  1. What editing software do you use. I'm thinking about trying Premiere CC. Tim
  2. What is on these shirts?
  3. Chris, that looks nice. Did they have to get approval to use carbon fiber?
  4. I bought my wife the A20s for Christmas but I still like my Lightspeed Zulu 2 better as far as comfort. I haven't tried them in the plane yet but I'll give them a try side by side in the plane like you did. I have to get another set for passengers so I'll have to get another set soon so we'll see if I get the A20 or the passengers get a Zulu 2. You make a good point about the Blue Tooth so if the Zulu isn't as good I'll get them the Bose. For me it's not a big deal.
  5. I'm in the same boat as Lance...this is a dream. 'Stopped flying in '97, started flying again in September to get my Instrument rating (paid by others), flew my first Mooney in December for 1.7 hours. From September to December I got about 65 hours. Hopefully the Mooney deal will come through in February and I'll continue on with Commercial I'll and multi for 2016. Tim
  6. Francis, If you pass on the deal let me know. I am looking at a '65 E model and it has the prop hub that requires the 100 hour inspection so I'm considering replacing the hub so this would be a good time to change the spinner. It has the mod under the spinner but like others said I would need to make sure it would look ok without doing one of the more detailed cowl modifications. If there is a significant performance/looks upgrade with using the new cowl that's being worked on or an existing mod, I might change the cowl. I know the new cowl being developed might have a spinner option. Tim
  7. Learning the OBS feature helps too if you have an unpublished hold. Tim
  8. Oh ya, I spent an hour de-icing the rental plane the other day only to find out it had a gear horn failure. No ice in a hangar other than for your drinks.
  9. My T hangar is $370 with an office which is a bit high for this location but the airport is really nice. Insurance is cheaper and I would think it helps keep bugs out of the tubes and holes. I think it's so important that when one became available I jumped on it this month even though I won't have the plane till February. Tim
  10. Brian, I agree, they are nice. I hope I don't wake them up when I start my plane up at 6 am. Tim
  11. I did forget to mention that it has the electronic ignition and engine monitor. I will probably take it to Fieldtech at Meacham for the 430 upgrade to WAAS. Has anyone had any experience with them and their Mooney?
  12. The E and J are right up the street from me and the next taxiway over from my hangar so I'm saving a lot of money there. I know the E has been pampered as I found out when I was removing the inspection plates and poked my head or a mirror everywhere I could. I know Don Maxwell brought it current in 2008 and it has been in a apartment/hangar since and VFR only. They have both been taken care of and the AI is verifying all the AD's have been performed. I really hate to change anything on it because it looks as good as a perfect restoration so other than some instrumentation I won't do too much for a while. (Ya, right). It's kind of like buying a restored '50 VW Beetle and making it a Baja. Paul, I'm envious of the AP but it will have to wait for a while. I've got to go to Lakeway soon (to see some friends), I'll give you a shout, maybe I can drop by and see your C.
  13. This is not a corporate situation. This plane is for me. I'm paying for it. I want to fly around for personal reasons...not work. That should keep the train on track. For all those that stayed on topic, thanks. I knew if I started to answer too many personal questions the can of worms would open. So keeping my original idea for this post...basically the E and the J are very similar in performance for solo, or with the wife, so since I don't want to make a huge investment the E may be the way to go
  14. By the way, what is AMU. The E is in better shape but the J...I don't want to say this due to the back lash...had a G500. Ouch, that hurts to admit. I flew my Instrument Examiner's '65 E and was very impressed. I think it will fit the mission nicely.
  15. What is the carrying capacities of these two planes?
  16. The issue is the price of around $50k instead of $115-&130k. I know I'll be past that amount with the E mods...windshield, avionics, and auto pilot. However, they are willing to invest the initial price of the E and I can work on the rest.
  17. I'm in a bit of a dilemma about performance in a 1965 E and a 1990 J. My question is if I put the mods on the E how will it compare to the J? I flew a 1965 E the other day with the mods and loved it. If I remember right we were at 140 Kts and about 8.5 gph. I saw Soarbird's video in his J and he was getting about the same numbers at 10000'. Is this about right, an E with the upgrades will be about like a J? Thanks Tim
  18. Never mind. I figured it out. A guy was selling a set that his wife used for 2 hours and I was going to get them for PAX. But they're not BT
  19. I practiced that today in the 172. I like it. Made me a bit nervous on the first approach but the second landing it felt good.
  20. Yep, really nice folks. I was the one flying 172RG last month doing night landings for Commercial when the alternator quit after leaving KMWL. Lucky Andrew failed the gear on me one day and made me practice manual gear extension because they don't work well without electric. After I landed I had to use my flashlight out the window to find the yellow taxi lines to taxi back. The tower said ATC received my 7600 squawk code just before it went black and they heard the broken transmission that I had lost electrical. It was the old King radio they picked me up on before it all went black. Ah...good times.
  21. I just finished instrument training all in a 172RG, which by the way is N172RG...ATC gets a kick out of that when they ask during flight following what the aircraft type is. ATC doesn't like you slowing down more than 3 minutes out from your IAF. I have not acquired the plane yet. The boss called today and wanted to know if we should get something with more capacity and speed. I told him an Ovation would fit that description but we need to make sure it will work for the company (I know, go for it, but I'm also responsible for the company's bottom line). I think he wanted to use it as a taxi (please don't get into that discussion here, I already know about it..lol).
  22. First time getting insurance. Has anyone used Aviation Solutions? Looks like Starr Aviation is getting me the best rates. Tim
  23. What about IFR? Are you guys putting the gear out before the IAF or FAF? I got in a bad habbit of putting the gear down way before I got to the inbound course but towards the end of training I worked it out to stay within the 3 minute mark of the inbound course. And that was only 120kts. Good grief, I may blow past the inbound course now. LOL I'm sure I'll work out what's best for me during training. Tim
