Matthew P Posted November 18 Report Posted November 18 Well, while descending out of altitude today the altimeter started acting up, it wouldn't indicate a descent, then it would drop 500-800 feet, would indicate a normal descent then stick, then drop then work just fine...can anyone recommend a good repair shop....static ports are clear.. Tia I have notice my altimeter being jumpy and also affects the STEC 30 Alt hold, but not 800ft. It disappears when I open the alternate static and is a reminder to drain the water out of the system.
Mark942 Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 Muncie Aviation, Muncie, Indiana. At my biannual Static Cert about 3 years ago, they found that my Altimeter failed the required accuracy. They removed the old one, and installed one they had rebuilt for $1K. It has worked perfectly for 3 years. -mark

Tia There are so many airplanes getting glass cockpit upgrades that you can buy a nice United instruments altimeter with nice bright letters for less than you can get your old one repaired. And you will save a few hundred dollars by getting the newer one installed at the same time as taking the old one out. 1
skykrawler Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 G5 installations require the retention of the standard altimeter. Mine just failed the IFR cert (case leakage) and I chose to buy an overhauled United for $700 rather than have the Kollsman (probably original) overhauled. The choice included not waiting for the round trip shipping plus overhaul time. https://flyaqi.com/home.htm
