  1. Gear door looks open very wide, however, your cowl flaps sure button up nice.
  2. My pleasure @TylerB. It was nice meeting you. Once I get the vacuum pump replaced I'd be glad to take you up in it. I think you will be able to find a flyable example of a C/D/E/G model within your budget. In fact...for $40k this airplane looks great. https://barnstormers.com/classified_1329942_Mooney+M20E.html It is at the bottom of the for sale thread by @Herlihy Brother I actually called about it before I bought mine, however, I didn't want to spend much more than $30k. As I said, my uncle owns a Commander 114 and I've flown that before as well. Transitioning should be pretty simple. I did take my uncle for a ride in my Mooney and he said "I should sell mine and get one of these." Again, it was nice meeting you and good luck finding your plane!
  3. Some of the electronic documents I have show some info... Again, I will have to wait until this weekend when I return to the hangar to check more... My C did have a Rayjay turbo installed. It was removed in 1999 or so. Below is part of the FAA Form 337 that I have downloaded electronically.
  4. I will have to go to the hangar and read through the logs. The airplane I bought used to have a turbo installed. I'll look through my documentation this weekend and see if it was a rayjay system. I know squat about the STC process or if it came with the plane. I would have no use for it, however, if the documentation for it does exist.
  5. Flew my C home from Texas two weeks ago. Had 200 hrs TT 10 hrs retract 0 hrs Mooney. Got a few quotes...two required 5 dual and 5 solo. The cheapest and the one I went with required only a checkout (got signed off in 3 hrs) and 10 hours in type before passengers. I got the checkout and have flown it 13 hours since then. It was Falcon that I went with...they are a broker the actual company is Global Aerospace. I also got the same quote through AOPA but the person at Falcon was more responsive. $1,900 for the year.
  6. Thanks @CDO...you offered to show me your C a few months ago when I was looking. I was able to look at one even closer but still appreciate your offer. This is a great community and am thankful for everyone's help. @TylerB came to the right place...
  7. Just bought a C and flew it home from Texas. I am now based at Pottstown (Heritage). I would be glad to show it to you. PM me if you want.
  8. I don't think so...I just did this with my transition training last weekend in the C. Perhaps what you mentioned plus seat slippage and it could be a bigger problem.
  9. I think I am good for a little while now for trips over 1,000NM. Right around 500 I'd be glad to do again right away.
  10. Panel shot as requested...and the interior...
  11. I am based out of PTW. I would not have wanted to fly through the night in an unfamiliar bird. If I could have left early on Sunday the plan was to stay west of the mountains but since we had to spend the night somewhere the weather was more favorable on the east side of the mountains on Monday. Congrats on your new airplane also.
  12. First, my name is Kevin and I am a 200hr private pilot that has basically only flown a Cessna 150 converted to tail dragger. Recently I made an offer on an M20E and lost out to a higher bid (A big thank you to Brian Nelson (orionflt) for his assistance and knowledge for that offer). Afterwards, I continued my search until I found a C model that met my needs. The only thing was that this aircraft was over 1,300nm away. I decided I would hire a local instructor (Bob Cabe) and fly it home the next day. Long story short, after 3 hrs and 14 take offs and landings on Saturday 3/24 I was checked out and ready to fly it home. I flew my father, who is a pilot also, down with me to San Antonio on Friday night so I could have a copilot for the trip home. Sunday 3/25 we were finally able to take off at 1pm. We made it 415nm and decided to stop for the night at Vicksburg MS (very nice place too). Yesterday, 3/26 we flew the last 918nm home. The trip home was great (averaged just over 135 knots and 9.8gph) minus a vacuum pump failure (took out the autopilot and I hand flew it the rest of the way) which I will address this weekend. Anyway, pictures are worth a thousand more words so here you go...
  13. I made a deposit on an M20C at, surprisingly enough, Spring Branch (1T7). I plan to fly it back in a few weeks. I hired a local instructor to check me out who has over 3k hours in Mooneys and 288 in M20C's. You can PM me if you want his info. I posted a few weeks ago this thread: I'll make a post when I get it home.
  14. Just got off the phone with Falcon again. They said last year was about 25% less with my current credentials. Even student pilots transitioning to complex were receiving great rates. He said over the last few years the insurance companies were just trying to get policies written. Now there is an uptick in policies being written so the prices can rise again... Oh well, I guess 1/2 AMU will be a drop in the bucket in the end...
  15. I am about to bind insurance coverage on an M20C I made a deposit on. I got a quote through AOPA and Falcon. Both came back with Global Aerospace at $1,903. 200hrs TT and 10hrs complex. $30k hull. Who are you using?
  16. The airport that I will be near is KSUA. I actually acquired my pilot cert. there. Thanks.
  17. Thanks CDO...I fly to Smoketown very often. I'll PM you to discuss seeing your airplane.
  18. I am suspect of the numbers. If you look at "rudder sqft" above they are all the same, however, the rudder length was increased in 1968 so the square footage must have increased as well. Am I correct?
  19. I am a few hundred hour private pilot with 90% of my time in tail draggers. For the first few years it was just my wife and I but now the family has grown. We are a small family and are considering a short bodied Mooney. I am wondering if anyone local (PTW, SE PA) would be willing to show their aircraft or perhaps even give a demo flight. I would be willing to pay for the fuel of course. If anyone is available or interested please PM me or reply below. Thanks! edit: I neglected to mention, I will be in SE FL in March if anyone is willing and able to show or fly down there as well. Thanks again.
