Hey guys, I will be heading to Melbourne to an  AirBB in late September. Do the tourist thing and Cape Canaveral.  Any recommended airports or FBO's?

Thanks

David

I'm interested in a good Mooney airport for Cape Canaveral. Got a cruise in a few months

Well Hank, I look at this two ways. First is no one flies into Melbourne, or second, stay the heck away from Melbourne. :) :)

I have flown there several times and have used both MLB and TIX. If I was going to Cape Canaveral, I would fly into TIX.

I've used KTIX back in the days to see the shuttle launch. The FBO there was always super friendly and didn't charge anything even on launch days I I remember it.

I achieved my pilot’s license in ……. at Melbourne. It had FIT on the field and training was in Cherokee 140. At that time in History it was an aviation friendly location. Places change with time so I don’t know how it is now.

I suggest Titusville TIX  if you're going to visit the Space Center or leave the plane for a while to catch a cruise. This is a great GA airport with good prices, decent hotels close by, and an easy Uber/Lyft ride to Kennedy Space Center or the Port Canaveral cruise terminal.

Thanks, @Bartman and @Paul Thomas! I'll check with KTIX and see what their deal is now.

Let's see what info comes in about Melbourne for you, @Mcstealth. Unless you're in a hurry? Weren't flying there this weekend, were you?

I will be the last week in September.  Got a problem though. One more passenger has confirmed. I may now have to go commercial. :( :(

I used TIX and Space Coast Executive Jet.   AWESOME people.    Setup rental car and rolled with changes due to weather.  And had cheapish fuel.

Just for kicks, I got a charter quote. A Pilatus round trip from Kerrville was $22k A jet was $34k. Hehe. Like I said, just for kicks. Hehe.

Tix, is a great airport with a cool museum,  but titsuville has very little in the way of restaurants and hotels. Not sure about rental cars. Rental cars in Florida are a roll of the dice on pricing. Best deals I have found were enterprise just off airport.
if it’s close enough some of them will bring the car to you, almost all of them will drive you back to the airport.

Thanks for the heads up on Titusville. All I'm looking for is easy in and out, good fuel prices and Mooney parking. Then an Uber to Port Canaveral and back.

We will have time to tour the Titusville museum, now that I know it's there. Thanks for the tip!

When I flew into TIX, I arranged a rental car through the FBO.  It was there and waiting.  If we had not arrived on Xmas day afternoon, they would have brought it out to the airplane.
