  1. they didnt make a new panel but they did have it torn apart. While installing the new transponder and the skytrax 100, they found some of the wiring needed replaced (wrong kind or gauge) so they ripped a lot out). now when you kick the boost pump on you hear a thud like there's a tap on the floor, and nothing. click the switch three times and you hear "bump bump bump".
  2. Thank you! I just got a call from the shop. They're taking a look at it. hopefully the avionics guys just did something screwy with the wiring.
  3. Thanks! So lacking all my documentation at work, I did my best google research then called the CFI I worked with. His input was similar, he too mentioned that it was illegal to operate without it, although it would probably be fine to fly. now lets hope i can get this fixed in time to leave wednesday
  4. Good Morning, I went to pick up my mooney after all the avionics upgrades and surprise, the electric fuel pump doesnt work. I caught it during the start up checklist. When I flip the switch i can hear it start to kick or like it tries to, but nothing happens. The avionics shop also has a maintenance shop, so I asked them to take a look at it. Problem is, that was 5 days ago and they havent done a thing with it as of a few minutes ago. I had planned to fly home for thanksgiving. I'm not a very happy camper all around. It took weeks to get avionics done as well. Questions are: 1) Is this flyable? When i was taking a look after i found the problem, someone on the field made the comment that it was "no big deal" and I should fly it home and fix it later. 2) If the answer to number 1 is "yes", then is it reasonable to do so? 3) any tips or things to look at that might result in a temporary fix? they told me on the phone to stomp on the floorboard and it would probably kick on EDIT: this is the boost pump
  5. Good luck on the hunt. I'd recommend taking a look at Potomac KVKX, however their hangars are not just "offered". When open the owner puts them on ebay to bid on the monthly rent, and the bidding starts at $400. I dont believe there are any open right now. I'm looking to maybe move from there, because I live a bit west in NOVA and although its 18 miles away from home, some days that drive can take 90 minutes. So I'm looking at manassas or somewhere else for a tiedown Really wish we had rates like out in central missouri. $75 a month for a hangar. Out here I'd even build a hangar somewhere to use it for free and pass it to the airport when I die or move.
  6. Now that I’m back I’m considering trying to fly my E to Greenland, mostly just to say I did it. Having done it several times, do you thinks it’s possible on the northern most route without a ferry tank?
  7. Ladies and Gents, my wife and I are off to Iceland tonight for an 8 day post-deployment vacation. Any Mooney pilots here? I don’t have my docs but would gladly contribute to costs of going up for a tour or even ride left seat. Would rather pay a mooney owner than someone else...
  8. can you link me?.. actually I think I found them. holy crap, is that what they go for?
  9. I want to get a set of those yokes to put on my E
  10. My girl is under the knife today. I swapped the 430W on my own to get it off to Chase, and the setup was a breeze, as mentioned, but they are pulling it for the audio alerts, which I insisted upon. Also, turns out there's a bit of an overload with a contraption that was installed poorly (USB outlets). They're throwing in an aircraft grade dual USB port, although the 440 comes with one anyway. Also, all the cabling had to be changed to RG400, something else was installed. That's from older installations, and they had that assumption included in the quote.
