  1. I put a Milwaukee M18 battery powered fan either on the right side floorboard or backseat and it blows a ton of air which helps, especially during taxi.
  2. It all depends on your wallet. Personally, I would not install a G5. While the G5 is nice, I would personally either just overhaul your AI or spend the extra money and get a GI275 because you get a ton of extra functionality with the 275 that you don't get with the G5.
  3. You're welcome! You could always replace the existing bulb with an LED. That's what I had my avionics shop do when I replaced my panel recently.
  4. My 69 E has a light on the bottom of the throttle quadrant that shines on the flap / trim indicator. It's connected to the dimmer knob on the panel.
  5. Bladders would add some value in my opinion. In fact, a friend of mine and I both just had bladders installed and in his case it added fuel capacity. At some point, most Mooneys are going to need either a tank reseal or bladders. There are plenty of debates on both sides as to which is better, but a recent one of either means that a new owner isn’t going to need to spend that time and money on doing it. Therefore, it adds value just as a more recently overhauled engine would add more value than an older one.
  6. I removed the clock and replaced it with a metal plate that has a Ram ball mounted to it. iPad mounts to that.
  7. If you’re replacing them anyway, put in camlocs.
  8. “Light IFR” without an AP is fine in my opinion and I did quite a bit of that in my E before I got a new panel. I don’t think you’d want to do hours and hours of IMC without one though. Trying to get the old Britain system working is probably going to be next to impossible based on my attempts. Only real option right now is Garmin because Dynon and others just aren’t interested in certifying for the older models. The Garmin is incredible but very, very expensive.
  9. Poplar Grove Airmotive in Poplar Grove, IL is a very good engine shop and stand behind their work. I had my IO360 overhauled there. https://www.poplargroveairmotive.com/
  10. I have an E model. No YD. My shop said it was unnecessary and having flown with the GFC500 quite a bit now, I really don’t think it would add much.
  11. What you’re describing is almost identical to my process with the exception that rather than target 1800 RPM, I’m usually prop full forward (high RPM) and about 17” MP. Otherwise, the speeds, etc are exactly what I do.
  12. I think it looks much better! Just my opinion FWIW.
  13. I'm 6'1" and find my E model very comfortable in the front. Remember that Mooney's sit like sports cars with your legs almost straight out in front of you. And don't let anyone tell you that Mooney's are smaller side to side than any Piper, etc. because they're all almost identical. As for the backseat, I can haul one regular size adult or two kids comfortably, or it can seat two -small to regular size- adults somewhat uncomfortably unless it's a short flight. You can get a very nice C or E for under $100k.
  14. I don’t see anything in there that’s relevant, but AC20-62E seems somewhat applicable. I think the bottom line (at least for me) is 1) could I make a case in court for my actions by proving that what I did was in the best interest of safety, didn’t affect flight characteristics, I didn’t have any other certified options, etc. and 2) do I have an A&P willing to sign it off in the logbook. In this case, I think I’m covered, so will likely use the new LEDs.
  15. Mine are literally falling apart and I’ve looked everywhere for something that’s STC’d but no luck. My current thinking is that since it would not be a major alteration, lights like these should suffice. I am sure opinions will vary on the legality. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/lsdimled.php
  16. Here you go. I just put two of these in my Mooney and you can even get them with the trim, PTT, and AP switches installed. https://www.cygnet-aero.com/control-wheel-ca60-524080-17
  17. I'm a CFI and own an M20E. I meet all of the requirements listed and have done Mooney insurance checkouts before. I am in southwest Florida. Where are you?
  18. Has never happened to me and I can't foresee it ever happening unless you move the selector to off instead of the other tank.
  19. Two paint shops that I'd recommend checking into: Wood Lake Aircraft Refinishing in Sandwich, IL http://www.woodlakeaircraft.com/ This paint shop is close to my home field and I know several people who have had paint jobs done there. The only downside is that they are usually booked up at least a year out. Mena Aircraft Painting in Mena, AR https://www.menaaircraftpainting.com/ My plane is currently there being painted right now and while the job isn't yet complete, I can say that the customer service is top notch. I chose this shop based on other reviews here and on Facebook. Price-wise, Mena Aircraft Paint was nearly the same as Wood Lake but they were able to get me in within about 4 months of scheduling. Note: there are actually a few paint shops on the field at Mena, AR and one of them has a bit of a bad reputation. Trea and Doug Blair own the one I pasted a link to above and have a good reputation, so don't confuse them with other one on the field in Mena.
  20. I run 25 square, or at least 25k RPM and whatever full throttle with ram air open gives me, and I lean it to about 11GPH.
  21. On my '69 E, whenever I press the flap switch up or down, the motor keeps going after it's reached the top or bottom. So, I doubt there are limit switches, at least on mine.
  22. I am a CFI and own an E. I’m at C77, which isn’t far from you. Feel free to send me a message if you’d like me to assist you with your training.
  23. Best I've seen with mine was about a quart in 9 hours. Worst was a quart in 4 just prior to overhaul. "Normal" for me seems to be about a quart in 6.5 to 7, keeping it at 6 quarts all the time.
