TheTurtle replied to TheTurtle's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I think the 22 just does a wider temp range but I cant remember now. 22 is -65 to +204. 6 does -40 to +121 -

Im missing the one in the top left near #20. I put a pic earlier in the thread. No hole there or anything. They must have added it for later models. @Hank has a 70 with that fitting. But I wonder if his gear has ever been replaced. -

For the ones in the front trunion that were missing drilling was getting too sketchy so I overnighted one of these since I cant get these damn zerks off my mind now... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MCZK9M?ref=ppx_pt2_dt_b_prod_image Worked awesome. There's not enough pressure on that bearing that it takes more than hand force to hold the rubber tip in the hole. Grease came out around the trunion. Was thirsty. I still havent found 8 zerks but with all the back and forth and talking with lasar i'm going to say it's not a firm rule. But I can now sleep and forget this issue and will be ready with the right tools and knowledge next annual to make it no big deal. Now who has pics of the "11" in the front -

heres the drill sizes for the drive type zerks https://www.skf.com/alemite/products/industrial-lubrication-fittings/drive-fittings/straight/index.html how do you plan to drill it in place? Isnt there a bearing or something back there? flat tip drill bit? My hole is already bigger than 1/8". I got a long drill bit so I could get to it but got scared I was going to drill to deep so I gave up and ordered one of those rubber tip pointy things to jam in the hole and pump in the grease. I can still see through the hole of the broken zerk. If that doesnt work Ill circle back on a new idea. -

interesting. You are talking about this one right? I would think when they converted from D to C that trunion would have had to be swapped. -

I talked to Dan at Lasar yesterday to ask if there was some difference in the older models as far as number of zircs. He said and I sort of quote. 2 on the elbow(knee ?) on front of wheel 1 behind the wheel 2 on the drag link 2 on the trunion (one front and back) I said; thats only 7. Where are these guys getting 8. He said tell them to lay off the crack pipe. -

@Hank I went out to the plane because I thought I recognized your #1 pic but mine doesnt have a zirc (or hole) there or I'm not orienting pics correctly in my head... You have a 70. Mines a 67. I wonder if they added that fitting later. as far as I can see its really the only place on the gear that looks like it moves and doesnt have a zirc other than the rod ends which or triflowable. -
Propeller Eddy Current Inspection
TheTurtle replied to Nstarbf's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
my NDT guy has never seen it on a mooney hub. $400 out here. 2 hour min but I can never get any other mooneys to come over and do theirs at the same time and split the bill. -

Was able to replace one press in zirc. Theres 2 that still have some remains of the broken off one. My pick bends trying to get the pieces out so need to go find a different tool that won't break or leave shavings behind if I drill them. More importantly. Wheres that 8th zirc!!!! Arggh -
Question on the gear puck inspection. According to the manual at static weight the puck can have a gap to the collar of 7/16" but on jacks it should be 0". This hurts my brain. Why would those specs be the case. I would think with the plane on jacks you should have more not less gap to the collar. as an aside. What was the shock on the gear for? Why did they remove it? I have the attachment point but its never had a shock and I vaguely remember reading on here there was an AD or SB to remove it.

I'm not sure that's possible. They are so buttery smooth now they cant get much better I have to go through my log books. I would swear they were changed in the 90's sometime. Maybe that was just the nose. Cant get anything by you guys!! -

I got a bunch of new press in and screw in from lasar. Now just trying to find all the holes!! -
I went out to the bird to try to track down the elusive 8 zircs per main gear. I can only find 6. Can somebody give me a hint on where the other 2 are? Since I havent found pics of the zircs on this site I figured I would start a gallery on how to find your zircs. Ill do the nose after I find that last 2 on the main. I circled with question marks the only places I thought there should be a zirc but couldnt find one or even a hole where one should be. My #4 zirc is missing. Ive replaced it once but looks like it got yanked out at annual again.

Banning pass isnt bad at night. Banning airport still sketches me out though with the base leg straight at this black hole thats actually a mountain. Whats really sketchy is coming back from Havasu at night. It is DARK. Like OMG I should be instrument rated im glad my cfi is sitting here dark. Until you get to 29 palms it was unnerving. 29 palms to the ocean its never really night.

owner assist annual is on week 4 now. Got 90% done and it was to windy to swing gear and then got to late to do the timing. It's rained every saturday since then. I'm going to take a day off work the next sunny day we have to finish the damn thing.
