Buster1 Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 I'm contemplating developing a webpage for pilots to use for mission planning. Without giving away many details, what are your thoughts on the utility of this tool? Would you use it or not? I am breaking a lot of info down into an easy to use and see format that would allow you to 'see' different airports, if they have food/restaurants on site, types of fuel, maintenance for your type of plane, and maybe lodging. All that info is out there ( I know, AirNav), but I am streamlining the way you get and see the info into a simple format. The theory being maintenance experts for say Mooney's, that would allow you to filter airports to those that only have Mooney mechanics on site. I also have some 'secret' ideas for making a small business with it, and if it grows, having FBOs get involved too. Ideas appreciated? Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 I don't mean to throw water on the idea, but most of that info is out there already, and free, even if you have to go to 2-3 sites to get the info. The only thing new in your idea is having a database for Mooney experts at a given field, and I'm not sure that would be needed info for somebody planning a routine flight. If stranded on the road, a quick search here or question to one of the email lists will usually get the info. Airnav is great for general research, lodging and fuel prices. www.fly2lunch.com is great for finding food, and is free. (slight disclaimer...it was created by a friend of mine that is also in the USAF!) I use www.fltplan.com for flight planning and filing. I get trip-kits of procedures at www.flightaware.com, as well as making sure my IFR plans are in the ssytem. Between those sites, my needs are met very easily, and most importantly they are free. Just one guy's opinion... Quote
Buster1 Posted December 7, 2009 Author Report Posted December 7, 2009 No that's good to know. I need to know if this idea is already done, or worthy. Part of my thought would be to have verifyable experts on the field for Mooneys with user written critiques on the services...I know AirNav has some of this too. Quote
LuvFlying Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Your description brings to mind www.AdventurePilot.com primaraly. Secondaraly AOPA's flight planner, www.skyvector.com www.NavMonster.com has a decent planner that uses google/ajax information to show airports along a route. Seattle Avionics' FreeFlight got good reviews from Aviation Consumer http://seattleavionics.com/Downloads.aspx Quote
bgpilot1 Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 There are many sites that do an ok job for destinations. Not many that have good listings of mechanics, insurance info and financing. check your pm messages for more ideas. Regards, Barry Quote
