Same here, I usually take off with out it, and once stablished in cruise I put it on, then when finished reviewing my approach and have the airport in sight, I remove it again for the landing phase... I can fly with it attached, but just feel more comfortable without it during the critical takeoff and landing phases...

Yeah, but how many flights or hours of flights, according to the manifacturers, if you use the mask, you are using 4 times more than the cannula, but then again, over FL180, you have no choice... I have not yet gone over FL180 since I'm not rated IFR, but looking forward doing it with a friend CFI soon!!!

Did you guys mean the tow limits on the Jeep or on the Mooney... I can understand for the jeep, but is there any tow limits for the Mooney, don't remember that in the POH, is it speed wise for the nose gear ??? Just wondering...

Sorry if this seems to be a highjack of tread... Here a question then, I know it not really about cheap headsets, but I have a halo ( that I don't use anymore but it is there in case I need it ), and I have a Zulu.2 ANR that I use as a primary headset. I also have a cheap ASA headset for the occasional passenger and 2 x Pilot USA Cadet Headsets for my son and if I bring other kids ( I use to do at least once a year a day of charity flights for sick children with the Beech Sundowner I use to rent ). Now with the Mooney Rocket, I find it to be quite louder at higher RPM's in flight comparing to the Sundowner and I am wondering if I shouldn't buy ANR headsets for my son as well. He is 8 so most adult headsets are a bit big for him and they don't seem to be a lot of choices for ANR headsets for kids. He has not gone up with me on the Mooney yet, but will be doing that as soon as it is repaired. My other option is to give him the Zulu.2 and buy my self a Zulu PFX or Bose... So If you were me, and money was an impediment but protecting my son's ear is more important, what would you do ?

wow, talk about an amazing find, I went to a little medical device boutique today near my work and they have a whole setup to fill up tank with Medical grade O2, total cost for my 22 cubic foot tank was 26.50$, tough to beat that at that price...

Same here, it seems that my cowl flaps are forced opened mostly by the air flow pressure on takeoff and pretty hard to close once you level off...

Thanks again Erik, actually water in the thank is one of my big concerns, for some reason, my right wing fuel tank has always water in it when I drain it from under the wing... not the left wing tank, I think I have a sealant issue with the fuel cap... I have not worried about it too much yet since I have only flown the plane in the summer and always drain the water during my walk around, but I guess I have to make sure it is fixed for the winter and be even more cautious... Water at FL150 or higher freezing is the tank would not be fun at all I would imagine...

Thanks Carusoam, the comment about heater at FL150 was the cabin heater, not the engine heater of course... I think I will research it more and have it added at our next annual...

Thanks to all for advice, Erik here is my situation : I am in a heated hanger, this is my 1st year ownership of the Rocket and the hanger belongs to the co-owner of the plane. I don't know what temperature he leaves the hanger at, but it has both electric and gas powered heating system. As for the Turbo Reiff system, is this something that is permanently installed on the engine or is it put it on, take it off... I say this because I don't feel like removing the cowling each time, I fly often alone and the cowling is pretty big and heavy to handle easily alone.... For the Cowl Flaps and not full power, I will arrange my check list for winter operations, thanks for those as well... Where would one buy aviation Prist, I'm guessing it's not the same as for automotive use, I will look it up. As for heating, I have #58 Rocket conversion according to Lin at Rocket engineering, so not sure which heating system I have, but I feel that it heats pretty good when I have flown it at FL150, so hopefully I got the better heater in there, is there a way to check ? Thanks !!!

Hi, Well a bit depressed waiting for Rocket to repair my collector/transition turbo before I can fly again, it looks like it is going to be sometime near the end of October start of November and with that tought, I was thinking that I probably need to winterize the Rocket before long. My Mechanic showed me that I have intercoolers on top of the engine, so I guess it is because of all that power and it can get hot, but wondering what needs to be done on the K model body and Rocket engine in particular for winter, mind you I live in Montreal, so it gets cold here and lasts several months... My google search brought up some oil cooling issues from an MS post, but not a detailed solution to remediate that, specially flying cold and high ( FL150 to FL180 ) Thanks for any advice !!!

So I have been looking around and it seems that for me to have a refilling setup in my hangar, it would take about 1K$, including rent for 2 x 330 cubic feet tanks medical grade and O2, connections and all... So not a small investment, and I'm not sure how many times I can fill up my 22 cubic feet with those tanks, since when the pressure is low, I will need a refill, so can't really count on being able to really empty the tank according to the vendor I have been talking to, but having 2 tanks kinds of resolves that issue, but still... On the other hand, I have found a medical clinic in town that is willing to fill up my tank with medical grade O2 for about 40$ to 50$ , without any hassle , so I think I will start that way and then eventually see how many times a year do I really need to fill up and if having all that setup is really worth it. I'm thinking that maybe paying a bit more each time and not have to make a big initial investment and all the hassle that goes with it might be worth it...

Same here, the foam tips are useless in winter, they get way too hard and won't stay in the ear.. I used the halo and liked them for almost 2 years, but once I got a Zulu.2, it was obvious that the ANR part of it is worth it. I use to get fatigued with the halo, I understood after flying a while with the Zulu and not getting fatigued that it was caused by noise fatigue.. I use the halo now as an emergency spare or for passengers...

I would appreciate getting that information.. Thanks !!!!

Hi, Since I don't have an oxygen refilling provider at my local airport and it is expensive and a hassle to fly to a nearby airport where the have, to pay the exorbitant 75$ of refill and 20$ of landing fee each time I need to fill it up, I have decided to set something up in my hangar. After contacting several O2 providers in the region, I have found couple of them that actually can do delivery to my local airport. Their business is usually supplies O2 to welder shops or medical clinics. According to both, their medical grade O2 should be better or as good as the O2 I'm getting from the other airport. I have absolutely no knowledge of the different grade of O2 when refilling, can someone point me to the right direction. I obviously don't want to put my life or those of my passengers in any undue risk. I'm fully equipped now with O2 pulse oximeters and spare emergency tank for 2... Thanks !!!

Wow, I would love to be the co-pilot on one of those flights !!

Is this installed in the plane or portable ?

Just talked to Lyn from Rocket, very nice and helpfull guy, now we are off to see if we had the AD applied and see if we had the old or the newer piping... The fun begins...
-
Ok, thanks, I hope it is not as major, too bad it can't be welded in place...
-
5000$ for the repair ???
-
Not sure if it is the thicker stock or not, since I have nothing to compare it with. From the mechanic's indication, it is the Transition Turbo pipe, it's like a spyder 6 path metalic tubes that leave the engine and join up to go to the turbo and also the exhaust, so not the exhaust it self, but just before. Thanks for the info, maybe Rocket can do the same for us, not sure how long it would take... Can you tell me here or IM me on what was the turn around time and cost... Thanks !!!
-
Yeah, going from the engine right Under the cylinders to the turbo...

Hi, After my little worries couple of weeks ago with the Rocket, I had my trusted mechanic take a complete look at the engine, good news is that engine is fine, bad news is we found 2 issues, 1st is an oil leak from the quick drain plug and more serious is a small crack in the Transition Turbo pipe... The crack is half of an inch at a join, my mechanic says that the whole pipe is one piece and needs to be replaced or repaired... I already called Rocket Engenierring this morning, but I guess they are still a sleep on the west coast, but was wondering if anyone has seen this and what kind of cost figures am I looking at. Thanks for any opinions...

wow, I would love to see a picture of the the whole panel. I got an JPI 700 EDM and looking to replace it in the next couple of years with something more modern...