  11. Alright everyone..... preliminary review. first... this post is late because of the hurricane(s). There's a box out there with some expensive avionics that were intended for my airplane that were lost for a long time. The good news? @Avionics Source really hooked me up. I wired the money and waited...and waited. Finally reached out to Chase for help. We were able to track that the hurricane effected the shipment, and in order to get my purchase to me quicker Chase was able to skip some of the formalities and have a second shipment sent directly from Florida (hurricane also became a problem). My products arrived and in good order. I bought: IFD 440 Skytrax 100 AXP 340 transponder Slide in replacement for 430W notes: If you're at all like me you can be a bit careless when reading instructions and following directions on stuff like this. I can assist in the design of a satellite system no problem. Put a bunch instructions in front of me when I'm all wound up and excited to play with a new toy then words and lines begin to blur. I had to stop myself a few times and re-read. I followed the instructions provided by Avidyne, used my phone to take pictures of all the Garmin 430W setup screen settings, pulled the 430w. Inserted the 440 and gave it power. It started right up. Even getting into setup mode was easier on the 440. It can APPEAR confusing. The 440 has a lot of options to fill in on each screen. The 430W has a ton of screens and less options. I just filled in what matched and in about 10 minutes I was done. You should really start the airplane for that part. It can drain the battery pretty decently. Tested the GPS WAAS, radios, and map features and all worked well on the ground. Flew out of the DC FRZ did some adjustments to squelch and volume, played around a bit and brought it home. Test complete. Use notes: WATCH THE TRAINING VIDEO. If you did what I did...drop that baby in, fire it up and figure it out on the fly...it appears complex (because its new) but easy to figure it out. Flying at 800' in the FRZ under the bravo shelf is no time to be f@#$@# around with a new toy. I can already tell that this thing is more intuitive, easier to use, and makes getting the data you want/need much easier, but it seemed complex because I did nothing but drop it in and go. Still...even doing that I was able to figure it out. That says something. in my whole hour of use so far, this was a great purchase. Once I watch the training video it will get better. Working with Chase has made this a breeze. He's been available via email to take my questions (with a fast response), was with me the whole time from shipment to install, even when packages were lost, and he even took months of questions (even hypotheticals) while I was deployed (before I even had picked up my airplane) when I was planning. Yes...he was willing to message back and forth with me a hundred times to answer questions from a potential customer that wouldnt be buying for months. @gsxrpilot helped out with some questions too. Pointed me in the right direction from some manuals. The rest of the products are schedule for install in early october and I will finish this write up once that's complete
  12. Gents, I'm all in. I took advantage of the Avionics Source trade-up program to turn in my Garmin 430W, for an IFD-440. On top of that I wanted to bite the bullet and get ADS-B compliant, and with fancy electronics, why only be ADS-B out? so I'm ADS-B in/out. Chase worked with me and got me a deal, I sent the wire over today. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes along with some before/after pics. Chris
  13. Assuming the video is a DVD? Is it available digitally? I don’t own anything that plays disks anymore
  14. I’ll confess to usually not monitoring 121.5. I’ve heard a few serious situations, screaming for a bird to go around or wave off, people looking for lost aircraft, but they’ve been few and far between. It’s been clogged other times with people having whole conversations, guard police yelling at them, airliners, people on the wrong frequency, etc. once it became a distraction I started tuning out. Some days it’s as bad as trying to fly up and down the east coast on a Saturday with smooth air and hoping for peace and quiet on 122.8
  15. Oddly enough too, my best landings have either been at night or on flat strips. Better said, I’ve only had issues at my sloped strip. also Helen Keller landing my old Cessna would be logged as IMC
  16. My 56 model tolerated a bit more speed than 10 and virtually any rate of decent with 40 degree flaps. Helen Keller could’ve landed it. i went out today and made sure to be extra conscious of speed, decent, etc. it did FEEL nose down attitude. I’m used to holding back and riding it in like that. I caught myself with a bit too much back pressure. Released a lot of it. Touched down softly and on the numbers. Forget about the fact I setup on a 9 mile final straight in for the wrong airport (Hyde field is about a mile away and runs parallel, easy to confuse). Immediately caught it and corrected of course. I got a pat on the back at the FBO, apparently that’s a common right of passage
  17. Solved. Turns out my neighbor was driving north through DC today. Last minute scramble to the airport, rodeo bumpy ride, smooth as butter landing and she’s home.
  18. I’m trying to workout logistics while avoiding making too many long drives from DC to PA. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in giving me a ride by air from Potomac airfield (KVKX) to 58M. Fuel costs split of course. if possible my plan is to fly down to Potomac, Park my mooney in her new home then hitch a ride back to 58M, or N57. So my wife and I can drive our cars down. Any takers?
  19. Hit and miss. I’m usually pretty okay with speed but have been known to be too fast
  20. Sort of ASAP. I’m looking form someone to take the southern leg, getting them at KOLV and bringing them somewhere near VA and I’ll take them north. Or something a long those lines.
  21. Thanks! We almost had it solved with some ground transport but it fell through. So we have 3 x 8 week old puppies from KOLV to almost anywhere in northern maryland, philly or southern new jersey area, if anyone can help. I can split the route but its too much to do the whole thing in the middle of a move
  22. Yeah the rescue, although non-profit, is run by someone who has financial means to support. She dumps virtually all of her money into it from what I gather. Wonderful lady, she just lacks actual physical forms of transport. One time I flew she gave me 50% gas (offered 100%) and a hotel overnight. All she asks is you let her know how much you claim on taxes as a write off so she can match her books up
  23. Correction to this, pick up would be in Olive Branch airport MS and its three puppies
