Actually happened after my Team Penske days. Was an MRN radio trip I schedule myself. Told them it just came out of annual and I inspect that tube every time I’m at an FBO. They agreed to take care of it at that point.

New truss from the factory for my K model last summer was just under 3AMU. Had an FBO damage mine and found it before takeoff. Had them get with Paul Maxwell to get the new part. FBO covered the repairs.

I printed it in PLA and attached it with 3M double sided adhesive tape. Sits above the heat duct and the heat flows under it.

Continental Engine Conversion Service Bulletin
ToddCC22 replied to Q The Engineer's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
From what I was told the 252/Encore cowl mold was lost in one of the Mooney shutdowns. It was at an outside vendors location since the Encore cowl was Carbon fiber and that business closed and liquidated during the shutdown. -
Might be worth a check for water in the oil while the cowl is off. I would think it would be the first thing out of the quick drain if there is any. If oil temp isn’t getting high enough in flight, condensation doesn’t get removed and the oil/water mix can reduce pressure. Just an uneducated thought…….

I had my last annual done at AGL and couldn’t be more impressed with their work and knowledge. They stay busy so look up the website and give Tamara a call to schedule. https://www.aglaviation.com/agl-home

How Much Did You Fly Your Mooney This Year?
ToddCC22 replied to V1VRV2's topic in General Mooney Talk
156.7 so far…..still got 6 days of flying to go! my photography skills don’t compare to those above! -
I think this is what you were referring to. Jewell Aviation in MO. They did mine just before I took delivery from Maxwell.

Prop frustration. Help / Advise needed.
ToddCC22 replied to Irmin's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I would think @Cody Stallingswould be a good person to reach out to. He owns a propeller service business and is the resident prop expert here. -
As an Encore owner myself, Gmax has one for sale that looks to fit your mission. If your willing to wear O2, it should be capable of 180 kts TAS on 10 gal/hr in the low flight levels that is really useful on ~3 hr trips. At that burn rate, fuel load takes up less of your 1070# useful load. https://www.gmaxamericanaircraft.com/inventory/?/listing/for-sale/208455961/1988-mooney-m20k-encore-piston-single-aircraft?dlr=1&dscompanyid=6946&settingscrmid=614667

Is a Mooney right for my mission? If so, which one?
ToddCC22 replied to Pogamassing's topic in General Mooney Talk
May I suggest a M20K 252 for your mission. It’s very capable and as @gsxrpilotis doing, when the motor comes up for rebuild, and the kids are getting larger, you can get the motor and landing gear upgraded to an Encore conversion and get another ~200# useful load. I bought mine as a fresh conversion from Maxwell Aviation with a useful load of just over 1100# and just flew a 600nm trip with my wife and teenage kids in 3:45 on 44 gal of 100ll. -
I 3D printed mine. Came in just under 8 oz and holds my IPad when it doesn’t have drinks in it. Heat vent exits below it. Mooney Cup Holder with ipad 3.25 scalloped front angled v3.stl

Likewise I had a great experience with Schemedesigners. Worth every bit of their fee. They worked great with Aerosmith in Longview TX to get my K done just the way I wanted.

What are the thoughts if putting a Continental CD-265 on the current airframe became a factory option?
-
As someone that was recently in your position, my path was to buy a Cherokee 180 to get me thru my IFR rating and log my first 275 hours. Then I bought my M20K and love it. Learning and building confidence in a slower, less complex airplane to me was a good transition to the Mooney. My insurance quote for the Mooney was noticeably cheaper after 300 hours. Like mentioned above be aware of always having another option in Go/ No Go situations, so you can make good choices. Good luck on your venture!

I was really happy with the process and scheme that Scheme Designers did for me. Detail and revisions were spot on. Great experience.

AOPA ePilot just had an article on “ The Impossible Turn” that was an engine failure at 450’. Guy made it back to the departing runway to land. Lucky for him, he was in a Mooney. I don’t think most other planes would have made it. https://click.mail.aopa.org/?qs=c8a6d98f0208fe44f9d332373767138b66da5f9f407685949550268ee6de315dab980be6c849d3546c95f7920ee8b1dac5e2891d8335a255 in hind sight, I think a left turn to the other runway would have been a safer chance, but he made it.

I’ll make a habit of looking for hanger space for overnights. Still would like to have what I need for outside storage if Necessary. Good point of covers for the control surfaces. Thanks for the input.
-
I just got my refurbished 252 encore and keep it hangered but travel ~20 weekends a year that it will be outside. What are everybody’s thoughts on covers for traveling? Lightweight? Standard cover with the microfiber to keep from scratching thing up? Integral engine cover to not need the cowl plugs? Other thoughts?

So the switches are from Mooney directly and are the ones used in current production planes. They are available from the factory in the $35 range and are a minor alteration which doesn't require an STC or field approval. I really like how they make the panel clean and current!
-
Maxwell did all the work. I told Paul what I wanted for avionics and let him work from there and don’t have the specifics off the top of my head. Headed out to the hanger today and will get some info. They all do still use an inline breaker in the right side of the panel.
-
Yeah, almost asked him whether he still had his Mooney last week. I’m still a little bitter about him wrecking my car as we were leading Martinsville in 2015. Couldn’t get myself to start that friendly conversation.
-
I have plenty of learning to do with the new panel, autopilot and plane. Have a couple CFII’s on my home field with a 231 that I am using for training and will stretch her wings to several races this year once I am comfortable with it. Never stop learning!

I can’t wait to see its capabilities. This site and its supporters lead me to it. What a great community.

So I bought a Cherokee 180 for my first 250 hours for my ppl and instrument rating and just picked up my Mooney. So fortunate to get to know Don and Paul Maxwell as they converted a 252 to an Encore for me. Just over 1100# useful load. Can’t express how much I appreciate this entire community for information and knowledge!
