  1. I generally did them in this order when warmish… 1. Hot start 2. Normal prime, normal start 3. Flood it, flooded start. Don’t remember getting to #3 more than once or twice in 10 years. Fyi, I always prime with throttle full open, mix full rich as that’s the most flow.
  2. Got it, thanks! Looks like a two person job to get that down while holding it up and having enough arms left to disconnect vents and wires!
  3. Are you guys saying there’s no way to remove the headliner without cutting around the wemac vents? I was contemplating removing it topaint it, but maybe it’s easier left in place? If so, did you just carefully mask up the entire cabin and paint it in place? That seems difficult as well…
  4. No matter how you eventually resolve this, let us know. I’m sure others will eventually benefit from your unfortunate experience.
  5. If you’re grounded (or soon to be) anyway, i might take it out, disassemble, clean the internals, and test the motor on a clean 24v source just to make sure it’s not something with the wiring or switches.
  6. This does seem like a good idea. I wonder if lasar are willing to stock some parts like that and have capital to do it…
  7. Unfortunately, it would take a pretty significant change as there’s quite a lot of force on it both open and closed. The motor seems to act as the “brake” as well. I think there’s a thread where someone tried that and eventually gave up.
  8. Yeesh, that’s scary. Heres my thoughts… first, I was having an issue with mine no more than 4 months ago and I contacted Globe / Allied at the Alabama facility and they said they could overhaul it if required… are you sure you were talking to the Alabama folks? The accent left no doubt for me. However, maybe something has changed there… Second, are you sure it’s the motor and not the limit switches? I think there’s a similar setup to the flaps where there’s an up and down limit switch, and those would be more likely to fail. Good luck!
  9. A picture would help, but it’s probably the thing that’s not required.
  10. It is very easy to overload if you put in 4+ people and try to fly 800nm. Baggage area is max 100lbs too. It’s a very nice 4 seater, but yes, i bet a lot of people overload them, 500hp turbine on the front really makes it go.
  11. I fly one for work. I don’t fly it over gross. However, I rarely fill past ~2/3 fuel and no more than 3 passengers and no overnight bags on ~300nm trips. If you want full fuel, it’s only got about 550lbs left for people plus bags.
  12. Nothing wrong with the pp. my mechanic had some fitting issues with it on my F, but it worked fine. It doesn’t do anything the aly can’t do though, and you can probably have the aly fixed up for half the price. Id do that and put the money toward something that provides more return.
  13. I did the plane power during a maintenance wild goose chase. Id recommend doing as @Yetti suggested as long as you can find a workable bracket.
  14. When I bought mine it was pretty messed up too, but it had just been weighed, so they still had the weights and measurements. It was easy for the shop to fix once we showed them the formula that they didn’t follow the first time. Do you have the weight from each wheel and the fuel status when weighed?
  15. You guys are all making me jealous with your beautiful blue skies! This is what Washington looks like right now. We went over to Seattle for some breathable air and to see the Dodgers vs Mariners. Great time, but none of this is “clouds”, it’s smoke.
  16. This is starting to be my go-to power setting. It’s fast, efficient, and all the CHTs are at warm enough, but comfortable cruise temps. LOP, 70%.
  17. Interesting. If that’s the case, when miscompare is annuciated, you might not know which is bad in- g5 or g3x. That makes your av20 even more important!
  18. Besides total weight, if the weight sheet shows the weight of each wheel when the measured it, you can follow the procedure carefully in the mm and get a close estimate of cg. You need tge measurements between axles to get exact but you can get real close.
  19. Is there an additional adhrs in the ap control unit that is also compared against the g5 and gsu25 to help figure out which one is bad in a miscompare?
  20. And if you’re doing push button, are you also doing mag switches? They seem nice but possibly easier to leave on (hot prop!)
  21. The 8 second ride thing is real if the nosewheel isn’t set up correctly. You can also get lots of slop in the steering over time. This made the steering on my F feel “loose” or maybe it “wandered” a bit but it didn’t “dart”. Sloppiness is usually worn bolts/bushings and you can see where with it up on jacks. Lie under the nosewheel and turn it slowly back and forth see where. If it’s really darting, check the link @MikeOH posted. I would do that pronto as people have gone off the runway with that one.
  22. These things are pretty easy to “mis-weigh”. Or simply to mess up the math while doing updates to the WB. It happens all the time. There is a very specific procedure in the maintenance manual on how to weigh it and do the math… it’s a little complicated/confusing and people mess it up. I would look at the original factory WB and compare that to the one after conversion to a Rocket. Obviously it will be different, but try to account for anything significant and see if it looks possible. It might need re weighed.
  23. I have that. On the WB I posted, mgw is 3130. Empty is 2046. I also have Monroys. I bet our airplanes are within a few lbs of each other.
  24. I have a 252, not a rocket, so maybe this isn’t helpful… I wouldn’t expect to load 3 adults, baggage and full fuel in many (most?) 4 seat airplanes. You will start dropping fuel to make the weights work, however, most Mooneys have enough fuel for 5-7 hours (mine has extended tanks, so ~10 hours total if full). It’s generally not a problem to reduce to 4 hours fuel and still have excellent range. As an example, the 6 seat PA-46T Meridian I fly only has ~550lbs of useful load left at full fuel, but half fuel is very functional. So load should be manageable. Balance, well, the Rocket might be a different animal, however most Mooney’s are very flexible as far as how they are loaded. Much more so than say Bonazas. I can definitely fly two adults in front with no baggage. As an example, here’s a weight and balance with 60 gallons of fuel and 4 x 180lb adults. No baggage. It works fine but it’s a 252, so not a Rocket. As mentioned above, over the years the WB can easily get messed up so if it seems off, it might need reweighed.
  25. Thanks that makes sense! I do think it’s 7 years, but it’s only about 400 hours (engine oh 3 years ago). I’ll look at getting it replaced next annual, but I think it’s looking reasonable compared to the EGTs.
