  1. Can't really tell from that photo unfortunately... though unlike the Ovation the back baffling seems to run in a straght line.
  2. Fellow Mooniacs & Ovation drivers, How is the baffling seal set up behind the engine on your Ovations? I am specifically thinking of the center section which is not straight but has a "zig-zag" sort of bend sort of between the magnetoes. I am puzzled as to how best attach the baffling seal so that it remains in contact with the cowl when it is bent forward. Would anyone care to share a photo of their setup?
  3. Another less evident trick is make sure all the apps you do not need are closed (instead of just being in the background and drawing power). Double click the home button and close all the apps (swipe up) you do not need. Also remember that the aluminium back case is in fact a heat sink, so if you have it enclosed in a kneepad thing it sort of defeats the purpose...
  4. If you press the "dimmer" red button (right of the annunciator panel) the gear indicator will cycle back to bright even with the nav lights on. It was part of my "gotcha list" during conversion training.
  5. No timer switch on the early ovations . Previous owner specifically cautioned me to pay attention to it.
  6. Hi David - you may want to contact Fritz Kaiser on this forum who drives a Bayern-based Ovation. Otherwise I can fly up some day some place nice close to Frankfurt. I'm not too tall and I don't feel claustrophobic in it. The view isn't helicopter like but not tank-slit like either. It has a lower tail stance on the ground so maybe that's where the restricted view comes from. In flight I can't complain.
  7. Thank you all for the tips. Must add that both 97-3 and 20-107 have been done. Unfortunately being based in Europe I can't visit the suggested shops, but a phonecall can't hurt I guess!
  8. I'm landing with boost pump off as idle power with low boost causes a rich cut.
  9. A recurring problem that sofar no A&P managed to solve properly for me - when pulling to idle upon landing with a warm / hot engine it'll hiccup and die upon rollout most of the time (though annoyingly never in front of the A&P). Obviously rather annoying depending on where one lands at. And I'd rather not carry extra power all the time "just in case". Other than the Continental setup directive, any tips from the other users?
  10. Ipad cigarette lighte adapters should handle 12 and 24v equally well, but worth a check on the label before plugging it in :-)
  11. The previous owner of my Ovation had to fix the door after having it open on a ramp and being treated with KingAir prop wash. Getting one that fits properly was more of a problem than the actual swap.
  12. New year, new niggles… The Ovation I doesn’t have a vacuum gauge but rather a vacuum “caution light” which either flashes with low vac or lights up steady with hi vac pressure. Mine came on steady intermittently at high rpm. Switching the standby vac on sometimes made it go off, sometimes not, just going off on its own. Any ideas as to what could cause it – vac pump going bad or something more sinister?
  13. Re - assymetric flap deployment. Are they not driven by a unique torque-rod, which in turn is driven by one motor? Hard to see how one would deploy more than the other...
  14. It can well be that the Chinese decide they do not want to support two products that cannibalize each other and focus on the one with the better growth prospects - i.e. diesel, and put out a swap offer to current avgas engine operators...
  15. How could Bud have "red-line torque" and "normal power indications" with feathered props?!
  16. Thank you for the welcome! Total is 120 gal. Short of trusting the gauges, I have no means of knowing for sure what I begin with short of draining the tanks and pouring it all back in (which I would rather avoid...). Once the initial figure is known, I have no issues relying on fuel totaliser / hourly burn etc. I just need to figure out where I start from
  17. Thank you! Does that mean that below 30 gallons nothing flows into the extra tanks?
  18. Very good morning everyone! A point puzzles the new Ovation owner that I am - there is a conversion factor to be applied for the cockpit fuel gauges when the Monroy tanks are installed. However I've found nothing with regards to the wing tank gauge readings. Obviously some correction needs to be applied, but how to determine it? Same ratio as for the cockpit gauge? Different ratio? Help and pointers greatly appreciated!
