If it was $4.5 - 5K I wouldn't of installed it as that is not a good value. At $2500 still a little pricey but lots cheaper then an ASPEN. (which I would love to have). Any shop installing this for $4k even with the external antenna is gouging you.

My G5 installed was $2500. $2100 for the unit and $400 for the install and certification. They just basically remove the old attitude indicator and plug this one into power & the pitio static system.
-
I believe the G5 comes with an internal GPS (which is disabled when its coupled with the 430). With the way GPS technology is these days it probably doesn't need an external antenna. The cost installed was $2,500 to couple with the 430. Since I had a new Garmin GTX 345 transponder installed at the same the IFR certification was included in the total cost.

Not sure it always seems to be around 98-99%

Well I broke down and got the Garmin G5 indicator to replace my AH. Wow!! what a indicator? All the data at one glance, airspeed, altitude, ground track, ground speed, and of course the artificial horizon. Its nice to have all that information on one device, I mean I still do my instrument scans, but at a quick glance its very helpful. The only thing I need my vacuum pump for is to run the autopilot so I am screwed if the alternator and battery ever dies. Now for my rant, while I am happy with the G5 the only difference in this and the one for the experimental aircraft is a feature unlock on the device. Yes the STC's version has features restricted (for $1K more in price). For the most part I don't think I would use many of the restricted features that much so no great loss, but its just the point of the matter.

If anyone is interested I just listed my SkyGuard ADSB Transceiver on Ebay ( #222312312470 ). This unit has worked great, however I had to replace my transponder in the Mooney and decided to go with a Garmin solution to the 430w Any questions just let me know.

I have the tube and the stick if you need to replace. I think it was off a 0320 but I think they are similar. Its sitting in my junk box, so if you think you can use it just let me know and I will part with it pretty cheep. Neal

My rudder boots inside the plane are shot. Where is a good source to get a replacement? Any ideas on cost? Thanks Neal

Does anyone have any good Recording App recommendations for Android for cockpit recording? Lightspeed has a App for the IOS called FlightLink but nothing for Android yet. I bought a cable that I can plug into the headphone jack of the plane, and want to connect it to the Tablet while flying to record the communications. There are a zillion recording apps in the Play store, but figure someone has already gone this route. Thanks FB

Oh sure don't Capitalize the Coast Guard... Whats up with that?? 29 years strong in the CG Reserves.

So just curious, why couldn't a person take a 2000 watt voltage inverter, connected to the battery and run a small 5000btu AC unit. Have the vent blow out the rear of the airplane and put the unit in the cargo area. The weight would be the same as the ICE bucket more or less, and the AC unit would only draw up to 15amps (AC). Get the one with remote control and you are all set.

My friend had to basically scrap a Aerocoupe because of all the corrosion the mouse droppings caused. I would be very very cautious.

I just bought a G last year. I am not sure if this is a down or upgrade since my last plane was a Cherokee Six. Different missions for different times. I like my G, I need the back seat for the kids and while it doesn't have the 200hp, it still climbs well enough and is only about 5 knots slower in cruise. Pay now or pay later, but if you can find a good G for a reasonable price I would go with it. If you a G I would be happy to compare notes. FB

I made my own base on the chart in this tread. When using it compared to my fuel gauges and fuel flow, its really close.I have a M20G with 52 gallon tanks. Neal
-
Hmm, interesting on your fuel flow. Its advertised to decrease fuel consumption. How about your climb rate? What do you factor that to have increased by?
-
Is that a tuned exhaust? Does it offer the same advantages of a PowerFlow?
-
In the discussion below about swapping out the 180hp for a 200hp, is the Powerflow a reasonable option for the money ~$4k for the 180hp engine? Powerflow states installed in over 400 Mooneys. Are any of those Mooney owners here? I would like to hear some real world feedback. Thanks Neal M20G

Id like a ride in a M20G- SoCal
FlyboyKC replied to TheTurtle's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Ditto to the above. 700 -800 fpm at aroung 135-140kts tas at 9 gph. Nice cruiser if you can get one at a cheap price. -
I would be interested as well.

This is what my current panel looks like. Everything works except the stormscope. It works when it wants too. Neal
-
Sweet! I have a 68 M20G. Does that panel make coffee and serve booze?
-
Gsengle, Nice panel.

I am on the avionics shop schedule for a new transponder with ADSB out. I have a Garmin 430w in the plane now and was leaning for the Garmin ADSB transponder with both in and out. I wanted to get a feel for what other users might be doing? I saw the Stratus advertised but it didn't look like it had the in option. Thoughts? Neal

I am not all that concerned because these things vary from year to year. I am happy with the work and the IA, and wouldn't have any reservations about using/recommending him again. However, moving from a Piper to a Mooney, I hadn't had any baselines for whats normal or abnormal. With the valuable responses people have given me, the amount I am putting away towards annuals seems to be in the ballpark. Like you said if I actually get a gift, then great! another toy or future improvement for the bird. I would just hate to be the other way in the rears...
