Thanks! I also use Aeroshell 15W-50... FYI, Kellerheartt has a pretty good deal right now on a case for $88... and if you use the code "OIL5" you get an additional 5% off - plus free shipping!
-
Since we are on the topic of oil, where do you guys usually buy your oil? Last time, I bought a case from Sporty's... Seemed like a good deal but not a GREAT deal.
-
I do every 50. Never any issues. Modern day oil is pretty impressive stuff.

^ Yeah that! Please hangar your new plane and don't let it dissolve in the open salty air! It deserves to be hangared!
-
I'm out of Reno, and usually head to destinations West of here... Count me in on a local meet-up too!
-
I almost purchased that plane before I found my "C" last year! Enjoy it!!

I don't eve have an alternator annunciator light in my plane! How hard/expensive would it be to have one installed? Seems simple enough.

But is that magnetic course or magnetic heading displayed on Foreflight? Pretty sure it's just magnetic course... And thinking back to private pilot 101 this is simply the course over ground taking into consideration variation (depending on where you are on the Earth). The only way it could be accurate magnetic heading is if the iPad is aligned perfectly straight with the airplane... And then of course it would still have have a calibrated correction card for deviation within the aircraft.

Not technically in CA, but still very close is Minden, NV - which has the fantastic little "Taildragger Cafe" that you can pull right up to! Epic views of the Eastern Sierra's. South Lake Tahoe has a little cafe as well, but I don't like it as much as Minden. I second Little River. I flew in there a few months back... Great little (often forgotten) airport with super easy access to Little River (city) and Mendocino! Watch out for the marine layer. Auburn's cafe is great, but also don't forget about Knee Deep Brewing Co. which is right on the airport - easy to fill up some growlers!!
-
Foreflight gives you your course over the ground though... Which can be significantly different than magnetic heading if you have any winds. Just remember, ATC is expecting you to fly a heading, not a course.

Thanks for all the great info guys! Only thing that makes me a little weary is that this Lycoming SI seems to make it very clear to NOT use a graphite-based anti seize compound... and it looks like that permatex has a blend that includes graphite? Do think I'd be ok just using a little oil? http://www.lycoming.com/Portals/0/Upload/SI1042AA_2_17_15.pdf

I posted this on another thread, but I feel like it's long lost and I need some answers... so here is a new one! I'll admit, I'm totally knew to this and I've never replaced spark plugs. As I understand it, it's a pretty simple/basic task, but just want to make sure I'm doing it right. I just ordered some Tempest UREM37BY's to replace my old Champion REM40E's. What do I need to know about putting these guys in? It's a O-360-A1A in my M20C. I'm going to buy a new socket that will fit the spark plug, because I don't think I currently have one deep enough that will reach over the entire spark plug. What kind of torque setting should I use? Is the gap set properly out of the box, or will I need to adjust that? Is there a preferred gap to use within the recommended range? I'm also thinking that buying a new set of copper gaskets would be smart... does anyone know if 18mm is the correct size? Can I use engine oil to lube the threads before installing? Any tips appreciated. Sorry for all the questions, just want to get my order from AircraftSpruce squared away!

Carbureted o-360 engine CHT/EGT temps on climb out?

Cool. I'm going to go ahead and try it... I will report back! -
Carbureted o-360 engine CHT/EGT temps on climb out?

I have Champion 40's in my C. Maybe I should throw in some Tempest 37BY's and see if it makes a difference! I also have a barely noticeable stubble/miss as well I'd love to get rid of. The 37's are supposedly the "coolest" running plugs, right? -
Just spray on, wipe off. No scrubbing! I used microfiber rags. One pass to get the major grime off, then another pass with a cleaner rag for good measure! It's magical stuff.
-
It was pretty grimy underneath! I haven't cleaned the underside of my plane since owning it!
-
I didn't believe that it would work as well as everyone says... I was wrong. This task (that I was originally dreading) turned out to be fast, easy, and.... almost fun?
-
LOL, and what is the drop off point?! [emoji1]

Nice write up! How much was the install?

April fools, haha! You had me for a half a second.

Carbureted o-360 engine CHT/EGT temps on climb out?
xrs135 replied to Wesley brown's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I honestly wouldn't worry about it. C's run hot... they always have, and and they always will... and plenty of them make it to TBO. They aren't exceeding Lycoming's "true" redline of 500F. I see probably 405-435 on mine during climb out no matter what I do. Cylinder 4 being my hottest cylinder right at 435... and all the others somewhere in the previously mentioned range. My cowl flaps are adjustable and rigged to open more than than the factory calls for, I have about 120hrs on a major overhauled engine - everything is new firewall forward... oil consumption 1qt/14hrs, FF is adjusted properly, doghouse is immaculate, I have the ARI cowl mod, and I climb at 120-130. I've stopped worrying about it. When I level off in cruise, and close the cowl flaps, #4 sits just below 400, and all the other are between 360-385. My stock CHT gauge looks exactly like yours does in the video during climb. I have the EDM700 in my plane to verify all the temps... but honestly it's more frustrating having a JPI on a carbureted engine with the uneven fuel distribution than it's worth. Back in the 60's/70's people didn't have all this fancy equipment to monitor temps, and they just had that crappy stock gauge (which if you go by that, the CHT's are within limits, even though they are "high" by modern-day standards.) They flew their planes, leaned by pulling the mixture out until roughness, then kicked it in a little bit... no "lean assist" or anything like that. These planes have been operated like this for their entire flying life, and they are still going. Bottom line is that the C just isn't that efficient when it comes to engine cooling. Would I like it to run cooler? Sure. But at the same time, I try not to worry about it too much, and just fly my plane. Oh, and reference one of the previous posts... My landing light seems to have no effect on CHT's indications on the stock gauge. -

What kind of CHTs are you seeing? -
Caravan formation flying clinic in Madison before EAA??? Any chance?
xrs135 replied to MooneyPTG's topic in Mooney Caravan
I would DEFINITELY be interested in something like this!! Yuma just isn't going to work for me this year, but I'd still love to be able to participate in the Caravan! -
I just put an Artex ELT1000 in mine.

Wow. More original rubber donuts out there than I thought! I guess they made some heavy duty rubber back in the day!
