Need help with eletric stuff - 1989 M20J MSE
Tércio Rodrigues replied to Tércio Rodrigues's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
carusoam, N201MK, cliffy, gjensen and N601, Thanks a lot for all the advices. I have an update: our GNS430, which was damaged in the electrical failure, and revised in the US by Garmin, just went out again. It might be just a screen problem, but it may be another font damage font due to a short, and I'm starting to think that I have at least 3 events related to it (2 times damage on the equipment itself, and the PTT - oil pressure issue, just on transmitting modes). I'm going to start checking the instalation looking for shorts, as well as for grounding problems. It would be weird, because it was installed at least 10 years ago, but it's actually the newest equipment installed. Thanks again for the help! Tércio -
Guys! Need your help again with some issues on my 1989 M20J MSE. Few months ago I had a major electrical failure (you can read here), and now, after lots of avionics repair, we're getting things as they were before, little by little. But still got some annoying troubles: - We had our R1 Eletronics International Tach replaced by a new one, but now we have approx. 30-60 RPM error, for example, at T/O, full power, full high RPM, the tach displays 2730-2740, and once the plane starts rolling, it may rise to 2760. We have no reasons to believe that the prop its really at more than 2700 since with the old R1 it never excedded it, and any adjustment was made at the governor, and we had checked rotational speed with a Tuning Fork (is this the right english term to reffer to it?) and it indicated 2700, full power, full rpm. We had not replaced the mag sensors, though, we are using the old ones. Do you think this could be the problem? - We replaced our Gauge Cluster, but sometimes, when you push PTT (both sides), the oil pressure indication drop till yellow arc. This happens on both radios (GNS430 and KX155), on transmitting modes. It seems to happen with frequencies higher than 130,00 MHz, but I'm not sure of this and if it has anything to do with it. - Our EGT/OAT (B & D P/N 0230-003, Mooney P/N 880001-509) is out of work: I know it gets energized, because it is noticeable when I pull the CB, but it just give wrong indications such as -30°C when the real OAT its like 30°C, and no rise in EGT at all while leaning. - Finally, the interior lights seem to be flashing at very high frequency, slower when the engine is at slower speeds, and higher, when the engine is at higher speeds. During flight its almost imperceptible, but during taxi its quite clear. Some general info: its a 28V system, SN 24-3139. We have replaced the Voltage Regulator and tested it several times in the plane (direct in the VR and with a multimeter through the cig lighter) and it seems pretty steady on the correct range. And at last, but not least, I am (as does the plane) in Brazil, so all of these nice avionics shops you guys indicates here at Mooneyspace are sadly unavailable for me! So, any help will be much appreciated!!! Tércio

Thanks, Bob! I've just sended yesterday my pump to revision, I supose its either the impeller or a broken shaft, too, as you said, my symptoms were the same. Bill, I'm going to try rebuilt my pump, since I'm in Brazil and getting parts from the US its big trouble, big time, and big money, but thanks for sharing, I'll let you know if by any chance I need yours! Regards!

Bob, have you find out what was the problem? I'm having the same issue on my 8163A Weldon.

grami-air, I don't want to seem alarming, but I would check everithing carrefully before flying again!!!! Does your light flashes intermittently all the times or sometimes it just stops? I had this issue too, and that's what happened to me: http://mooneyspace.com/topic/9660-alternator-field-1-circuit-breaker-in-climb/?p=150208 Good luck!

If a digital copy works for you you may try this: http://mooney.free.fr/ -
Guys, please, I need your help! I'm willing to buy this tach (http://www.ebay.com/itm/B-D-TACHOMETER-P-N-0520-003-/171348387858?pt=Motors_Aviation_Parts_Gear&hash=item27e528e812&vxp=mtr) to replace mine but I was told that my sender might be damaged. Do you know what is the correct P/N for the sender of it? Does the sender includes the Tach Gen? Any of you have a spare one? It is difficult to find? My IPM says tha TACH GEN (B & D INSTR) P/N is 880053-501, but Mooney P/Ns make me confuse... I'm attaching a photo of the one I removed. Thanks!!

Wanted: RPM Tach for M20J MSE
Tércio Rodrigues replied to Tércio Rodrigues's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
Cabanaboy and Marauder, thanks for your reply! Actually, I have one of this R-1, but it's damaged and I was looking for the original one because I'm not sure if the R1 is certified for it. That's why I asked about the TSO, PMA and STC... Do you know something on it? Thanks!- 4 replies

Hello everyone! I'm looking for a tachometer for a 1989 M20J MSE, 28V, IPM says it's P/N is 880039-515, anyone have a spare one? My hole is 2-1/4'' And still, how can I find a tachometer compatible and aprooved for my plane? And if it's not too much to ask, could anyone explain to me the difference between TSO, PMA and STC? Thanks!

Alternator Field 1 Circuit Breaker in climb
Tércio Rodrigues replied to M252's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
M252, I had some of the symptoms you mentioned in my 1989 M20J: Volts warning flashing intermittently during warm up, climb, cruise or descent, in a few flights. Then in one day, the CB of the Annunciator Panel had poped out, giving me the idea that the problem was in the Panel, not in the electrical system. Later that flight, we had a major short, with smell of acid of the battery in the cabin and smoke in the CB panel. I turned Master OFF, 7 CB (ADF, Radio Blower, COMM1 (this was the the one with GNS430), and the others I can't remember) had popped out, the result was landing after manually extending landing gear, no flaps, no radio, and all avionics and instrument cluster damaged. We later discovered that the Main Battery CB positive touched the metal panel frame, making a short in the field. There was a small piece of rubber isolating the CB and the frame, but the vibration and friction damaged it. I can't say yet if the problem I had was only related to the short in the battery CB, or if it had something else to do with the Volts Light flashing. My plane should have a VR802, but I then find that it was replaced (don't know why) in the early 90s by a VR415F. Its a 28 Volts System, with only one Regulator, M20J Serial 24-3139. Sorry about the english, I'm not native, so not familiarized with technical terms. Hope to help you to finding the problem! -
FS: Various Parts from M20K
Tércio Rodrigues replied to DaveAnderson's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
David, is your M20K 14 or 28V? I'm interested on your Instrument Cluster. -
KSMooniac, I suppose it would not work... My Serial is 24-3139 and I think there's no way round of the voltage diference... But I'll check it with my mechanic. On your previous message, I tried Don Maxwell, but he prefered not to envolve since I was already in contact with Mooney. I'm actually starting to think that the $500 bill Mooney presented me isn't as bad as I thought.... The worse to cope is 120 days lead time. Anyway, thanks for your help, I'll keep in touch!

Bob, I've sended Chief a request, let see if they have one alternate for me. I also contacted Mooney, but they gave me a $2418,47 budget... They also told me the alternate P/N is 940170-501 of Internation Avionics but I couldn'f find any International Avionics website or so... And I think the original regulator PN is only VR802, but I'm just guessing...
-
KSMooniac, thanks! I will try to buy a Zeftronics new one. Please, let me know when you check your PN. Cruiser, thanks for the help, will contact these guys! Bob, do you remember what model you've buyed? Is your M20J 28V? Thanks!

Hello fellows, I'm looking for m20j Instrument Cluster, Oil and Fuel Transducer and Voltage Regulator. The P/N are bellow: Instrument Cluster - P/N 640281-523 Transducer Amplifier Fuel - P/N 950D0311-001 Transducer Amplifier Oil Pressure - P/N 950D0311-003 Voltage Regulator (28V) - Electrodelta VR802 (or any alternate, Mooney informed me that actual alternate P/N is 940170-501) Regards Tércio
