  1. If the engine is in good shape at 1400 hours, overhauling is completely unnecessary. Worse yet, a new engine is statistically less reliable than a 1400 hour engine in known good condition.
  2. Sell engine at 1400 hours? Is it making metal? Low compression?
  3. Thanks Rags! I ordered a couple of the 14 Volt bulbs.
  4. Okay, sounds as if the GE303 is the solution, but before I order them let me ask: the 303 is a 24 Volt bulb. So, it works properly in our 14 Volt aircraft? If someone can confirm this I will order them immediately.
  5. Solution! Thanks to N201 for suggesting the removal of the case. I have flown with one of these in my Cessna for 8 years so I am familiar.
  6. How many of you have flown an early Mooney with and without the positive control operational? In other words with no autopilot at all? It sure seems different than a Cessna. Edit: That is, flying them on instruments with and without Positive Control?
  7. Does it run well, or does it need overhaul?
  8. Outstanding. I didn’t think about removing it from the rear case. I will find a battery holder, because the one in the case is ratty looking anyway. I bought an LC2 and then another for parts. I have one in my Cessna that I really like. If I can get it in the yoke I will be a happy camper. Thanks a bunch N201!!!
  9. Darn autocorrect, Yes, I meant Wakmann.
  10. I need a working Walkman clock or a timer that will fit in the F yoke. I fixed up an Astro Tech, but it won’t fit.
  11. Sorry for not putting this in the For Sale and Wanted section but I expect it will get more response here. The title is the question. I fixed up an Astro Tech which I love, but it won’t fit in the center of the old style F yoke. I would even do some swapping for one. I also would be interested in a timer if it is one that is known to fit the yoke. If you know of a model that will for sure fit in the yoke, I would appreciate knowing the make and model. Thanks for your responses.
  12. There ya’ go.
  13. I have been a Mercedes Benz enthusiast since I was stationed in Germany circa 1969 to 1971. I read years ago that their research indicated that firm seats were less fatiguing on long trips.
  14. Yes, I stood corrected on the light color five posts previous to the one you quoted.
  15. No it wouldn’t put the lens rearward. It would put the antenna up and rearward. IOW just roll it over to the other side with same end forward to put antenna up.
  16. Good reason! I wonder if a different color lens is available.
  17. Is there a reason you couldn’t mount it on the right wing tip with the indicator light up so you could see it?
  18. $2,500?.!!! I am going to polish my spinner some more. BTW, the title of the thread reminds me how much I miss my C.:(
  19. Great suggestion. It very well could be the issue. I will be back home Sunday and hopefully get back into aviation mode. Thanks for the tip!
  20. When I finally got my mind in gear, I understand why it’s hard to vary the LED light with a variable resistor. An LED is a semic9nductor junction. I f it is flowing current it is dropping about 1.4 Volts across it. Unlike an incandescent which acts as a simple resistor dropp8g across it about whatever is applied. Varying a pulse width is clearly the best way to do it. Now it’s a matter of seeing if I can get the rheostat out easily. If so, it should be a simple matter of using the controller Marauder is showing us. I’ll look at it when I get home after the holidays, Thanks everyone and Merry Christmas.
  21. Okay, I am very late to the party so this may have already been covered. I am a retired electrical engineer from way back, with the last 30 years of my career being on the software side so I am new to LED lights. i suspect that once I delve into it I will find that wiring a potentiometer for LED light control will allow better control of light level than a rheostat. Once I learn the impedance of the LED lights and how they’re currently connected I will report back. After reading the rest of the thread I may learn that this has already been worked out.
  22. Thanks for the responses. Yes, there is a rheostat above the pilot, and I turned it as bright as it will go. Currently it has two red spotlights in the ceiling with the rheostat. When I started the thread, my thinking was that maybe there are lenses that could make it slightly brighter, but that doesn’t sound promising. From reading your posts and learning, I think A good approach might be to upgrade the existing lights to LED for the short term, and move to post lights later. Please keep the suggestions and comments coming.
  23. Probably jumping the gun on this because haven’t yet done any true night flying, but late yesterday I wanted to go around the patch a few times and had some delays that ended up keeping the air until was dark enough I could barely see the instruments. Once on the ground and in the hangar with door closed I turned on the panel lights. They seemed really dim, but I didn’t take any time to light my eyes dilate. Are there lenses available that allow the lights to be a touch brighter? I have post lights in the custom panel of my Cessna and I am spoiled. Any suggestions?
  24. Yep, didn’t think about the cabin framework. This isn’t your Fathers Cessna. I stand corrected.
