Much faster than my previous Cherokee!

It’s been really tough working the market lately. It’s either lower price with a big potential mechanic bill or in in good shape and well equipped with really high acquisition cost. It worked out though! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The guy that owned it really put a lot into it (time and money). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

After several months and a few mistakes along the way I can finally call N7816V my own. After some training I flew I home today from KOPN to KLYH. I knew that I’d love flying a mooney but this one really impressed me with its efficiency and easy handling characteristics (as long as you keep your speeds right). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Looking for a Mooney Pre-buy

Awesome, I’ll give them a call to see what we can figure out. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Good evening! I have finally found a Mooney I want to purchase and have a purchase agreement. Does anyone know of a good Mooney mechanic to complete a pre-buy inspection near Fort Valley, Georgia?

That definitely makes sense to me. It would only be an accessory to a plane that otherwise looks close to what I am looking for. Being on the East Coast and my typical long flight not really needing to go as high as that would allow, I may leave it to someone else.

https://www.barnstormers.com/ad_detail.php?id=1489646&catid=20590 I’ve noticed this C on the market for a while now and even spoke with one of the owners. The only thing I’m apprehensive about is it being turbo normalized (Rayjay). My biggest question is about adding another system and potentially another maintenance cost that could be expensive and not worth it for my typical mission. Is this a legitimate concern? If the rayjay failed could you simply just remove it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wouldn't say I'm dead set on a C, just most of what I've been looking at the C fits my budget better. Do you know any details on it such as model year, TSMOH, avionics, tank sealing timeframe, etc? Thanks

The best advice! I’ve been sitting on the cash for this purchase just waiting. It seemed when I didn’t have the cash there were several at a good price and matching my desires. Now, not so much luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I don’t disagree with you, we lucked out on a home purchase last year and got a really good deal. This year a similar home is going for $50k more than we paid (I’m in southern VA where home prices are reasonable). I have found that the aircraft which aren’t top of the market are still bringing a reasonable price (higher than 3 years ago still) and that’s where I’m likely heading for a purchase. The top 25% of the quality seems to be making up 75% of the price increases. I know the mindset is to buy the best examples of the aircraft you want, but I cannot see paying the prices or anywhere near what some people are asking. It does appear though that the airplanes on the market that are asking the really high prices are sitting for quite a while. I’ve noticed a few that have been on the market for over a month or more and are steadily having to drop their asking price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What in specific would you say are the biggest differences on 65 and newer (outside of the windows)? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I saw that one too and am working on getting more information. It seems like a good price. Apparently the logs prior to 1985 are missing which is somewhat concerning though the seller was straight forward about it. I think the way the lower cowl is attached is different. Screws vs quicker fasteners I think though I could be completely wrong. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ve tried getting in touch with that person but haven’t received a response yet. I may try calling tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You may be right, but at the same time I’m not looking for a top of the market example either. I’m just looking for a sound airframe/ engine combination with an old gps. I’m fine with older paint and no a/p. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It’s definitely a nice C model but seems overpriced and is out of my budget. That’s the speed bump I keep hitting. I’m in the mid 40s and up to $50k for a reasonable example on my budget. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

One addition is that I’m on the East coast and would prefer to stay east of the Mississippi unless there’s a nice example. Thank you in advance! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I know I've posted a couple times lately but have found the market to be less than ideal up to this point (out of my budget or have been sitting when pressing the seller for previous years flying times). I want to purchase an M20C that is a 1965 or newer with at least an IFR gps. If anybody is considering selling theirs or knows of one on the market or possibly coming to the market that is in good condition I'd be happy to speak with them. I don't need new paint or new interior, just one that is has functional IFR platform (I want to get my IR in it) and is solid mechanically. Any help is much appreciated!

Is this still available? I never saw a previous post about it being gone?

I think I've seen that one for sale. What are you currently asking for it? Last I checked it was above my budget.

I’ve found at least a couple aircraft that were hangar kept and completely updated just prior to not being flown anymore that would bring a premium in today’s market. I understand how the owner gets to the point of not having flown the airplane in a couple years. They keep thinking they’re going to get back into flying very soon and no need to go through the process of preserving but time inevitably starts to pass by. It’s unfortunate because to them the aircraft is still worth a premium because they know how much has been invested but to a buyer there’s a huge amount of risk they need to account for in the purchase. I’m specifically talking about aircraft in the 40,000 to 55,000 price range. The engine, outside of lots of glass on the panel, makes up the largest part of the value. That’s why my question is so focused on that and not other airframe/ avionics specific items (those must be good for me to consider a purchase). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I suppose more of what I'm looking for is to see how people that purchased aircraft in a similar situation fared once they flew it a while. How often does this seem to, after a year or so, transform into medial engine work (a cylinder replacement - not such a big deal) or more heavy work like an overhaul? I know this is a broad question with far too many variables. I know purchasing an aircraft is a risk one way or the other but I'm attempting to gather the most information to limit that risk as much as possible. I suppose the biggest thing I'm looking for is advice on how to approach it. Obviously a good PPI is necessary but would borescoping the engine be the best way to hedge my bets against a quick overhaul? My other question is should an aircraft that is otherwise very nice (hangared, good paint, good avionics, etc) bring premium pricing if its been idle for 2-3 years?

I’ve been watching the Mooney market for a while now and have recently made an attempt to purchase one that I had to walk away from after a botched PPI. (A prior post of mine where I was pretty salty). As I’m continuing to search for a C or E model that fits my objectives and budget I continue to come across something that I have a concern about. I’ve called some of the really nice looking Mooney owners and brokers about the aircraft they have to sell and specifically asked about recent flight times. I’ve found several that have flown less than 10 hours in the past year or even less than ten hours in each of the past 2, 3, or more years. I'm aware of the issues of not having flown at all in the last several years, but how much concern should I have when an aircraft is sold "Low Low engine time" of 13 hours and and overhaul is 3 years old? I'm not talking about aircraft sold at a deal price either, I'm referencing the aircraft being sold top of market pricing for a typical C model between $50,000 and $60,000. I'm mostly concerned about engine troubles with this questions, not so much the tank sealing or gear pucks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
