  1. Another benefit is more ground clearance
  2. 12 pounds. Without TKS it would have been 16.
  3. Yes it cranks faster and stops in about 2 seconds.
  4. I agree! I kinda wish they could cover them with something clear
  5. Had a MT prop put on yesterday. I flew to Deland, FL to have them install and balance it. Great guys they started 8:30 had it done by 3. They did have to do some modifications to the TKS slinger ring but other then that it went as planned. Without weights it was .11 and .02 IPS after they were done. Spoiler alert, no cruise speed change. With that out of the way take off acceleration is improved. Climb is better at low speeds but over 110 it is hard to tell a difference. Braking is impressive it goes Mooney to Cherokee with a pull of the throttle. Landing is different, it takes less pressure to keep the nose off the ground. It is incredibly quiet it whistles at taxi speeds, you can have a headset off conversation with people in the back at cruise. It is smoother relatively speaking, you can only make a 4 cylinder Lycoming so smooth but no doubt it is an improvement. After a couple of 3 hour flights the reduced fatigue was noticeable. In my opinion it performs as advertised. How do you rotate pictures?
  6. I have a WX10. Having that is another reason I kept going. It was blank. I fly frequently through the same area so my personal comfort zone is higher than most.
  7. I didn't look at it that way. To counter my complaint I think the traffic is fantastic and even if it didn't have any weather i would still use it for traffic alone. It is simply discouraging that I can fly through a area that is covered in yellow and red yet look out and it is VFR.
  8. I don't remember if I could see stars. If it was above me why wasn't heavy rain coming down on me?
  9. I didn't take it that way . There have been times that it was green on the screen and approach advised me of moderate to severe precipitation and vectored me around it. That happened rather frequently. Then there are times that what is on the screen that matches exactly what I am seeing, approach is advising and other aircraft are talking about and avoiding. Like this one. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N5812T/history/20200723/2215Z/KACK/KMHT
  10. I would have turned around if: I didn't have unlimited VFR visibility ATC advised me of weather that matched what ADSB was showing me Other aircraft were reporting weather. Yet that entire flight might have had minutes of MVFR.
  11. Boston area https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N5812T/history/20200723/0025Z/KACK/KMHT
  12. This is a picture of Fore Flight with a look outside. Fore Flight shows what should be pretty bad weather yet as you can see looking outside it is nice VFR weather. I am disappointed because now when I see red I dont know if it is for real. Fortunately approach is always very helpful avoiding the heavy stuff. According to Fore Flight the ADSB information is 9 minutes old and the depicted weather is about 40 miles it goes well past the outer ring of the bravo airspace in all directions. Even if the weather information was old, given the size I would think have had to go through something. Yet at most it was light rain that you can see through. With all of that said I am looking for advice as to how to use this information. Currently I think it is almost useless.
  13. how much more do you think it would cost after certification?
  14. How much do used originally equipped 2 blade McCauleys sell for? Can you still get that prop new?
  15. How much do used originally equipped 2 blade McCauleys sell for? Can you still get that prop new?
  16. It doesn't need to be corded but it needs to have a brushed motor to make the sparks.
  17. Are there no aluminum safe soaps available?
  18. 40-50 hours oil and filter Philips XC 20W-50 Victory no additives.
  19. That is the easiest way to do it but if fly you leave so much of legit deductions on the table. I can't emphasize enough that you need a solid reason to write it off. How does the IRS know how valuable your time is? The trip use my Mooney for I could accomplish with airlines. MHT to BWI to BOS to ACK. I have no idea how long that would take but I guarantee you that it would take more then the 50-60 minutes the Mooney does it in. In addition Cape Air/Southwest are not sitting there waiting for me when the day is over at different times depending on the work load that day. GA aircraft are the ultimate demonstration for speed and flexibility depending on where your are going and how fast your aircraft is. All that said if I was going from MHT to MCO and could write it off (I can't) I would take Southwest. Mid August I am Flying to Deland, FL to have a MT propeller installed and I won't write it off. One could argue that it a trip made for a business tool but I think that is in the gray area and it is a one time trip. Write it all off IF it is truly used for business.
  20. You simply need to back up why you use your aircraft for business. If you want to take your airplane to a destination that is serviced by airlines doesent matter as long as you make money or there is a true reason that you may make money there. People naturally have negative opinions about the IRS, I personally don't. Play by the rules and even if you get audited it. It will be quick and painless at least that was my experience. I believe the stories that you hear about are the people that have occupations that are can not make money flying around. Landscapers from new England don't make money flying to Naples FL for the weekend yet some people try to write it off.
  21. As it turns out I simply had the cowl flaps rigged flush with the cowl. Made it so there is a half an inch gap when the cowl flaps are closed.
  22. I replaced the original muffler in January because it cracked. I installed a new regular replacement one. Any idea why the dual mag calls for 25 degrees and regular mags call for 20?
  23. They are new, installed in February. I used Gee Bee and they fit like a glove, no rinkles few cuts (like 3) no light makes it through.
