your J? Mine is an 85 and I have 1533…. -
Oxygen bottle replacement
Scott Ashton replied to PprophetBirdman's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
A 3HT cylinder is tested every three years with a 24 year life and a 3AA cylinder is five years with an unlimited life. Kevlar wrapped cylinders are a five year hydro interval with a 15 year life limit. Life limits are taken from the DOM, not the date of install…. Scott -

Dry ice is haz mat and dangerous goods, and is higHly regulated for transport. I wouldn’t mess with it…. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/subtitle-B/chapter-I/subchapter-C/part-173/subpart-E/section-173.217?OR=OfficeMobile

Where is the “Ice Hole” on the Ovation breather tube??
Scott Ashton replied to William Munney's topic in Ovation Owners
re: going up the breather tube, when I went to depart on Friday for MooneySummit, with I pulled on the tube to remove it, it separated inside the tube at one of the joints. Not far enough where I couldn’t get it with a pair of needle nose, but enough to end that practice and putting it into the oil fill tube from now on! -

Scott Ashton replied to William Munney's topic in Ovation Owners
I have the same one - on the IO360 it’s quite a ways up the tube and you have to give the supply tube a good shove to get up past the ice hole. I have the tube marked so I know how far to put it - I did that when I changed the oil. Buy a few jugs of dessicant in order to swap it out when it’s turns pink, so you can bake the used stuff at your leisure. baking the dessicant is a pain. I probably should have gone for the Drybot instead. Those guys were in the booth next to me at Oshkosh for the last two or three years and it’s a nice product. -
The bleed valve is handy because there is a lot of pressure behind the nut and it will be very hard to loosen with 2000 psi behind it. You can crack the nut and bleed it out that way, its just that the bleed valve makes it a little more "elegant". Definitely do a two-cylinder cascade. Since you can only fill to equilibrium, it makes your cylinder utilization go much further. The regulator is handy because it will keep you from overfilling - but not necessary if you are careful. Make sure you have the supply cylinders either chained to the wall or secured in a rack. Fill slowly - about 200psi per minute. It should take you about 10 minutes to fill a cylinder if you are doing it at the right pace. Otherwise you will heat the cylinder you are filling up. At OSH we fill about 20-30 cylinders with two ABO supply tanks and usually have some left over, so it should last you a while... If you have any trepidation, have a mechanic or someone on the field who has done it before show you the setup. If you decide to get a transfill setup give me a call and we'll get you a discount code. Scott

I’ve done 6.5 hrs a few times (in a sling and in a 182 several times) I was hoping to get naples-Cleveland non stop - or at least have the option to…but a stop is fine… Florida is a very long state and naples is way down there so I lose two hours just getting to state line…

Just curious what M20J drivers are flight planning for the max IFR range in the real world with standard tanks.... 750NM +/-? Scott

I'll be there all week in Hangar A....Flying commercial on Sunday out of PGD (ugh!) but if anyone is headed to SWFL maybe Saturday and wants a CFII copilot, there might be a free oxygen system as part of the deal for the ride home!

Naples list is much smaller too, and I just got a call from KIMM after two years that my name came up there also. I also think a lot of people had their name on every list in the area. i think it coincides with the end of the Covid boom regionally here. I’m just not sure it’s just a local phenomenon or something systemic. I am looking for a boat slip and there are a lot more in Marco than there were last year. i heard something like between 40% and 60% of the cirrus backlog is to “concept buyers” who havent finished their training. I’m really waiting to see what happens with those buyers and if they actually take delivery. Mike Riegel had an interesting analysis of 1Q biz jet deliveries and backlogs and basically said without fractional demand, new deliveries are really starting to take a hit. we’ll see and maybe bonus depreciation will help stop the slide….

FAA CARES: block ownership info on aircraft registry portal
Scott Ashton replied to shawnd's topic in General Mooney Talk
Yeah I’m sure flight aware is keeping a database now to cross reference their registration data for as long as they can….at least if someone (Vector) is just pulling a current database file from the FAA it won’t be there. -
FAA CARES: block ownership info on aircraft registry portal
Scott Ashton replied to shawnd's topic in General Mooney Talk
I submitted my letter to the FAA for blocking my registration when this thread started and I just checked the FAA website and my aircraft ownership information is now blocked, so it only took a few weeks for them to complete it. -
Anyone up for meeting for breakfast somewhere in central Florida tomorrow morning? Scott
-
Dan at Sarasota Avionics in VNC takes care of my 201. His team does a great job.
-
@Patrick Horan how is the airplane running now? Is it out of the shop?

I flew out of HFD for decades and now have a 201 at APF….if you are still down here I’m happy to show her off to you…

Proposed Modification to RSW Airspace
Scott Ashton replied to Paul Thomas's topic in Florida Mooney Flyers
Boy a vfr corridor across the midfield of 6-24 would be great…. -
Patrick, just a crazy idea, but swap the oft and right probes, wires, everything on one probe on the left and one on the right and see if the temps are reading accurately. If you move your #5 probe/wiring over to #6 and vice versa. If #5 (which is now in the #6 cylinder ) stays hot, then you have a measuring issue. did you verify you have the right injectors installed on that side? Maybe something got missed there and they aren’t flying right. you checked the induction system already for leaks, if I recall, right? At low power cruise, full rich, are the temps more even? If so that probable eliminates a probe offset/bias issue….does the spread increase only as you start to lean? what happens when you lean at say, 55% power, are you getting the same high temps in the CHT? i hope you figure out out and it’s something simple… don’t get discouraged. No matter how good the airplane, your first two years is full of surprises. By the time you get it perfectly right exactly how you want it, you’ll be itching for an Acclaim.
-
I ended up replacing the cap and harness too so I basically had a new ignition system, including an exchange mag, condensers, etc. Never figured out the issue unfortunately.
-
I just reserved N10XY for mine.... New paint and new number next year...
-
Give me a call anytime. We just got them in stock….you probably will want the regulator to get at least a functional check. Yes, the Kevlar cylinders have a 15 year life…. also get on the Dave and Ruth’s email list for the monthly fly outs for lunch, and the PPP is at LAL in January…..hope to see you at one of these.
