  1. Having worked in insurance, I believe that if t&g was causing that many claims year in and year out, the insurance companies would likely exclude the practice from coverage. Yet they don't. Why?
  2. Honestly, without further details, there's no way to know whether the T&G had any direct bearing on the crash.
  3. Then we have no verifiable statistics that T&G's cause gear up landings? Is there anything more than anecdote? I'm a 'new' pilot with very little Mooney time (under 100 hours). So, I'm not asking to be snarky or what have you, I really want to know.
  4. When I do a google search for "mooney touch and go crash" I didn't find any crashes that were a result of a planned T&G. Instead, I found several that were the result of folks not knowing how to control their airplane when they had to do an unplanned "T&G". Does anyone have actual statistics (because I realize that the above is completely anecdotal) that show that T&G's are responsible for how many crashes VS. how many crashes are caused by not knowing how to do a T&G?
  5. My transition instructor had me do lots of touch and goes in my C. Full flaps, no flaps, half flaps. I didn't even know how much danger he was putting me in. That said, I sure was glad for that experience when I bounced the hell out of the plane on an IR training flight. It was just easy to push in the power and hold the yoke forward. Had I never done a T&G, I don't know that i would have been nearly as confident and quick to go around in a bad situation. I don't believe you can simulate the forces required any other way. Do you really want the first time you've ever gone full power off the runway fully configured for landing to be when you're already in a bad spot?
  6. The hangar is owned by the City of Phoenix. I don't know that I can make friends with them.
  7. No lie, the last landing I made when dropping the plane off was probably the best landing I've ever made. I mean, it was PERFECT. My son was flying with me and after touchdown, we were rolling out. He looks over and says "did we land yet? What was that squeak sound?" I mean it was the best landing I've ever made.
  8. They did. I'm certainly not saying that it's a big nothing, but I don't think we're going to see a repeat of Houston. That's my hope anyhow.
  9. Looking like this might not be too bad. At least I'm hoping. The news seems to really be struggling to find any damage or flooding
  10. It's a 2 hour drive away.
  11. Dropped my C off for annual yesterday. I don't know what to do with myself on a Sunday now. I guess it's a good thing football starts again today.
  12. I think this is what I'm going to do. I can comfortably do it hot, but if I screw up and pop the breaker, who knows what I take offline in someone else's hangar. Then I have to call and fess up. Which would probably be worse for me.
  13. Lucky.. I've got one that looks like this, except the one I've got probably puts out less light.
  14. From what he wrote, they were specifically testing crosswind landing characteristics.
  15. Wow this topic went sideways... Can we talk about touch and goes or something instead?
  16. I'm a registered electrical sign contractor. I absolutely know how to do it to code.... They just want permits and stuff. There's no breaker, only a single 20amp outlet. I have tons of conduit, a bender, wire, boxes, etc.
  17. I would bet "real" money that guys with a ton of electronic gizmos spend more time eyes in the cockpit than a guy with a single nav comm and an E6b
  18. I'd like to put a small fridge in my hangar. The hangar rules specify that nothing can be left plugged into an extension cord. There is one outlet, right near the door. Basically in the most inconvenient place possible. And, obviously, unplugging the fridge every time I left would sort of defeat the purpose. So, would it be acceptable to get a 20' appliance cord and permanently wire it to the fridge? Then it's not on an extension cord, and an appliance cord is specifically rated for the purpose. Thoughts? Is this safe? Obviously I don't want to burn the hangar down. I could have a professional electrician come in and add outlets, but I don't know how permanent the hangar is going to be (not 100% sure I like the location) and I can't take the outlets with me.
  19. Anthony, Here is a longer version. I don't own the video, so I don't think I can upload it to youtube. If you skip to about 40 minutes into the video the crash sequence starts. https://www.redbull.tv/video/AP-1MRD4KSDW1W11/mojave-test-pilot
  20. This guy had got to be the luckiest I've ever seen. How he survived that basically uninjured..... 21407812_1454681264586692_6449940452136189952_n.mp4
  21. Awesome!! Yeah, she told me that you 'have' to take the first one they offer and then you have to stay for a month. At the end of the month, you can request to put on a different list. You can request specific areas you want to be in. Likely, I'll ask to move to the north side. Honestly, though, I'm not sure yet. I kinda like where mine is because it's really easy access from Deer Valley road. Kinda sucks Sibran feul is only on the north ramp, but it's really not a 'long' taxi, especially where I am. Straight across C11 and I'm there. Maybe a minute or 2 extra time. You might also not know-- if you want, you can do pretty much anything you want to your hangar. Paint it, epoxy the floors, add electrical everywhere, etc. You just have to get approval (which she says is pretty easy if it's not 'crazy') and permits where necessary. The only caveat is that you cannot recoup any of the costs or anything should you move out. Can't wait to check out your plane when it gets home!
  22. For now South East. First set of hangars closest to transpac.. Id like to be over by you, but I have to stay for one month before I can request a 'transfer'
  23. I definitely need chocks. I have the brake set right now. I don't know that I''ll cover the plane, I fly too much. 3-4 times a week.
