  1. yeah thats kind of what i'm afraid of. even going to a piper matrix or something like that. Maybe just have to talk the wife into a TBM850 and just get it over with lol
  2. Well, here I am sitting here, much more educated about flying and aircraft since buying my first plane. I thought because I live in canada, with our winters, TKS would be a must even though it's not fiki. Since finishing my ifr course (just studying to go write) i'm quickly learning that there are quite a few days that I probably wouldn't go because of icing. Most of my flights are 1-2 hours with a ice layer of 4000asl to 16000 asl. we sit at about 1900agl. Alot of that is generally layers but even still not worth the battle with tks. Because I use the plane 80% for work, i'm starting to think about a better all weather plane. something that could handle 1-2 hours in light ice. ie. heated windshield, heated prop and boots. Any suggestions?
  3. What are you wearing for O2 at FL200?
  4. Awesome feedback! I’m actually sitting my ifr course this weekend, that’s where the discussion came up
  5. I have an 81 m20k with non-fiki tks. I just wanted to hear from other pilots what their limits are for days with ice. Fiki or non fiki. if you are non fiki will you avoid climbing through an ice layer to take off or will you limit it to 2000ft? Or scrub alltogether. Looking for go, nogo scenarios I guess.
  6. So I went for flight today. and I found that I can run 10.5gph lop but with 30in MP. if I ran higher than 31 I could only get the engine to run smooth at 11.5gph. The interesting part is that now I can ROP at 15gph. Im getting about 145-150 true off my aspen with lop and 160-165 rop. very interesting!
  7. ironically, I can get it to lean out to 75% power and keep temps in check where as before I could not get it over 70% without TIT getting too high. i'm trying to run 70% power to balance engine life and speed so hoping to stay out of that 75% zone...hopefully have some flights coming up so we'll see how it goes.
  8. Yeah so I’ve heard. Been thinking about taking those vg’s off.... not seeing any benefit really
  9. It's been good! required alot of tweaking, honestly wasn't taken care of very well. Put in an aspen pro 1000, jpi 830, flight stream 210, jsut put on a turbo xp engine warmer, gami's, tempest plugs and had to get the autopilot rebuilt. now it runs pretty awesome. Just working on the kinks, however I still want a 252 with the 305hp mod lol
  10. Hey Guys, so we turned up the fuel flow today, so now i'm getting about 22gph on take off at 37in. what a difference in power. I was climbing out at 1200ft/min today. There was a wicked 35kt headwind and it was about +8 cecius, but my cht's were low it was pretty awesome. Now my issue is running LOP. I would do 10.5gph no problem and now it runs rough, but if I push a little more fuel into it I was getting a smooth engine at 11 to 11.5gph or 75% power. at 70% or 10.5 it didn't run smooth. I can't see how increasing the fuel flow would affect that?
  11. My problem is that I just paid for the SV/AOA package. if I hadn't done that I would have just ponied up and bought this!
  12. Here is the official fuel setup from Turbo Plus. According to my mechanic, it's no different? Am I missing something? TSIO360 Fuel Setup - NEW 08.pdf
  13. I think the guys getting the extra speed are running 305hp too? vs my 210
  14. I forgot to mention i’m getting my TAS from my aspen.
  15. How are you guys calculating your true air speed? I am running 33in 10.5gph and 2500 at 10000-12000 ft and getting about 145-150kts. I have intercooler, merlyn, tks and VGS. I feel like i’m Missing 10-15kts of speed compared to you guys?
  16. Thanks guys! I'll get it adjusted to that. I was reading another fuel flow article and realized mine isn't setup right. this is likely why my #1 cylinder is already hot on climb. sits at 410 during 110kt climb 500-700ft/min sure would be nice to get that 1000ft/min climb out!
  17. I had my fuel flow set to spec, which is 40in and 24gal/hour But with the merlyn and intercooler I don't ever use more than 37" on take off. Should I have this adjusted to be 24g/h at 37"?
  18. Hmm too bad I just bought their sv/aoa/adsb upgrade, this would have been a good deal!
  19. Thats basically what i've been doing. So thanks very much for that! I've been running 32" 10.5gph and 2500rpm and getting about 145-155kts at 11500. I did a flight from CYQR to KFAR on tuesday. keep in mind I had a 30kt tail wind and 30kt headwind going home. I did 150true at 10.5 gph going down and only used 20 gallons. I did 1701 true at 18hpg rop coming home and cost almost $300 cdn to fill up lol. vs $97usd....LOP is awesome. I'm hooked. I do also notice I burn less oil and there is jsut that much less black soot on the bottom of my plane.
  20. Honestly, for the amount of money I can save on fuel, I could easily afford that turbo overhaul lol. For now I think I found my new cruise settings. Once I get my o2 fixed I'll try going higher but I'm a 2 hour leg the difference in time was minimal vs run rop (maybe 15 mins) and it's about $100-$125 per leg cheaper...that adds up fast!
  21. I guess I'll have to do more reading to see if those tits I ran are bad. 1590 would be 60 LOP so I should be ok?
  22. What do you run for a TIT? i tried running higher MP but 30in and 2400 rpm had the engine running so smooth it was awesome.
  23. What do you run for a TIT? i tried running higher MP but 30in and 2400 rpm had the engine running so smooth it was awesome.
  24. It sucks that 75% is that hard on the engine. 10.5gph works great and the speed was reasonable. I did about 145-150 so I can easily plan for 140. If I am really in a hurry I can do rop and get 160 true. But the fuel savings is so huge it blows my mind. i ran my tit at 1590 for about 60 lop I think that's ok? ignore the HP percentage I need to get that setup properly. That will be another post! first pic is running rop second is running lop. I ran 2400 rpm and i found it was smoother than 2500?
  25. Nope 37 full prop full mix for take off
