  1. bumped the engine over a couple times. That didnt pull the bendix back in. IA happened to be at the hangar and he told me to start it. After full engine start everything is fine.
  2. yea Ive already been secretly hoping it needs to be replaced. Wife is going to give me the sideeye but man those skytec's spin fast.
  3. thanks I feel better!
  4. Plane wouldnt start the other day. Battery finally gave up. swapped the battery but havent flown since. Was twiddling with the plane in the hangar this afternoon and heard a clicking when moving the prop and found that the bendix is out and in the teeth of the ring gear. I hosed it down with triflow. What's the over/under on me needing a new starter? Im going to go back after work and pull out the plane and hit the starter and then go see if it sucked back in. Did my annual about 6 weeks ago and hosed down the starter with triflow then so I doubt it was unlubed. Just crossing fingers I dont need a new one.
  5. I use http://www.aerohoff.com/ he comes to my hangar and does it. Its $400 min fee for travel and a couple hours. If you can get a few other guys there he'll do them as well. Test takes about 15-20 minutes.
  6. good idea. Blindly attaching the new tubing to the back of those things was real pain. I was kind of dreading taking it out.
  7. not sure... I know about the ground test but for some reason havent done it.. Ill give that a shot tomorrow. Im pretty sure I know where the servo is leaking. I taped it up when I was first fiddling with the PC system but I need to remove the servo so I can do a better job of it.
  8. my plane lists heavily to the left when I release the thumb valve for the brittian wing leveler/AP. Using the trim knob on the turn coordinator doesnt help. Does that mean the left or right servo is leaking?
  9. So I have 5 gallons of the stuff that came with the hangar. I used it on all kinds of things including a chevy 350 to flush it out. I was reading about people using it in engine oil and in fuel as a cleaner. I've heard miracle stories of it cleaning out carbon and gunk etc etc when put in the oil. Cleaning plugs and injectors when put in fuel. I've also read it does nothing. I haven't read that it's harmful... I need to change my oil this weekend and I was thinking of putting some in and going for a short hop to warm up the engine before draining it. My thoughts are do I really want to cleanout the carbon and gunk? It's currently not leaking and runs fine. Dont touch what aint broke? Other though was how much to add to engine oil. How much to gas? If I do do it I was just going to put it in one tank which only has about 15 gallons in it now. thoughts? Wives tale? Worth doing if you aren't buying the MMO? Worth doing if you did have to pay for the MMO? Is this going to turn into a camguard debate
  10. my zeftronics lasted about 6 months. Support was a pain in the ass. They finally gave me an RMA number. Been a year still havent gotten my money or another voltage regulator. I just bought a Plane Power so when theres a problem the alternator people cant blame the VR and the VR people cant blame the alternator.
  11. do you not have shoulder belts?
  12. howd you swap seats? Isnt the belt attached to the seat?
  13. let us know what you find. Im supposed to change mine next month. really dont want to take the prop off twice
  14. in my computer service business I added 30% markup to anything I ordered... I think its fair for a service biz to upcharge hardware/parts. They have to stock it, order it, return it if its bad/wrong.
  15. Whats that cost? Looking at SB354... Theres 4 grease fittings on the hub. Which are the ones to be greased? My IA just took off one per side and greased until grease came out the removed fitting hole. Now im wondering if we greased the wrong ones or something
  16. what'd that cost? well it was me and I did wipe it off. buut I wonder if one of the fittings is leaking. probably not
  17. Ill try tightening the grease seals. If its a blade seal does that mean overhauling the prop?
  18. I took the spinner off for annual and there was a bunch of grease in a similar pattern as the pic below. Cleaned it up, greased the prop and put the spinner back on. I've flown about 7 hours since and took the spinner back off today for eddy current inspection. Found the same blob. Theres no grease on the hub and I cant tell where the heck it might be coming from. My IA says I have a front crank seal leak but this feels like grease not oil. (fixing that seal next weekend) any ideas?
  19. Backseat guys just got some gun range earplugs. Only a 30min flight anyway. Hey napa county gives you a free bottle of wine when you leave
  20. Long shot but I’m in Watsonville and don’t have enough headsets for some friends that want to fly up to Napa for the day. Anybody got a set or 2 I can borrow?
  21. where on the jack screw? You mean theres a zirc there somewhere? Ill be damned if I can find 11 on the nose either... Somebody needs to post pictures of these hidden zircs. I could only find 7 on the mains including the one in the well aft of the wheel. my prop has 4 but my IA removes 2 opposite each other and pumps till he sees movement through the removed zircs hole.
  22. I still have some of the ones from the thread above. Yours for the cost of shipping and a padded envelope.. When I run out of the ones I had made on the first run I'll probably charge $20 plus shipping in the future.
  23. The politically correct nomenclature is now "sidecutter". I do enjoy scisorring sidecutters though thanks for the info. My safety wiring is so bad I'm sure my IA will just do it himself.
  24. anybody got any idea on the difference in the 391-53s which seems to be 7/16-20 and the 391-72 which is also 7/16-20? Lasar says its the 53s which is $44 but the -72 is only $20-something and seems to cross to the mooney part number.
  25. i still have a few. Send me your address Ill ship you one. Ill charge you for the shipping which for the others was between $5 and $9 depending on if I had to buy a padded envelope at the post office
