  1. It's attached with double sided tape, so not permanent. It doesn't take up any shoulder room.
  2. Wow I'm an ahole. I thought you were just reposting an ad you found online. I would have not made the same comments if I knew you were the seller
  3. I'm also fairly certain that that airplane has a GPS400, NOT a 430W.
  4. It's not for sale, but if $63k is reasonable for that C, I'd take $70k for mine, right this minute.
  5. I'm thinking I should list my C for $75k if that's the best equipped C on the market right now.
  6. There's a LOT of heat exchange happening in that little heater core. I don't know how long the ice actually lasted, but the water was still quite cool when I drained it after tying down.
  7. Wow. I'm sold! My wife and I flew from KDVT-KINW-KGUP-KSOW-KDVT this morning. She wanted to 'practice' for a flight we're taking to San Antonio next week. Just to get a feel for a longer flight - the longest she's ever been in a plane is not much more than 2 hours. We departed around 8am, OAT was already over 100. I put a 10lb block of ice and emptied a 20oz bottle of water into the cooler. We taxied to get fuel and I left the cooler running (I have a battery) with the doors all closed up. When we got in, the cabin was actually cool. Not cold, mind you, but I would guess around 80 degrees, vs. the usual 100+ we're used to. I closed all the outside air vents and ran the cooler until we were around 7500' MSL, when OAT was about 70 F. Shut the cooler off and we enjoyed a nice 3 hour flight. On descent back into DVT, I fired up the cooler again. It wasn't blowing "cold" air anymore, but it was definitely cooler than the vent air, which was over 100 degrees. Overall, I am very very satisfied. It worked fantastic! Next time, I'll put 2 10lb blocks of ice, and then fill in the empty space with a bag of cubed ice. I bet I can get 30lbs of ice in there. Thanks Bob!
  8. I have an audio in jack for my GMA-340. It's very nice to be able to listen to music, but what I don't like is that when ANYONE talks, the music mutes. I'm fine with it muting when there is radio traffic, but I'd like to be able to have a conversation with my passengers without the music muting. I see that there is a way to disable this (connecting J2 pin 13 to J2 pin 14). Is this in the wiring harness behind the panel? Has anyone done this? How do you identify the correct wires?
  9. Mine came out of California as well, but the purchase was completed in AZ. I'm sure I'm going to have to deal with the California Board of Equalization (if that's not an orwellian name....) at some point.
  10. Since no fees are listed anywhere for most of these places, and you don't find out until you land, it seems like it would be difficult for them to make a case to legally collect.
  11. I also just picked up a B-Kool unit. It looks very well made. I haven't tested it yet, but probably will today. I took it down to the field and put it in the baggage compartment the other evening. Fits very easily into my C. Sideways, it barely takes up any room. It's quite compact. I've got a thermometer I'm going to set in the plane, fire up the B-Kool, and see what happens!
  12. It helped that mine counts as an antique, being over 50 years old. Not sure what it is for a newer model
  13. I've been digging around under the seats in the plane for some change to pay, but I think I'm going to have to maybe look in the couch too. $11.67 sales tax. $5.00 registration fee. I think I can live with that.
  14. I know... I was poking fun at another currently running thread about similar (although MUCH higher quality) pair of paint jobs.
  15. That paintjob, though.....
  16. If I were browsing photos online of paint jobs I like, how am I to know who exactly designed it? And with hundreds of similar, if not identical, schemes - I would be very surprised if a copyright claim could ever be enforced. Not a lawyer, but I do sell custom designed art for a living. I also see that the copyright only seems to apply to work found on their website, followed by a claim that many of their clients have sued and won. Id be VERY interested to read even one of those cases
  17. I have one of those, I'll have to play with it.
  18. That sounds like a great test! If I find which one is off, is it more likely to be the probe or the instrument?
  19. They are. But in flight they are not, and that's concerning. Particulary the oil temp. Am I near redline or at the bottom of the green? That's a significant difference, and I find it hard to believe that my oil temp could be the same, or very similar to OAT - which is what the UBG is telling me.
  20. On pretty much everything. However, my biggest concern is the Oil Temperature. The garwin shows oil temp at near 220. The UBG-16 shows it at 105. One of them is clearly wrong. My mechanical OAT shows about 20 degrees difference from the UBG. Oil pressure is also different. What should I look at to get this squared away, while I'm budgeting for an upgrade to a CGP-30P or a JPI EDM? I wouldn't mind getting rid of the Garwin cluster altogether.
  21. I spent 5 hours with a CFI learning the ins and outs. We shot an ILS approach, then did some crosswind landings. IIRC, it was 16-18kt crosswind component. And it was 100+ degrees. It was bumpy, hot, and miserable. And I loved every minute. I really got a chance to push my limits. I've landed in heavy crosswind before, but the air was always fairly smooth. This was just nasty. Today, I finally got to fly her by myself. I'm really really liking it!
  22. Right, but what confuses me is that NOTE 2 does not apply to a 1963. I'm going to get the proper AFM and see what it says.
  23. Unfortunately, this one wasn't hangar talk. I had the same DPE and he confirmed it. I'll be honest, he's right. It was in the POH as a required placard (1997 C172). If it's in the POH, you have to have it. Was it a dick move, sure? But you have to ask, what if HE got ramp checked as a DPE? Unlikely, yes. but possible. He didn't fail the student, he discontinued the ride until the proper placards were in place. He was fair, but a stickler for rules.
  24. On my PPL checkride, the DPE hammered placards, which is why I'm on a 'roll' about them. The student previous to me, he discontinued the checkride because there wasn't a "no smoking" placard.
  25. I think that sounds great! I have referenced the later manuals for performance data, my biggest concern is I plan on getting my instrument rating in this plane. When it comes time, I want to make sure the DPE is happy.
