  1. That’s an awesome picture! This one has the Johnson bar. As for the legs, that’s definitely true! I’m planning on having a few empty bottles in the cockpit just in case! I’m really looking forward to it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Thank you. I definitely didn’t want to push any night cross country flights until I built up some trust in the plane. Just being new to me you can’t be too safe! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I'm figuring, if I'm the luckiest person when I pick it up, that it'll be at least 2 days to get it home. Around 13-14 flying hours total, not counting stops. It doesn't have anything that reads fuel flow that I'm aware of. I personally never fly under about 1.5 hours in the tanks even when I know the airplane well. I know this is a relative question due to differences in weather/temperature but typically on a warm to hot day what do you use for your cruising altitude? What is the highest altitude you've had your C model in the summer? I plan on enjoying the flight back for sure but with the knowledge that hotels are expensive I'll try to keep the number of days low. I live in Bedford County and kept my last aircraft at KLYH. I went to Virginia Tech so I'm somewhat familiar with some of that country! Thank you! Matt
  4. Hello All, I am in the process of completing a PPI on a Mooney M20C in Washington state and live in Virginia. I know I could have likely found something I wanted more local but I was somewhat intrigued by the adventure of flying my new bird back across the country. I will be receiving transition training when I fly over there to complete the transaction and likely flying back solo. For those who have completed a trip across the county, especially navigating across the Rockies, what is something you learned that you think would be great to pass along? Is there anything you wouldn't typically think about on a long cross country that I should consider? Should I consider getting a portable O2 setup to catch some of the higher altitudes on my eastward movement and while crossing the mountains? I'm aware that the density altitudes will keep me from staying much about 12,500 but if the winds are favorable and I can get there I'd like to take advantage. I know that weather is always a factor in a trip like this and I'm not IFR rated, no need to dive into the challenges of that necessarily.
  5. I understand. I’d be potentially very interested if it was a little later. Thank you.
  6. How soon are you looking to sell? I’m going to be in the market in the near future for a C model.
  7. That is definitely a struggle. The lack of an IFR cert has definitely limited where I’ve been able/comfortable to go. What type of fuel burn are you seeing on a 1-2 XC?
  8. I may could push for flying that long but I expect my flying partner would need a break before the 4 hour mark. I would like an F, but the higher acquisition cost would likely keep me out of that market.
  9. Awesome, I can definitely do that.
  10. I will definitely have to get in touch with him on that! It’ll be late spring or early summer before I’ll be able to start seriously looking (as long as the Cherokee has a new home). I’d rather purchase something that I’ll want to hang on to for a while.
  11. I imagine definitely a jump forward on the cruise!
  12. I’d like to get in touch with him when I’m closer to needing the transition training! Thanks for the information!
  13. I would be very interested in that if you’re willing! That’s less than an hour from me even on the Cherokee.
  14. Phil is a really nice guy. Last I saw him was back in the fall. He was at Falwell airport enjoying retirement I believe.
  15. That sounds like an excellent point. Thank you! Hopefully I’ll be able to have the problem of finding a cfi for transition training in the somewhat near future.
  16. That sounds like excellent advice. Thanks!
  17. I would be interested in that. I’m planning on putting my Cherokee on the market sometime this spring. If it’s close enough for a Cherokee I would be interested in that. Thanks!
  18. I know Phil! I hadn’t thought about getting with him on that. He’s back down in this area now, I’ll have to talk with him Its a a lot of open land between Richmond and Lynchburg, luckily the SFRA is a bit north!
  19. That has been one of my worries (old airframes). I’d rather get one of the later year C models but (late 60’s early 70’s) but don’t see as many on the market. I’d LOVE to get something like a J but it’s out of my price range.
  20. From everything I’ve looked at, a slightly speed modded C would be the best bang for my buck. I guess this could be another topic completely but where do you find the best instructor/ long term fellow owner to offer transition training? I’m at the same airport as Liberty School of Aviation but it seems to me like getting transition training from someone that’s only flown cessnas and pipers wouldn’t be as beneficial. I could just be making assumptions with that.
  21. I’m tied down at KLYH.
  22. Hello all, I have been reading these forums for a while and am very interested in purchasing vintage Mooney for their capabilities and efficiency. It’s typically just me and the girlfriend which are both average frame and shouldn’t have any issue with available space. I am interested in anything between the C and F model (due to affordability). I have yet to actually fly in one and would love to find someone near the central Virginia area that would like to split the fuel cost and go for a flight. One other note is that I’ll be transitioning from a Cherokee 140/160 and have yet to receive any complex time. I have around 150 hours total flight time in just shy of 2 years. I guess my main question is if there’s anybody on here that may be near my area and also for any advice on transitioning. I’ll have to sell the Cherokee before I can even consider another purchase.
